• Re: Suzuki GS150R

Hey everyone, can anyone help me with a prob.
My gs is almost a year old, its 2012 model black. have rode it for 62** kms and have completed 5 services. I ride between 40 and 50km..mostly
from last week onwards i have noticed a sharp decline in my mileage. I am now getting a great 46km for 1.41 litres of petrol . also there is a tik tik sound from my engine and the silencer. i know the sound is normal for any bike but is it normal if i am getting that sound after travelling a single km and that too in speeds from 40-50?
i used to get 80 km for 1.5 litres (approximately 50+ kmpl) but now its getting worse and worse each tym i fill her up with petrol.

ps. i have never forced ma beauty to go beyond. i have never used pwr mode. my top speed is 85 and that too only once! i ride very much like my grand father, never have done anything rash!

That sound you mentioned is normal. So ignore it.

Reserve to reserve or full tank to reserve methods never give accurate result. So, check the mileage with a premeasured quantity of at least 300 ml of fuel in the jar used to check mileage, connecting it to dry carburetor. This jar is available at the SC. Ride through your usual route in your usual riding style. Ensure that the brakes are not jammed and fuel is not leaking.

one thing is sure, before he increases his bike's mileage, the petrol price will get increased again

Apart from smoothness, I always felt my GS's engine is noiser than the Honda's. Recently a pillon rider (who has a Shine)
commented that my GS engine is "very silent too."

Nice red locomotive. Have you already taken delivery or going to ask for a 2013 model? Dealers clear old stock first, I
see no issues provided it was not used as a demo or improperly stored. What was the ODO reading? A good thing is
warranty starts from the date of sale.

Sir, my GS never made the tik tik sound (after switching off) from day 1 - is that present in all GS? I calculate the
mileage using reserve-to-reserve method. It worked fairly well on my Eterno (which lacked a fuel gauge) and the scooter
came to reserve within 5 kms of the next-predicted-reserve ! So does this method usually tend to overestimate or
underestimate the mileage ?

its present in all GS if your GS doesn't makes tik tik sound the catalyst converter might be faulty, take it to ASC and make it done [of course their are some half-baked professionals are there too so be careful and ensure issue get fixed ]

what ever the way you calculate mileage, make sure the result gives smile on your face, because a happy man will keep his machine happier and healthier

ok, thank you. i am using reserve to reserve method (always). last time i filled petrol for rs 100 (1.41 liter) it gave me 56 km. now the same amount of fuel gave me just 46 after which the bike became choked and stopped. There is no fuel leak, that i checked. my bike used to give me 50+ till last month.

Hi Ganesh. What I have noticed in the past with my Tvs is that he mileage drops generally if the bike is due for a service or oil change, this is the machines way of communicating to you.

punarvasu, many thanks for taking your time out and giving me a detailed reply. I have been traveling since a past few days and did not follow up with the SC folks regarding the spares.

I don't know why but I'm very very lazy in doing this stuff myself. I admit, in technical matters like these, I'm a newbie. I'm somehow not as eager and forthcoming in getting my hands dirty in matters related the automobiles as I'm with computers and software. Moreover, I don't get the time and working space to dissect these sections of my bike at home. However, I can say for sure that I started doing smaller repairs/maintenance (like airfilter cleaning, clutch adjustment, engine oil replacement) myself. May be, it'll take some more time and confidence till I can handle bigger ones.

But yes, your inputs are greatly appreciated. They even go a long way in making me take an informed decision.

ODO reading is 1km. That is why I am looking forward to take the delivery of the red machine.

Got the FRONT MASTER CYL ASSY replaced. And associated with this, had to replace the brake fluid too.

Costed some 1200+ rupees for spares and 200+ rupees for labor and consumables.

And yes, the front brake is very sharp now!

Hey guys I am a new member to our not so big family..

The bike had absolutely no problems in the 1st month.
then came the day of servicing and I had done only 292 km on odo.still I gave it for servicing at Swargate suzuki(pune).
A little while latter I got a call informing the servicing was done. When I reached the station and was driving my bike out I realized that on applying the brakes they were so loud that it can bring the horns to shame..so I again went inside to inform them.so one the guys opened the rear brake and informed me the brake liner have worn out(like seriously just 292km) though they got it replaced under warranty he said to me that I was braking too much(please man....We are driving in Indian on pune roads in traffic in monsoon we HAVE to brake).
The problem is still persistent and when ever I inform them they just take the bike inside do something to resolve it but within another 15 km it reappers. And they are blaming it on the rains. Please suggest me a solution....

It is due to brake dust between brake shoes and drum or rust formed on the drum due to moisture. It disappears after a few braking. It is normal.

While braking, 80% or more of the bike’s and the rider’s weight is transferred to front wheel and hard rear braking results wheel locking and skidding. So, learn to use front brake and make using it a habit.

Use a sandpaper and sand the lining of the drum as well as the surface of the brake pads. The noise occurs when both become very smooth and friction is not enough. This will work.
