If the bike engine is not tuned optimally and is pushing more fuel and dumping unburnt fuel in the exhaust then certainly catconverter will start to clog, the catalytic converter cleaner chemicals work in two ways one is pour all the contents in the fuel tank full of petrol and ride the bike till the tank runs dry.
The other shorter method is to mix the cleaner directly into the carburetor, this method is relatively faster and gives very good results.
And far as the cost of the exhuast is concerned i will say that 4500/- exhaust is pretty cheap, just for comparison yamaha rx135 exhaust with cat converter cost 12000/-rs.

    1. new xtreme (2014) - reviews and updates not much not seen on roads too
    2. Suzuki GS - lot of lovers for this bike (but few queries as below)
    3. Honda Trigger - Honda people are too rude and not worth the money spent
    4. Pulser 180

But the below problems are stopping me buying the GS:
    1. I have seen some GS, the color fades so fast. Especially I have seen the Grey colored ones. They look ugly after the fade.
    2. No DC. My ride involves night travel, so I am worried about the lighting of this bike
    3. No tubeless. I feel tubeless is a must these days to avoid flat tyres as much as possible.

Trigger is out. 1, 2 and 4 remains in my mind and somehow after reading the reviews my brain says to go with the GS.

Kindly let me know the good bike.

What is your heart saying, as you have yourself said that GS has some problems or some niggles like the fading of paint, plus there is the fact that suzuki haven't got too much service centres, no tubeless tyres, no DC electricals again, both of these features are necessary for you, now the last option remains of pulsar, no tubeless tyres but can be fitted, but the bike is equipped with DC lighting, mileage you will easily get 45km/l in a pulsar, ride quality is good, you won't feel any discomfort on the bike, cheap spares, roadside mechanics are fully aware of the bike, plus lots of service centres.

I see you're back into similar dilemma which you had few/several months back:

I urge you to create a new thread/post in What Bike? section to get experienced bikers' responses.

Not sure about these methods; I'll dig more. Let's see what pops up.

Oops!!! it seems I shot myself in the leg. Price-list we've is as of July-2012 & I overlooked muffler price somehow:

Rightmost is the MRP, I presume GS's was priced @10,000/- 2 years back.

Hi, Thanks friend. But does the color fade of GS after sometime or is it the same with majority of the bikes?

Not necessarily, quite possible that the earlier version of th GS might have got some paint problems, but after so many years they must have rectified the problem, but there is a second face of the coin also current bikes or cars are manufactures with very light gauge sheet metal plus the paint quality is no where good as it was some 15 years back, so you have to bear with it.

            Hi friends,
Sorry to interupt, I am Sivakumar S from Chennai, I bought GS150R on 2009 march, enjoyed with it for three years. I sold it to my friend on 2012 as I got job in Bangalore ( I sold it because I didnt find time for changing the registeration). Now I am going to buy a bike (my first priority is GS150R). I would like to ask few questions to the proud owners of this bike.
            1. I had 2009 GS, I checked in showroom about the new GS (which has different looks). What are the changes that are made in the current generation bike when compared to 2009 batch

I mean apart from the graphics and looks i.e., engine power, torque, gear-ratios, wheel-base, weight etc (I hope these things are not tweaked)

            2. Is new models are giving better mileage or not.

            3. I read from internet that the gear ratios are changed and number of sprocket teeth are changed. Is it true.

            4. Any new bug(s) is there in new model apart from poor head light and 3.5k rpm resonance.

I am asking this silly questions, because I like the old GS for its weight, mileage and refinement. I want to make sure that all that characteristics are retained in new model.

I am staying near whitefield (bangalore) which showroom is good to buy. In Aryan suzuki (near vathur kodi) they are charging 2% extra for using credit/debit cards. (Bangalore friends! please guide me in buying this bike)

Earlier batches of GS 150 had this issue with petrol tank rusting. It was rectified in 2011 batches. Tubeless tyres can be fitted. After purchasing the bike, go to a tyre shop and swap your tyres for a small amount. The only thing is DC which can be converted post the warranty period. The Headlight is powerful. The bike is also reliable.

                incorrect A/F ratio.

                air leak in inlet manifold.

