• Re: Suzuki GS150R

completed 16500 odd kms in 2.5 years.
have few problems
1) Does accelerator cable attached to rotator below tank expand after few years like clutch cable? actually my accelerator knob does not recoil ( come to normal position) freely. i found out tat the cable has elongated, tried to adjust as mentioned in manual but in vain.

2) then left indicators of the vehicle are blinking perfectly, but my right rear indicator is not working and my right front indicators blink faster( cycle repeats fast) when compared to left ones.

Plz help guys

Approx 3k km in first 1.5 month. No complains regarding ride quality. Its smooth. After first servicing i think SVC guys didn't check for rear wheel alignment, so fixed that myself thanks to some post I read in this very thread before I even bought the bike. It was turning slightly towards right which now it doesn't.
Only that i have been hearing a specific tone of sound since a few days which becomes irritating after i while(I mentioned this earlier as a whistling sound but on close hearing seems to me like metal ringing as though metals hitting each other at high frequency) Took bike to SVC, they say they can't hear anything. Actually i don't have the patience to go and convince them that something may be wrong please look into it. So I will try to find myself. Any input from you guys would be nice. BTW the sound seems to be coming from the right side somewhere around carburetor

Your bike is still new even if not brand new - engine will become more and more "smooth and less noisy" (or is it actually our brain?) as you log more on the odo. Since SVC is unable to fault, do not worry for now. AFAIK, GS engine is more smooth and less noisy than the Unicorn. Even the Access is much more refined than the "segment leader-benchmark" Activa. One can hear tyre noise and a mild transmission hum when the surroundings are quiet like in early morning. On close hearing, one can make out different metallic sounds from any engine - post a youtube video of your engine sound if possible. Yes, even my SVC did not bother about sprocket alignment - good you yourself adjusted it.

Normal if the right rear bulb has fused - replace bulb/check circuit.

This happens when one of the bulb is of different make/wattage.
I have an aftermarket bulb on one of my winkers on my Hunk and it blinks slower!

I am seeing a lot of positive reviews about this bike over the internet and this forum.
I am just going thru the initial pages of this thread.
Just curious to know the following -
Does it come with tubeless tires?
Almost all of you guys are getting mileage of aroung 50kmpl?
Do you face any issue with availability of spares? Are the spares available at local shops also?
Any major issues with engine faced by anyone and engine overhaul had to be done.
The rear gas charged shock absorbers - are they in good condition after say 2-3 years? (My Hunk's rear gas shocks are very stiff now)

Almost all of you guys are getting mileage of aroung 50kmpl? Depends on the riding style. But most here do get it.
Do you face any issue with availability of spares? Are the spares available at local shops also? Not uptil now. Have been 4 years since brought the bike.
Any major issues with engine faced by anyone and engine overhaul had to be done. Have never experienced it personally.
The rear gas charged shock absorbers - are they in good condition after say 2-3 years? (My Hunk's rear gas shocks are very stiff now) Yes mine still good after 4 years of use with 15500kms and riding 60% mostly on worst roads.
I think this explains your query.

@ Satson.

The bike is overall good but since I have bought it, I have experienced niggling issues with the overall assembly of the bike.

Problems with brakes, front and back, wheel wobbling, fiel tank, etc. In 8 months, have visited service center 10 times. Still all issues are not resolved. 6000 kms run so far.

Overall feedback. Great bike but service network and capability of service staff is pathetic,

There are many other people who experienced the issue and others who chose to ignore this.

Thank You all for the feedback. Thanks punarvasu for the message with details.
Infact I had a test ride of the GS150 from a showroom in Chennai today.
What a plush ride, I was gliding!
No vibes, plush seat and suspension, very good headlight. The speedo looking stunning.
Ability to pull from low gears was decent too.
I found one thing to be annoying though, when twisted the throttle for quick acceleration the engine sound becomes rough. The sales guy was saying the bike's PDI is not done and that's why, though i don't believe him
The Hunk's sound is cool even on WOT.
Actually the bike had no/weak battery and was running on AC I think.

I expected the price to be bit low as it is single disk compared to Hunk, but Hunk double disk price is almost same as the GS150!

True that. You'll know what this bike is all about only when you ride it. BTW i have been constantly getting around 56-60 kmpl with mostly riding around lower 60s. This time I rode the bike constantly at around 37-40kmph in 6th gear on comparatively plain road (not much uphill or downhill slopes) and to my surprise I got just around 48-50 kmpl. While riding i didn't feel the bike was pulling hard as such which, i read is one of the reasons for low mileages at very low speeds. So was wondering what would be kind of a sweet spot to max mileage.

Driving at such low speeds in sixth gear will fry your Clutch Plates. For sixth gear, the minimum speed will be 60 kmph. For low speed riding, use fourth gear @ 4,000 rpm. In city I drive at 40 kmph using 4th gear or 3rd gear. Also do not lug the engine. Once the speed falls change gear.

I see. Normally i try not to let the white LED light nor do i let engine lug. So mostly am in 50-60 range in 6th gear. Will keep in mind what you said. This was just one experiment which turned out bad :P

I had another query. Every day the first half a kilometer after i start riding, engine behaves as if fuel supply is cut off giving me jerks even though i keep it idling for around 10 sec before moving. It used to happen before.

The engine does sound rough and rattling when accelerated quickly but this is not a sports bike so steady acceleration gives a better feel.

A couple of more thoughts.

You will be surprised that suzuki never does pdi for any vehicle so it is in your interest to thoroughly check the bike before it goes for registration and if possible take a longer test drive.

The engine refines with every service and oil change. Have found the engine much smoother after 5 sercices than when it was just new.

One more thing, I noticed that front disk brake is of BYBRE make. Does GS comes with BYBRE brakes from beginning?
And how much a new set of brake pads cost and how long they last?

My Titbits/Questions:

1. I too have read here that GS pulls cleanly from 30 kph in 6th, have tried that but the "pull" won't be there. I always keep the pot boiling in 3k-4.5k range except for the first 2 gears where I shift earlier. The only time I let a speed as low as 20-25 kph in 6th is for planned stops like stopping for a red signal.

2. At WOT, the noise is much more and there is roughness but I always get confused between exhaust note and engine sound .

3. Rsk, 10 seconds of idling is not enough? Try to warm up like how its mentioned in the manual - start with full choke, once engine starts move choke to halfway, continue warming up and finally completely return choke to zero.

4. For GS what is the optimum engine RPM (green band like they marked in 1st generation pulsar's tachometer)? Definitely the higher limit is Suzuki recommended 4.5k?

1. yes the GS pulls from 30kmph easily in 6th gear but dont know about the new model as they changed the final drive ratio i.e the sprockets

2. At WOT what you are feeling is perception

3. warming up the engine for atleast 30-40 sec is recommended and your engine responds well if you warm up properly

4. If you are using ECO mode then 4.5k is optimum and the shift indicator is the mark for our GS
I can put any Signatures :P
