    PS: Couple of questions?
Congratulations for selecting GS and welcome to this forum.
    1. Surely you can ride with a pillion rider from the very beginning but remember to not over stress the engine. Limit the engine rpm below 4500 in any gear and shift down whenever necessary when you ride uphill.
Advising to avoid pillion rider is as foolish as advising to avoid passengers in a car or bus in its running in period. And none of the manufacturers are suggesting riding alone throughout the break in period. Read on the user’s manual how to ride in the running in period.
    2. You can fit a fog light on the crash guard by cutting the supply to either high or low beam of the headlight. If trying to fit a fog light in addition to the headlight, do not use any bulb of more than 20 watts. Consult an experienced mechanic and ask him to not cut the wires and make the fog light easily detachable when you go to the service center as any addition or modification nullifies the warranty on the bike.
    3. You can use a 55-60 watts bulb as headlight. The output increases slightly but not up to your expectation or need. This does not affect the warranty. The only possibilities are converting the bike to full DC and using a 55-60 watt bulb or replacing the headlight with a round one with more focusing reflector.
Converting to full DC affects the warranty. Replacing the headlight spoils the looks of the bike. So continue with the stock settings until the warranty is over or until you decide it is not needed any more.
    4. If they have given you engine oil and oil filter and have agreed to record the servicing as done at service center, you can change the oil and filter yourself. But it is better to get the first servicing done by the SC itself as retightening some nuts and screws is essential.
An ordinary servicing is nothing more than washing the bike and replacing the oil and oil filter. You can do it yourself after the first servicing and there are easy ways to keep the warranty in force while you do all these works yourself.

    • Guys,

I'm an old member of this forum. I bought a GS150R (first batch) in Feb 09. It was when I got enrolled here and had written a few posts (all almost three years back). I haven't been active since. Ironically, I'm quite new to these kinda forums; yet to get a hang of all the features that are present. Now I realise what I missed all through.

Anyways, my bike has clocked 42,000 kms on the odometer. And there are a few niggling issues. It'd be great if someone could help me out regarding these...
      1. I've been experiencing some kind of jerkiness while accelerating or decelerating, usually between 2000-4000 rpm. And no, it's not the vibration caused by loose screws of the visor. Instead, it's the vibrations of the engine/chassis/gearbox/body. I can feel it. Sometimes the tachometer moves violently (usually in the range of 300-500 rpm readings on the tacho).
      2. I get some kinda jerkiness like the one which happens when it comes to reserve.
      3. I used to get a good mileage of 50-55 kmpl in city. But, ever since I got it serviced from Ibays, Somajiguda, Hyderabad last month, FE dropped drastically to 35-40. When I took my bike to the SC again, the mechanic there said took a trial and said the tuning was not right, and adjusted it. Will have to check it this week. Yet, the jerkiness is evident.

Clean/replace the air filter and carburettor plug. Clean the air vent on the fuel tank and mesh on the fuel line inside the tank. At that time, you can clean the tank too. Tighten and lube the chain.
The slight vibration you mentioned at around 3500 rpm is common in every GS. Nothing special to do with it except tightening the engine mounting and chassis bolts at the correct torque.
If you plan to tune the carburettor, get it done with the aid of gas analyser which reads the CO, HC, CO2, O2 and NOx in the exhaust gas and digital tachometer at the service centre by or under the supervision of an experienced mechanic. It is a time consuming job but never allow the mechanic to turn the AFR screw in the disguise of tuning though the number of “expert tuners” here are increasing geometrically. Hearing their words, the first thing some of us doing even before reaching home with new bike is turning the AFR screw CW or ACW to make their 150 cc a 1500 or more CC one. Beware of those tuners and advisers.

        • Thanks @punarvasu! It seemed okay in today's morning commute. Lemme observe this for one more day and take it to the service centre. By the way, can we do this air vent/fuel line cleaning ourselves? And what are these AFR/CW/ACW screws?

Welcome back and good run up in 3 years , vibes can be reduced to original by checking/changing mounts , also check clutch wear .
Check rubber stews at rear wheel connected with rear sprocket for jerkiness, tune the bike from good mechanic not necessary ASC.

              • Hi Ppl,

I just bought my GS150R a week back and had a couple of queries regarding warming up the engine before riding:
                1. the engine makes sometimes knocking sound while idling the engine during warming up. is it normal??
                2. the idling rpm is set at 1000-1100 without choke.. is it fine??

please suggest with your knowledge and experiences..

                Regards

                  1. the engine makes sometimes knocking sound while idling the engine during warming up. is it normal??
as the idle is set to low it will give knocking sound during warm up (cold start) which is normal

                  2. the idling rpm is set at 1000-1100 without choke.. is it fine??
after 2 or 3 kms drive the rpm should be between 1400 to 1600 rpm then it is fine else contact service center to adjust idle rpm

please suggest with your knowledge and experiences..

                    Hi,
one more query.. I am planning to use my GS150R for my fieldwork which may involve intensive travelling.. but I am unable to decide upon how to accommodate luggage (backpacks) onto pillion seat securely without scratching the body.. does the roping have to be under the whole body or there is any scope for adding extra hitching points??

                    Regards

                    • Hi gang!

Had a low speed crash on the ECR yesterday and my GS almost went into a ditch(i managed to let go of the bike in time). Am absolutely fine(except for a broken ego). GS suffered the following:
1.Scratches on front brake lever, headlamp cowl , RHS bar end weight and RHS crash guard - but this is not too prominent for the causal eye.
2.Scratches on the RHS rear fender - this broke my heart literally !
3.Brake pedal is slightly bent upwards and its uncomfortable.

Going to leave #1 and 2 as it is for now. #3 bothers me and its practically difficult to live with it - Can the bend be removed or should i change the pedal itself ?

                      rds,
                      ashwanth

p.s. - Odo is at 3080 and 2nd service is approaching .. Am getting a mileage(calculated R to R) of 55 for 100% city and once it touched 63 for 60% city and 40% highway.

That bend can easily be removed at a gas welding workshop.

No. That one or any other aftermarket air filter does not increase the power, pickup, speed or fuel efficiency of the bike. Buy an original air filter with that money, clean it in every 1500-2000 kms and replace when it is 12000 kms old.

                            • How to deal with embedded objects in the rear tyre ? (I notice them by chance while parking) . Do any of you here "inspect" the tyres regularly ?
Today I removed a 1/2 inch long nail from the rear tyre.