Your bike is not a high performance motorcycle and so is the exhaust, just place your hand near the exhaust where it attaches to the cylinder and twist the throttle, you will instantly know if your exhaust is leaking, and don't give up till the problem is solved.

Hi Kusumaker, I think valve timing is good and Spark Plug is only 15days old. I will check for these 3 very soon. Also I tried checking for air leaks and accidentally burnt my hand from the exhaust heat. Nothing serious and all. I will give it another shot today evening.

                +1
It's claimed Catalytic-Convertor is pretty much useless after couple of years of operation as it will be buried in soot. Any solution for this?
Hi Spar, I wasn't able to upload photos yesterday. I am not sure what PAIR[SAI] System is but I will google and add it on the checklist.

Also if possible, can someone post a picture of the exhaust where it connects to the cylinder? I am asking this because I see a slight gap in the manifold and I am not sure if that is the way it has to be.

Diaphragm was replaced on monday. Carb was cleaned as well. But still, my bike backfires on deceleration at higher RPMs. I will start with the exhaust today.

Apart from that the present GS differs from the first batch with: slightly altered 1st and 2nd gear ratios, removal of front fork rubber boots, simple non-adjustable gear shift linkage, replacement of U-clamp type washer in rear axle nut with a simple washer, change in design of clutch actuating arm near the engine, new headlamp cowl, exhaust heat shield, new exhaust note.

As you can see the many changes are insignificant to an end user. All the major goodies like Teflon coated petrol tank and engine balancer are always in!

Everyone who's spot on their profit margin will charge you extra for debit/credit cards. Card/Reader companies charge the retailer/dealer for handling the RT money transaction.
Check if they accept checks/DD or stack the money & pay in cash.

You can wait a little longer (few more months) till Suzuki comes out with SEP enabled GS150R.

Recently replaced exhaust-gasket & those Hex-Bolts; didn't take any photos, sorry. Replacing the gasket & bolts was a tedious business.

I'm not sure what gap you're referring to here, coz exhaust-gasket had a snug fit in my case.

I too ride around 70km/day and I really love the GS's suspension. Minimal tiredness on riding it.
                        I haven't ridden P180, so I can't comment on it.
I had a pillion ride on my friend's Xtreme (2014) and was not very comfortable with the suspension. But I guess rider doesn't feel uncomfortable. Still, it is a worthy contender thanks to the new looks and trustworthy engine that has been serving Xtremes and Hunks for many years.

                        Coming to your concerns,
                        1. Yes, my 4 month old Black GS has started to lose it shine(fuel tank, side and rear panels), despite being under covered parking always.
                        2. Light intensity could have been better and DC lighting could have been there, but it is not a deal breaker.
                        3. I am not sure if tubeless can be fitted to GS.

If you need a bike that delivers a good mileage with adequate power and very comfortable to ride in, then GS would fit the bill perfectly.
If you can slightly compromise on ride comfort (compared to GS) and need some extra goodies and gizmos and style, then Xtreme would be a good choice.
If you can wait for a month or so, you can check out Suzuki's Gixxer.

Xtreme is still a new bike and as more bikes will come to the road more reviews will follow, you should not be in dilemma as the engine is same, only thing that has changed is the appearance just take a TD of both vehicles and then decide which one suits you better.

                              • Bought a new link-rod & cotters(latch-pins) & tried on my GS150R.
                              • Bought some cowling screws & nuts. Silencer heat guard hex-screw was 20/- each !!!

Can anyone who own first batch GS150R post some pictures of that link-rod without those rubber boots?

                              • they were checking parts-manual for identifying the part-numbers of components I was inquiring about.

PSS: I was also in touch with Saptagiri-Suzuki via e-mail. They quoted me 400/- for that link-rod. I'm assuming they meant the whole set as it's not compatible with new batches.
