Hope you all are doing great. I am GS-150 R owner from Dec-12, and its has completed, 5500 Km. Its rainy time, so I thought to re-lube chain and sprocket of my baby.

So opened its chain both chain cover. I found that chain is very dry with debris of burned greases and engine oils which are applied by SVC guys. Another bad impact I found that upper chain cover is completely/badly rusted from inside. Below chain cover is also rusted from inside but little bit. I cleaned chain with tooth brush and chain clean spray.

Friends please suggest me should I say to SVC to change the chain covers as these are rusted from inside and my baby is just 6 month old. Or these chain covers are not covered under warranty. Next week I am going for 4th service of my baby.

Cheers!
Kishore

Mine is also from Dec 2012. So if you are giving your bike for services regularly on schedule without fail, it must be time for 4th service now. If 4th service yet to be done, make sure you tell them to check the chain lubrication/condition.

In this same forum , i have read somewhere that its better to lube the chain every 700 -800kms... better tell the service guys itself about rusting issue..

Yesterday, I gave my bike for 4th service @ Apple Auos , BTM Layout. Completed only 4600 KMs in 6 months time..
Mine completed 4 Years on June 30. Clocked 90,000 KMS. GS 150 has supreme reliability. Daily drives an average of 70 KMS in Bangalore Crazy Traffic. Gives 45 KMPL.
Looking for a replacement by this year end. Very hard to replace my trusty GS 150.

Hi all,

I had good experience with my GS for almost an year now. It was worth a ride, enjoyable, smooth and lovely. I rode hard (safe ride only) and butter smooth (50-60kmph) , well complimented by my GS.

For almost a month now, my bike has developed hard gear shift problems, and also audible/rattling noise of the chain while riding. I tried to adjust the chain slackness but it did not help much. So have given the vehicle for service with Apple Autos @ BTM Layout, Bangalore for service. Sad since 9 a.m. because I dont have my bike with me.

Will update after I get my GS back.

Yes, Nikhil you are right. Today I gave my bike for 4th service, I also told them about the rust in chain cover, but they replied nothing. I told them use chain lube in chains but no response from them and they applied just burned engine oils.

Bike is still ultra smooth and there is no problem with the bike. Hope this will remains for long time as many GS family members.

Cheers!

Got my bike back. As usual, the service personnel did just a bike clean up and engine oil change, which has been the case as always.

They never seem to understand the real problem I mentioned. I mentioned them that after I tightened the chain (as mentioned in the user manual), the gear changes got rough and I hear chain/rattling noise over the noise of the engine. Even after the service, no changes, the problem persisted. On the ride back home, I was frustrated, so I repeated the steps mentioned in the manual again, and now the chain/rattling noise seem to be gone. Whew.

On my very first service (during the run-in), the service guys disconnected the right indicator.

Suzuki bike - good. Service center - bad. Service quality - Ugly.

One more thing, I did not see any GS150 in the show room anymore....something cooking up?

Headlight Upgrade from Halogen to Projector LED

After hunting for a long time for a brighter replacement for my GS150R's 35W halogen, I found a couple of good LED projector lamps. After two months of sporadic work to solder the control boards, deciding the wiring paths and component placements, here's a mod that gives more than what it takes.

Each lamp is a 10W LED projector lamp that I sourced from eBay. Trust me when I searched for a single 35W LED lamp, but I couldn't find one that was small enough and had the necessary voltage range to be used with minimum control circuitry. So, I settled for these. I tapped the output from the Voltage Regulator cum Rectifier and ran it through the control board hidden under the seat. There are adequate fuses provided to open up the lines in case of a short circuit. Resistors (the green sticks that you should be able to spot in the wiring pic) ensure that the LEDs run within their current limits.

I epoxied three 1W red LEDs in the low beam lamps to get the "Demon Eye" effect. Also replaced the pilot lights with LED ones and wired them to the battery. I took advantage of the fact that the horns constantly get positive supply once the ignition is turned ON. Thanks to the wiring scheme I could find on xBhp Now, my night riding is much safer and sometimes a head turner too!

