A note to Chennai GS150R owners: I had hard gear shift problem and reported it many times to SVC (JAV Adyar). They didn't fix it. The moment my warranty was over they told me the issue is with the clutch plate assembly. I was furious by this observation and spoke to the manager there. But he was also not in a helping mood. I then went to ABT Suzuki and changed the complete set. I was also allowed to stay inside the service area and I was very happy and satisfied to see all the work done with my consent and in front of me. Now the hard gear shift issue had gone and engine feels very smooth. I also replaced the fuel knob and now it works perfectly.

I wanted to upgrade my rear Tyre with 120/80 configuration. I would be using mainly in city traffic condition with only 10% highway usage. My current set doesn't inspire confidence with a pillion rid. Please suggest a good brand and make. Thanks
Scary after sales support, I guess. Many forums I have come across such issues.

Absolutely. If it bothers you, it just lost it's 'petty' status!
As an e.g. The lack of 'perfect' smoothness in the gearbox and that 'occasional' false-neutral are very bothersome to me, even though petty for most others. I am told things will improve in a couple of servicings.
Coming back to your problem, i would go to the Service center and ask them to give every single point a thorough check (from Sparkot's list, along with the suspension checks). Don't hold yourself back from escalating this to Gurgaon, if they show a 'chalta hai' attitude. If it's just about stiff-routed cables, all good. Though if there is something more sinister to it that will only aggravate with time.

        Hi GSpian,

After 2100km ODO I had taken my GS on small tour for 4 dayswith total distance covering 700km (Pune -Trimbakeshwar –Pune via Mumbai)Experience was pretty awesome and surely happy with my decision over buying thismachine. I would like to share few things I personally notice while on long ride…

Very stable @ high speed , even above 85kmph no visible vibrations (not yet touched 90+ ..will try it after 3rd service)
Didn’t notice any strain on engine even after 3-4 hours of consistent riding
Rode with pillion & heavy luggage but pulling power is damn cool at any speed (feel of XTP)
No notable flaws in riding quality except the high turning radius & hence needsto be very prompt on steep detour.(in Ghats specially)
Engine become very smooth & silence after 5500rpm.Fall in love with gearbox & getting better.
A weird sound (can’t describe it) at 3k-3.5k rpm which I personally don’t like.
Rear suspensions gives more comfort on potholes-bumpy roads for pillion but front suspension is little hesitating and jerks on mini-speed-breakertrack which in turn vibrates the speedometer.
Breaking system of GS could have been much effective. Front disc does its job well but felt like rear brake is too weak &rear wheel may skid after sudden/hard braking.
Covered the total distance of 700km+ within 1200 Rs petrol (approx. 14.5 L) and still found enough petrol left in tank means got 55+ mileage roughly which is best in my opinion for 150cc engine in power mode . (2nd service not yet done).
Top end speed is good & this bike has potential to challenge most reputed 150cc bikes in India on highways. (….sorry I don’t mean to exaggerate here.)

For pillion rider comfort I experiment a homemade detachable back rest with hard cushion on it and feedback is good .Similar backrest I am planning for driver seat too (I will post its pic later). Depending upon the cost incur am planning to change the entire seat with different design , hard foam cushion material and soft coverings that could minimize butt pain on long rides. GS chassis and side panels may not be suitable broader seat but will try to find way out of it.

Kindly pour in some ideas if anyone has experimented on GS seat design & material. All the time you cannot afford an anti-monkey-butt powder or gel pad and practically it’s noteasily available.

GS has one of the most comfortableseating positions among 150cc bikes I believe and needs a bit innovation to make it ultra-comfortable.

Good to see one more happy customer.
Could you please describe more about the weird sound you hear between 3-3.5K RPM?

Only you need to put the flange O-ring. Apply very mild amount of grease on O-ring.

I did apply some grease on to that O-Ring, however the groove has protruding notches to hold the O-Ring in place.

God, I missed grease while replacing Oil-Filter-Cap O-Ring of my dad's Access125. I had hard time bolting that filter-cap with O-Ring popping out of the groove.

It's John's personal opinion for Sankalp's GS150R. I'll try to avoid pouring non-JASO certified oils into my GS150R until I've no options.

              We've Motul 3000 20w40 JASO-MA2 Mineral-Engine-Oil available at affordable price.

Off topic from the current discussion

The suzuki guys as I said earlier is saying their load will further delay. They earlier said the new load will come on 14.07.2014. So I just booked the bike by paying 1000 INR.
Later to that they called and said there will be some delay in the arrival of the new load. They said 2013 GS is ready and I can buy it.
It is justt irritating for me. They somehow want that 2013 bike to sell to me.
I said I can wait for a month also but I dont want that bike. That said OK to it. I'm disappointed dealing with these guys.

Then I called my native in Kerala and they said they have a black bike ready...But my native is far 200 kms from the place where I stay. So If I take the delivery of GS there and ride it on the FIRST day itself to my place will it affect the bike since the bike is new is it Ok to ride so much distance on the 1st day itself?

                Kindly confirm.

@ssivakumar.r Please share with us how you managed to get bike during unloading itself. Perhaps there is some trick to highlight here.

Old Stock : leave it to Suzuki to sort it out; I wouldn't pay for old stock when new ones are available unless there is a remarkable bargain.

How will you be handling Registration? You'll have to return to native for registration if it isn't registered already.
Nevertheless, long-rides are best for initial break in (1600 kms). Journey gives you ample distance to vary speed/RPM across gears within break-in-limits.

It is always better to avail free-services @SVC where motorcycle/scooter was bought, unless Suzuki reimburses Free-Service-Coupons to SVCs internally; which I'm not aware.

However, I wouldn't advise riding 200kms on first day without testing for few kms. You may want to putter around your native for first 50 kms for any signs of issues that may have slipped through Quality-Control team.

Castrol POWER 1 4T 15W-40 engine oil fulfills requirements of API SL and JASO MA2 standards. And it even smells like perfume. or soap at least.

@vishnukmd/ @punarvasu might have crossed 1.5L kms (Fiero/GS150R combined) by now on Castrol Power 1 4T 15W-40. But that still doesn't answers why Shell/Castrol don't even bother to certify their oils; Castrol has certified 4t oils abroad(esp UK).

When Servo/BP/HP/Gulf/Vavoline-ind/Ipol/Veedol/Balmerol/Mak can get JASO certification, why not Shell/Castrol. Castrol Power 1 4T 15W-40 may be a fantastic product but I can only rely on 3rd parties like JASO to back up the quality-claim. I cannot stress more on how faulty our senses can be [experiment: Fashion experts came up with different opinions when same stocking was presented under different name].

PS: Bajaj owners call JASO certified 10000 DTSi oil as crap & admire Motul 3000 20w50.

PSS: I'm not saying don't use Castrol Power 1 4T 15W-40; but give extra credit to those who go an extra mile to keep customers satisfied.

PSSS: Perfume & Soap odour - 1800 kms old Shell-AX7 had that ripe odour too . Let me try to locate some VOA/UOA of shell motorcycle oils. Sorry, I couldn't find any.

xBHP is screwed as of now...

It’s very tough to describe coz the sound changes as we shift to higher gear at this RPM. Sound is very similar to the ordinary rotor engine / Cutter sound. At 3rd gear sound is very prominent and subsides gradually at 4th, 5th & 6th gear on same rpm. I always ride in a city between 3k to 4k rpm and this troubles.

I hope after 2nd service changing a good oil will reduce sound & hence planned for Synthetic motul.

During 2nd service planning for the Synthetic Motul oil 15w40 or 20w50. Suggest if it is good time for synthetic.
