but my friend, dont rely on the fuel indicator, its a complete waste! it gives you false readings (its common in all digital console bikes). There were times when my bike showed 3 bars (ie., >7 liters) when my bike was in reserve

    hope this helps
Agreed. Dont rely on the fuel bars. The sensor is on the left side of the tank. If you park the bike on the side stan you can immediately see the bars inceeasing.

      Hi,

Thanks Ganesh and Venky for your information on reserve capacity and fuel bars.

This is my first fuel consumption update of my new GS150R.

Got the bike from the showroom at 50 KMs. Dealer filled 1 litre at the time of delivery. I have also filled for Rs 500 (6.5 Litres) at a Shell Petrol outlet. So total fuel is 7.5 Litres.

Today I got reserve at 327 KMs.

So the mileage is 69.25 Kmpl.

The whole 327 kms I have rode bike in city limits (within Chennai) itself (mostly on GST road chennai). I am totally satisfied with these figure. Wish to continue to get these figures for more years.

      Calculation:
      ============
Total Km - Delivered time KMs from the showroom/(total litre - reserve capacity)

      (327-50)/(7.5-3.5) = 69.25 KMPL.

I am totally satisfied with this.

Will update the mileage of reserve to reserve method soon.

      Thanks,
      Ashok

        Replacement of Spares & Consumables

Hi, My bike will be 2 Years in Oct'13. Have already clocked 20K KM. Performance has dropped considerably. Crispy Pickup is no more there. Gets little unstable over 80kmph. It's no more a fun to drive. Mileage is now around 38-40/ltr (I ride on an average speed of around 60-70 kmph with occational 90+).

Parts replaced so far (other than Engine Oil & Brake Oil):
        * Ball Racer (twice)
*Fork Bearings (at around 15K Km)
        *Fork Oil ........ nothing else

Can some one pls suggest which spare replacement are already overdue & due in next 5K km (with tentative cost) so that I may do the necessary changes this Sunday.
I do also have the same query as kasperr...... Need a good (really good) mechanic for our GS - Kolkata.
        Guys pls suggest.

        thanks Shaswata

Is there an option to change the stock Gear shift lever and install a lever which connects to the gear shift rod directly ? (Like in Unicorn)

Has anyone tried this Mod ? I am asking this because the connecting rods seems to be worn out and the play has increased. Also makes noice while shift gears even if oiled daily...

Successfully completed 20500 Kms in 2 Years.

          Service update:

          4 Free services. Thats It.

Oil change - Mostly by self after free services. Once is every 1800 to 2200 Kms. (<300 rs everytime)

Oil Filter change and "O" ring change for Oil filter - 40 Rs (only once) - Cleaning oil filter with Kerosene during each oil change as i dont find time to visit Service centers.

Oil used - Almost every popular Mineral oil. Feels good with Castrol Active 4 T (20W40)

Air filter cleaning with Vaccum Cleaner.

Spark Plug Cleaning with shaving blades. Seems funny but works good

          Chain Lubrication ~400 Kms

Washing the bike almost after every dirty ride. Chennai's ride make us dirty daily.

          Parts Change:

          1) Front Sprocket - 115 Rs - Sprocket was broked around 18000 Kms. Must be becuase of myself over-tightning the chain.

          2) Front Handle bar - 330 Rs - Bike fell off in a road side parking. Bad roads to be blamed.

          3) Clutch Cable - Running on after marktet spare - 140 Rs

          Modifications:

Only changed the Pilot Lamps to Blue. was Looking great. Then to White.
          Now back to stock.

          How much is the mileage:
          Last calculation:
          850 Rs petrol (11.40Litres - 74.5Rs) - 643 Kms - 56.40 Kms / Litre
Driving with full Clutch - 60 % empty roads - 35% city roads and 5% Bumper to Bumper traffic
          Speeds 45 to 70 Kms

Got few days Paternity leave and i was so bored sitting at home that I started writing up a review about GS.

Hope this brings awareness about our GS to people who never knew about it. Should be publishing it shortly.