Longer wires create some mess, but need them for future re-wiring and ease of removal. But I managed to find enough space to accommodate all the parts. All wires are sleeved and quick-disconnect connectors and screw terminals are used for easier maintenance:

Hi Kishore,
Please explicitly ask them to change the chain cover. Unless you ask they wouldn't do. They may say it is normal but just ask them to open the chain cover of any random bike to ensure that it is common.

My GS will be 2 years old this August and has clocked only 18400 Kms till date. Mileage & comfort levels are excellent. Cleaned the chain and sprockets today and found that the front Sprocket is broken(not worn out). 7 out of 14 tooth in the Sprocket is broken into half. . Chain and the rear Sprocket looks like new. Initially the service center refused only to give the front Sprocket. They are requesting to change the chain along with the back sprocket. But after insisting, they provided it. Cost 120. The svc guy told it is normal that sprockets worn out at 18K Kms which I totally disagree. Is over-tightening of the chain, a reason for breakage of the Sprocket tooth ?

It will be an interesting marketplace.

with respect to another GS, the quality has dipped. If you have been riding the 1st or 2nd gen GS, you may not relish the newer ones. There seems to be a lot of niggling problems which were not present in the 1st gen.
venky, yes i have ridden he new GS since was thinking about buying another to add to my stable, but my service mechanic himself told that while the new GS is still good but they have fiddled with the engine a bit. The exhaust note has changed, and i found the engine to be bit on the harsher side.

Well i have indeed now competed 61,500 kms went to Agra recently, no hiccups but i can feel that baby is sounding weak. Engine is still strong but has become harsher overall and the refinement has been lost.

Yes the next lineup is indeed for a 250, Karizma leading the race because of the comfort it provides in it and i am surprised myself that 200NS is also in the list especially due to the 6th speed in it and offcourse due to the overall tech (pulsar and my heart have never striked similar chords)

CBR250-Out of reach
CBR150- Not paying that much for something at 1.3lacs, doesn't even have a kill switch!!(But really packs a punch, but i believe a bit overpriced)
CB Trigger-???(looks ok, but have to look it up in person. Plus really want to jump to the 200cc+ bandwagon :P)

But one thing for sure, being my 1st bike GS has upped the ante a lot when it comes to buying my new lady love.

Hi,

You see the reflector of GS is pretty bad in terms of the throw, even if you plonk a 55w H4 still you wont see a significant difference and that combined with AC supply to headlight isn't worth it.
However if you still wish to goahead then you can try sourcing a Osram Silverstar/Nightbreaker or a philips crystal vision and replace the pilot lights with LEDs.

Bang on. The engine sounds very harsh and rattles on quick throttle but I beleive the noise settles down on usage. The new bike used to make a harsh engine noise. Now @2600 kms its settling down and with another oil change due @ 3000 kms (end of July) with the 3rd service, I hope it would be much sweeter.

The overall build quality has come down. The 3rd gen GS wobbles badly between 50 - 70 and shakes violently at lower speeds. I had escalated this as a major complaint with Suzuki but no resolve yet. Brushed off as a standard thing with the bike. They showed all new models of GS wobbles. I have tried 2 or 3 different bikes at the showroom myself. There is a lot of break binding and the front disc squals occasionally.

For someone who has been riding the 1st Gen model for 2 years, this one may not excite you. Hope you soon find love with another beauty.

Completed 90,000 KMS in 48 Months. Supreme Reliability. Sad to see that Suzuki has not launched any other bike except shitty bikes like Hayte and Sling Shot. Whenever, I go to service Bikes, I find more of Access. Very rare to find GS 150. Looking for a upgrade by next year. Either Pulsar 200 NS or Apache 180 ABS. But I will not sell my GS 150. I asked the Service Manager that if any special servicing for Engine is required after I complete 1,00,000 KMS. Manager said not required. Regular servicing will do. I have to see whether the ODO is six digit or it will roll over. I plan to change rear tyre @ 1,00,000 KmS. This will be the third tyre. The first tyre lasted 50,000 KMS.
