is it by any means a prob if we increase the clutch play...? i loosened my clutch play by adjusting the clutch lever at the engine top. Now the bike moves only if i release the clutch fully (almost). but the end result is that i am getting feather touch gear shifts. Which is a huge relif for me.
does this increase in clutch play affect my bike in a negative way...? what about the mileage...will it drop...?

Hi,
how much of throttle play is required in the bike. I am used to no play for the past 7-8 years that I have been riding a bike and used to very minimal throttle only.
In Suzuki, the SVC guys are insisting on having a huge play. They claim that reducing the play hampers the pick-up. I do not understand the logic here. could someone help me please.
I have adjusted the play myself to ensure that there is no play and this is how I am comfortable with the bike.

It would be really nice if someone can suggest the pros and cons of NOT HAVING throttle play,

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

The bike and this colour in particular is very photogenic.
Congrats mate.... and happy motoring.

Over tightening means the gear is partially engaged i.e. half clutch riding. The engine rpm rises but not the speed. This results fuel loss and clutch plates wearing.

If that nut is loosened too much the clutch does not disengage fully and gear shifting becomes difficult.

If the present condition is comfortable and the bike moves at 55 kmh at 4000 or 60 at 4500 or 70 at 5000 rpm, the adjustment is correct.

As per the manual the correct play of the clutch lever at end is 10-15 mm.

As per the user’s manual there should be a play of 2-4 mm. This play is to ensure that the bike does not accelerate quickly and the throttle is fully closed when released.

I too cannot understand what that genius mechanic means. If the excess play provides quick pick up, the low torque problem of some bikes is easily solved!

Thank you punarvasu. that was really helpful. my bike doesnt feel any different. The only difference is that gear shifts are much better and my bike is almost like a full clutch bike (you have to release 90% of the clutch for the bike to start moving). Anyway will cleck that the bike is having the right speed in the right rpm as you mentioned. Thanks a bunch for your help sir.

Last night got a taste of what the panther is capable of, while returning from Prasadz IMAX at 1am after watching Pacific Rim (must watch Sci-Fi movie) roads neat and empty drove at 60kph on sixth gear.

BTW, i also felt that the head-lamps low-beam was weak but after lowering the beam just a bit down, and i found that it was adequate for night riding even under streetlights. I also felt that the High-beam to be very very powerful and i am very satisfied with it.

It’s been 3 days since the bike has come home. So far have covered 65km... Today is Sunday would like to reach first 100 mark

Hi Guys,

Sorry for joining late in the club :-) Bought the beast (as I would say) on January 1, 2013. understand that it is very late to join, but better late than never. Did almost 6000 kms in 7 months. Only word I have is AWESOME! I am extremely happy that I chose this bike over Pulsar and FZ.

For 1000 kms, I ran below 4500 RPM and went on a long trip from Erode, TN to Vaalpaarai and came back via Coimbatore to Erode. I never expected a return mileage of 60 Km/lit.

After that, from home town I took to chennai. That time I was riding under Power mode and with a pillion raider around 85-95 kmph. The returned mileage was 43-45 km/ lit.

Currently the beast is in Chennai.

I kind of feel awkward as I see only people more than 40 age group were driving GS150. Yet to found a youth in Chennai ;-) But this is the bike one has to opt for if looking for comfortness, power, decent mileage and great engine performance.

I tried even running at 125kmph and there is no shiver in the handling and it feels like riding at 60. May be pickup was not as good as Apache, but very responsive and I am more than happy with it. It goes to 70-80 km on 3rd gear when pulled. But I rarely do that.

Riding in ECR, Chennai at 60 kmph in 6th gear was simply mesmerizing. I can barely hear the engine sound. Here are some of the photos for you.

Have a few queries!

1. I have been servicing in ABT Suzuki, Nandanam which is very poor. Did only 3 services and skipped the fourth. Currently staying in Vadaplani. Is there any Good workshops around? 5-10 kms within would be great.

2. Seating has been a problem during summer. I have put seat cover with cushion. It's rexin. But still, in 15-20 mins drive, it gets uncomfortable. Any Suggestions?

And Congratulations for all those guys who bought this You all must be happy ;-)

Also, I am fond of long drive as groups. If anyone plans, let me know guys

Its never too late. I wrote an ownership entry of my earlier bike after I sold it GS 150 is a good bike and quite a lot of us using the bike are youngsters too. The fact is that its a sensible bike appealing to men and certainly not a boy's fantasy.

Welcome to the club and happy motoring.

Couldn't agree more.

1 completed 18 months of hasslefree ownership and the only complaint i have is the quality of paint on the rear side panels. It wears off too soon. The ones on my bike turned paintless after 8 months of usage, which is just placing my bag. Other than that, riding the bike has been a joy and my 58 km ride to work is one of the good parts of the day for me.