            Hi all,

has anyone got puncture in their GS's tires ?

in my 8 months owning time, first time my rear tyre got puncture and i had to push it a long way to reach a puncture shop. The guy there told me, due to weight, the tube is non usable and showed me a lengthy hole. this guy changed the tube with someother brand (dont know which one he used, bt he said its of same quality and the price was around 340).

now, two days back, my rear tyre got puncture again (right infront of my room, where some sort of mechanic work was going on. the nail must be from somewhere there) . This time i went to a different shop and he made the tyre ready in 10 mins time. But he checked and told me that its a local tube and better change the tube next time the tyre gets punctured.. He showed me the condition of tube before putting it back in the tyre. It was like normal circle but at one particular area, for some 30 cm length, the width of tube is much more than the rest places. :O :O

If anyone here has changed their tubes , can you suggest a good tube for GS ? or what to check when buying a good quality tube ? and how much a quality tube may cost? ? (i feel that i got fooled by the first guy :@ He put some local tube and put my life into risk :@ :@ ... )

pls . . . pls help on this...

Repairing the bike at the authorized SC is always better as the spare parts including oil and air filter of GS are not available outside.

First of all replace the air cleaner and the sparkplug and let us see how the bike performs then.

As far as I know, GS’s oil filter is not cleanable. Find out a little time to go to the SC and buy more than one oil filter. The ‘O’ ring need not be changed.
The procedure of cleaning air cleaner is described in page 6-14 of the manual.
Align the sprockets correctly as shown in page 6-30 of the manual.

Changed the chain and sprockets at 34,000 kms, today with 14/41 T Rolon. Though the rear sprocket of new GS is 42 teeth, it was not available at the SC.
I was using EP 140 oil and lithium based grease to lube the chain which was never cleaned.
Now I am planning to lube the chain with whatever oil and grease I get. Let us see how long the chain and sprockets lasts.

Getting an original MRF tube for this bike is not a big issue. (Hope you have MRF tyres. )Go to the MRF Showroom alongwith the bike and get a fresh MRF tube for the rear tyre. I did the same. Simple

can we use taller ratio sprockets for GS , my gs is completing 37500 in 18 months of purchase, as smooth as new , but due to pot filled mumbai roads and heavy usage, bike is showing aging , shock absorbers are bouncy now do i have to replace or shock absorbers are repairable. also oil drain bolt is sliping, in gs we have cap with 3 bolts were drain bolt fits , can we replace the cap or go for lath screwing. i still manage to get 55 kms/liter,
No major expense yet except few puntures, clutch cable replaced once , air filter changed twice , spark plug chnged once,

Hi Vikshe. In an earlier post you had suggested to put rubber washees to the exhaust holdiing bolt. Have got the rubber washers but the bolt is not opening with a spanner by manual efort. Does it require mechanised bits or is something really jammed.

Eager to get that resonance sorted out

There are shock absorber re-conditioners or rebuilders but I don’t think it is worth the money you spend for it. Better replace the shocks which cost about Rs. 1,200/- per piece.
Taller gears are for speed and, perhaps, slightly better mileage. Our final drive ratio is 14:41 i.e. 2.929. Try to find out a suitable 15T front sprocket which gives about 7% increase in speed and the same decrease in torque.
The oil strainer screen can be replaced. In future, tighten that bolt with moderate force, check for oil leakage after parking the bike for few hours and retighten only if needed.
Clean the air filter in every 1500 or so kms and replace in every 8,000 - 10,000 kms. I am using NGK CR7HIX iridium spark plug which costs Rs. 575/- plus delivery charges now. It lasts longer and gap adjusting is not necessary but provides no increase in mileage or power. If interested, contact N1 Racing Equipment, 62, Dadar Silver Beach, Off Cadell Road, Jhambekar Marg, Dadar west, Mumbai 400028 or mail to n1engineering.com.

Apply some WD-40, wait a few minutes and try again. If it still cannot be loosened, approach a mechanic.
