Congrats hoodibaba,. I wish it will serve your purpose well..

Samshalu, check the fluid level and topup if necessary & try recharging the battery and see whether it holds the charge for a week.
    Then proceed with the replacement.

I had test driven Unicorn and Suzuki GS 150. I did not have the test ride of NS 200 as firstly the dealers were hesitant to give a test ride on a new bike and secondly due to low positioning of silencer/exhaust and that too being too small, I feel it is not fully fit for being driven in Himalayas as it might hit the boulders in water streams and while crossing slush besides it being a new launch, there was not enough proof of its total reliability as yet. It might need some modifications in near future. I wonder if the small exhaust would be able to expell all the burnt fuel out or will the burnt fuel affect it adversely ?

In my opinion if you are hesitant to cross deep water stream on way to Ladakh, there is no fun of driving NS 200 in Himalayas and this point turned my decision in favour of GS 150.

Although I have nothing adverse to say about Honda Unicorn, but it is too old whereas Suzuki has the same qualities (almost) with digital console, remarkable features and good mileage.

I am sure it will prove its worth the money spent.
Though GS is gem of a bike offered in the market in terms of shear quality , robustness , bomb proof reliability (hondas use bullet proof terminology fro there products)with best mileage in class and beutifull digital consol i would recommend hero impulse for those typical tarrines touring though GS should support rough roads inspite of its weight.
GS is most value for money vehical available in the market and you would love to keep it for long as possible.

As regards Impulse, I could not put my foot properly on the ground while sitting (being 5' 8"). Besides it is too bold to be driven to Office, especially for me being 56+ years old. GS 150 would be much better for long long drives in comparison to Impulse, due to its' being better designed ergonomically.

FE I got till now is 54 kmpl, which is not bad.

the exhaust bangs on speedbreakers if you are with a pillion...that too both me and pillion weighing 55 kilos each and moreover my suspension is 2 step higher than stock with means more ground clearance. Still it bangs heavily... Need to make my suspension even higher but this godddamn bajaj didn't even send a single tool kit for ns to any svc in kolkata... Bloody company... We are paying more than a lakh and not getting a single spare...

In fact I was worried about its performance in Himalayaran region and that too in water streams and am shocked to read that it is causing a big problem in cities as well i.e on speedbreakers.

Thanks Rahulbarik for coming up frankly on this issue.

My friend, please do not recommend buying an Impulse to anybody because the after sales and service backup is the worst for any manufacturer. I have a neighbour waiting for a spare clutch lever and foot rest replacement since 2 months. The company is only happy as long as the sales are good but the after sales backing would get a 0/10 rating in my books. All this in a major city like Bangalore. If you don't believe me, there are quite a few IMPULSE-ive buyers on the forum who will agree.

          Excuse the OT.

          • Hi gang !
Am new here. Got a white GS150R 20 days back and logged 730 km till now. There are a few things I would like to know.

            1. Today while filling petrol, I saw to my horror, 3-4 drops of water entering the tank ! Should I drain the tank immediately or just leave it as it is? The drain hole has been clogged(it rains in chennai now) - Is there a way to unclog it? Anyway the first service is next week.

            2. The exhaust note is very bajaj pulsar-ish. My engine feels harsh/noisy(but its butter smooth in idle/city and during the recent pondhicherry trip) when accelerated quite fast. Should I wait till first 2 services are over - I know new engines can be a little harsh till they properly break-in or am I confusing the exhaust note with harshness? (There are no vibrations on the footpegs except for that famous 3.5-4k resonance band)

            3. There is a "clank" sound(like a relay operating) when the engine is switched off - what is this?

            Thanks,
            Ashwanth.

P.S. This is one gem of a motorcycle !

No need to worry if only few drops have entered.

You mentioned it already and that is the answer for your query too.. If you rev hard, the sound will increase.. But if gradually open the throttle wrt speed, the exhaust note will be same as that of at lower speeds till 90kmph..
              3. There is a "clank" sound(like a relay operating) when the engine is switched off - what is this?
If I remember correctly it is due to the compression valve sound and it is normal only. Nothing to worry about it.

              Thanks,
              Ashwanth.

                Congrats!

The sound is common to most bikes when revved hard. Don't rev it too much since it has to be run in properly. The noise only sounds rough within a full face helmet. If you have a pillion riding with you, they will still be hearing smooth exhaust note. It will smoothen up as the kms go on piling.
                Enjoy and ride safe.

I do not recommend any perticular bike model , just applicability Impulse would have provided . Hero motors should look into the matter being there first independent launch after HH breakout. We have GS which has proven itself since its launch and vertually all are happy owning one.

Do not worry for few drops of water , but take care next time to tilt the bike little over before opening fuel cap if you doubt water logging near tank cap.

Do we have some easy mechanism to disconnect speedo cable as GS has electrical speedo at sprocket , my gs clocks kms in quick succession between services, i can't help as my job involves heavy running 80-90 kms daily. 2000 kms are consumed within 20-22 days , giving bike to service within this short period is difficult every time (my service center is little far away ), though i change engine oil in 1000 kms range and do regular services myself.

Vikshe, our speedo sensor cable is plug and socket type., It's easily removable and repluggable any time..

Just trace the cable from speedo sensor, you'll find that plug very easily..

I'm loving it to play with it to avoid quick services.

This thing I wish from Suzuki :: This bike should be given a minimum of 5k service interval and atleast 50k kms for engine warranty)

OT:: Seems like we were running the bike same as each other..

Would it be out of the system by now(as steam through cylinder > exhaust) or would stay in the carb/petrol tank? Also, I removed the left side battery cover to see If I could locate the water drain hose from the tank's filler lid area - no success. I also noticed a faint "hiss" from one of the breather tubes while at work(engine was off).

Congrats Ashwanth. Where you take the bike from.
Thanks man. Got it from ABT, suzuki. Where do you service yours ?

Don't rev it too much since it has to be run in properly.
I have kept it consciously below 4500 rpm till now(however let the unit hit 5000 rpm many times, for a couple of seconds during the pondy trip - there was a beautiful "Thruuuummm" sound from engine at 5K rpm. <- thats my face at 5000 rpm). Also, my bike's odometer is at dot 800 km at the time of writing this. Might take it for 1st service this monday. After 1st service, planning to take her to 7.5K rpm very gradually in several steps.

Welcome to GS world and congrates ,

Thanks man. Actually am aware of the DC conversion and resonance threads - I used to visit the GS thread long before I even booked it . Planning to fit the rubber washer next week.

When I got the bike it had a simple fault(noticed a week later when I did a night trip) - The brakelight worked fine except when the headlamp/position lamps were on(tail lamp would come on but brake lamp won't). I disconnected and refitted the plug going to the LED unit - the problem was solved. Also, didn't use the bike for a day due to heavy rains here and noticed rust on the disc rotor the very next day - fortunately the rust disappeared after using the disc on my next run.

Why is the disc placed on the left side - design language or is there a reason for this ?

Forgot to write this - On the day of delivery from showroom, the idle rpm was set to 1000-1100. The executive told me to increase it if the engine stalls frequently. Being a newbie to bikes(I had a Eterno from Honda before and was not used to a leg shifter), it was a great fun with stress and adrenaline rush to even drive her to home safely without putting a scratch on her/harming others on the road! The very next day of reaching my office(a good 12 kms) I promptly set the idle rpm back to a tachometer indicated 1400-1500.

                                cheers..
