    My front fork seems to be hard and most of the road irregularities are felt on the handle bar. The fork oil is not canged for last two years, Any body had similar experiances?.

      Similar case, stock fork oil is almost(2y10m) three years old since the purchase. Bumps are felt during the beginning of day(journey), they ease off consequently however not smooth as it was a year back. I'm looking forward to change it in due course of weeks, not sure whether to go with stock(SVC) product or other makers out in market.

      Does anyone know stock fork oil specs? And recommended fork oil specs for GS150R?


      Brake fluid has turned transparent as opposed to original pinkish(remember KMnO4 titration) . I had doubts several times as I couldn't make out whether it's still present in master cylinder. An unexpected bubble inside relieved me at times. Got to change it as well, preferably with a DOT4.

        Fork oil is to be replaced in every 10,000 kms or 8 months. The stock oil is Castrol 20 W and is available for Rs. 150/- or so for 350 ml and the quantity to be filled is 145 ml per fork. While replacing the oil, check the condition of the springs too.

        The difference between DOT3 and 4 is in dry and wet boiling points and viscosity. Buy a good fluid such as Bosch or Castrol, one brake bleeding nut and replace the fluid yourself in reverse brake bleeding method which is easier and more perfect.
        As the brake fluid is likely to be forgotten for the next 3 or more years, consider replacing the brake hose now which is to be replaced in every 4 years.

          Thanks for your reply. Did you change fork oil of your bike by yourself?. I am planning to change fork oil on my bike by myself and I have following questions in my mind. If you, SparKot or any of the forum members have an idea please help.

          * are you sure about the oil type and quantity?. From where did you found it?.
          * Is there any need to change oil seal while replacing fork oil?
          * What should be observed on the springs?
          * What are the tools required?

          Hope it is same for GS too.

            Completed 95,383 KMS. Changed service centre from Dr Rajkumar Road Suzuki to Value Suzuki in Yelahanka. Service was good except washing which could improve. Bill came to 986.00 Replace the Brake Fluid and Brake Bleeding Done. Rear Tyre due for replacement. First tyre lasted exactly 50,000 KMS. Second one is at 45,000 KMS. Will replace it at 48,000 KMS.

              Yesterday I mailed Suzuki, asking about the details of the fork oil. Today morning Suzuki representative from the local service center called me and gave me the details.
              The oil is Castrol fork oil (don't know the viscosity rating), comes in a 300ml bottle.
              Amount - 145ml
              The oil seal should be changed if required.

                Congrats on crossing the 95000 mark. Hope it was a trouble free ride.

                If you could explain in brief about the maintenance you carried out, it would be helpful for most of us here.

                Also it may encourge many to get a GS who are searching for their New/Next ride and who are browsing through the pages of XBHP.

                  Congrats Sarvodaya! Waiting for the big ton soon Guess yours is the highest run GS ever! Good going.

                  Some issues have cropped up in my bike.

                  1. There is a loss of power. With single riding at speeds above 90 I can feel a strain in the engine. Bike is not pulling much. With doubles, even 80 is kind of strenuous.
                  2. Engine heats up very much. Not the bottom part where the crank is there but the top of the engine. ITPL to Silk Board (roughly 25 KM) is enough to send the engine temperature soaring. I can feel it in my thighs.
                  3. Mileage has dropped to 35 from about 48 - 50.

                  I doubted the engine oil to be bad. Gulf Pride 4T Plus.

                  Took the bike to my mechanic today. He had a look and said the timing chain has worn out. That explains the loss in power and heat. So engine oil is not the culprit. As for the mileage, he asked me to check again by filling in Shell.

                  Since replacing the timing chain takes a while he asked me to run 500 more KM and get it for a service. During that he would replace the timing chain. After that I will run Shell engine oil and check the mileage too. Once again to Gulf oil to get a proper experience of the oil.

                  My question is, what is the life expectancy of the timing chain? Just normal wear and tear. I remember changing it in my Discover when it was about 25000 KM. This one is nearly 26500 now.

                    First 30,000 KMS, the bike was serviced @ 2,500 KMS. After 30,000 KMS it is @ 4,000 KMS. Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Spark Plug were replaced. Chain Sprocket lasts 20,000 KMS. Front Brake Pad @ 15,000 KMS. Clutch cable replaced four times. Interestingly the rear brake pad was replaced only twice. Service Bill comes to Rs.1,000. If Air Filter, Chain Sprocket replaced it comes to Rs.2,300. All service done @ Dr Rajkumar Road Suzuki. Every month, I get the bike pressure washed at my local mechanic. Costs Rs.100.

                    Rear Tyre changed at 50,000 KMS. Front Tyre @ 52,000 KMS. Around 80,000 KMS Mark the chain snapped in middle of night due to improper fitting. Brought a new set and replaced it at my local mechanic. If ridden sanely gives 50 KMPL below 50 KMPH. Reckless riding 35 - 40 KMS.

                    Accidental Repair - Front Mudguard @ Rs.2,000/- and Front Cowl @ Rs.700

                    The ODO Meter is five digit or six digit is not known. Will keep on eye and update.

                        First of all replace the air cleaner and carburetor plug as these parts are not ever lasting or free from cleaning. Ride the bike again and check whether the speed is proportional to engine RPM i.e. 62 kmh at 4500 RPM and 85 at 6000 etc.
                        The timing chain lasts longer and has no role here. So it need not be replaced as that foolish mechanic said.
                        Even if you fill, say if possible, liquid Teflon as lubricant instead of oil, your bike cannot reach supersonic speed of a rocket as some morons claim. So fill any xxW-40 mineral, SS or synthetic oil you prefer and forget it.

                          Thanks. Will upload the Picture. Bike is running silky smooth. Changed the service centre. Got it serviced at Value Suzuki, Yelahanka. Replaced the Front Brake Fluid and got Bleeding done. Now the Front Brake is superb. Off late, Dr.Rajkumar Suzuki is becoming worse. Around 80,000 KMS for the first my chain snapped in the middle of night. Took it to a local mechanic. He told that it was due to improper fitting of chain link. I have stopped using Nulon from the last two services. Getting a healthy 50 KMPL. Rear Tyre due for replacement. Planning it to replace at 98,000 KMS mark. This will the third rear tyre.

                          Any special servicing required for 1,00,000 like Engine Overhaul, Valve adjustment, Carburetor servicing required? I guess by March 2014, I shall be completing 1,00,000 KMS. I have already started saving few funds for the bike if required.

                                Brake bleeding nut to be replaced everytime we change the brake fluid? Made note about fork oil in the manual as it is one info that was missing there. PV, can you please share the tools required if you changed the fork oil yourself - I think GS has a big Allen bolt there that needs to be opened.

                                Monsoon God cursed the rear drum brake to a stone
                                - for the last 2 days, pedal is very hard like a stone and the rear wheel jams up if I use the rear brake. 0% braking power on the rear. I have to play with the pedal or move the bike a little back/forth to free the wheel. Will open the brake this weekend - expecting glazed shoes or broken lining or may be a simple lack of cam lubrication - any tips will help.
