Re: Suzuki GS150R
Urgent query!
My bike runs automatically. I've asked this question before everywhere but nobody seems to have an answer.
Just when I put it in gear mode, it starts moving at 5-7kmph speed. I have to constantly keep braking at signals or anywhere to not let it just run automatically.
Mechanics have no idea why it is happening. I know mechanics here are much more experienced and with masters degree :-P
On a serious note, It's irritating and I can't even reverse my bike without keeping it in neutral.
Pls tell me what's wrong?
It's a 2008 model

Re: Suzuki GS150R
I gave my bike for a minor check up and was not able to go back to the mechanic for the entire day.
My mech took me for a ride..
I had given with 40 Kms in Reserve (Trip A). When I got my bike back, it was 160 Kms in Trip A and fuel meter was blinking.
He did not add fuel nor he is accepting that he drove 120Kms in my bike. The minor issue seems to be un-resolved as well.
Fustrated I dont want to go back to him for anything. Search for a good mechanic starts....
One thing I found out is GS can ride 160Kms in reserve with some more fuel in the tank.
This made me to change my GS Chain and Sprokets myself. Took around 2 hours to clean and fix.
Vaccum Greased Rolon costed 910 Rs for the Chain and Sprocket set. (same as stock)
Things I needed were:
Allen Key 5MM and 6MM (To remove Front Sprocket)
12MM Ring spanner, 8MM "T" Spanner, 10MM Spanner for adjusting chain slackness.
Tools provided with the Bike
Cutting Plyer (to remove chain link)
Some Free Time
Optional:
Kerosene - to wash the nuts, chain guard, break hub and your hands.
Grease - to use in rear breaks and in the center axle.
Few old cloths.
I will paste the few photos I have with the explanation this weekend.
GS has completed 24XXX kms till now with front Sprocket changed already at 17K kms.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

BlackPanther - waiting for the photos.
nikhil congrats! my lowest bill for authorized service stands at Rs. 2/-
. So you do use Shell AX7 10W-40? Its a good oil (used it once). Headlight is an issue for me even in the city - especially when riding on a road I have never ridden before - this means I can expect a pothole anywhere. Currently, I manage this by driving much slower on poorly lit unfamiliar roads.

another query, two days back i renewed the bikes insurance at Apple Autos. I paid 1400 for it. But in the policy which i recieved through email yesterday, its written the amount as 1238 only.
And also, the total value shows 57600. I dont remember how much it was earlier (they took the older one from me ) . Is this the max amount that can be claimed incase something happens to the bike ?
is it possible to take life time insurance ??

Re: Suzuki GS150R
For my new GS150R (purchased 2 weeks ago approx), total value that can be claimed is shown as 67450, while the bike's worth as per tax invoice is only 62k, and tax is 9k.Originally posted by nikhil.krishnan View Post2 rs ? :O what did they charge that 2 rs for ?when driving in night, mostly i will take advantage of the light from fellow bikers, cars and other vehicles on my same side. :P :P

so, total worth shown in the invoice is 71k. So, based on this, I'm guessing whole of bike is covered under insurance.
And, obviously, as the bike's age increases, it's worth, as well as the insurance coverage decreases.
I don't think there is an option for life time insurance for a motor vehicle. I doubt such option being present for us (humans) as well.

Guys, I've a question.
My bike is approx 2 weeks old, and has run 400+ kms till now.
300 kms ago, I'd my tank filled up. I'd filled 18 ltrs of petrol, while I already had some 3 ltrs of petrol in the bike. So, total was around 21 ltrs.
I guess it would've taken some more
(may be 0.5 litre). I'd reset the Trip A meter then.
For the past few days, I've been waiting for the first fuel indicator bar (from right) to go blank (since I've already run 250+ kms since then). It's just not happening, and Trip A is just a few kms shy of 300 now.
My calculation of the fuel indicator bars are as below (assuming the actual total capacity is 21 ltrs, as I'd filled that much petrol for almost full tank) -
First bar (from right) - 5 ltrs
Second bar - 4 ltrs
Third bar - 4 ltrs
Fourth bar - 4 ltrs
Fifth bar - 4 ltrs
I know that the fuel indicators are not perfect and all, but, when I'm turning on the ignition on my bike in the morning (kept on center stand), or when I'm doing the same from my office parking (again kept on center stand), the petrol in the tank would be definitely stand still, and so the indicators should work as expected, right?
Or, based on my calculation, should I assume that my new GS is giving much more mileage than I've expected before first servicing
? Or, does the fuel indicator bars works differently than I've thought?
Has anyone checked the range of the fuel indicator bars from full tank?
If, in real, my GS is giving 60+ kmpl now itself, I would be more than happy.
Oops, almost forgot to mention my riding habit -
I've been driving mostly on highway (90%), in the rpm range of 4000 - 5000 and speed range of 45 - 68 kmph.
Occasionally, like 2-3 times, I might have crossed just above 5000rpm mark. I've been trying to shift gears around 3500rpm. Most of the times, I've managed to do that. Occasionally, I ended up shifting between 2500-3000rpm in lower gears.
Thanking in Advance and Awaiting for reply

and,
its possible that your bike is giving 60+ mileage in the initial days itself. . Eventhough the suzuki page says 17 ltrs , there seem to be lot of ppl here who filled upto 18-19 ltrs..but i just dont think that the tank can hold 21 litrs in it. .
is that petrol bunk a trustworthy one ? otherwise, they might have tricked you.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Yes, tank can hold 21 Ltrs.
@ RajendraNath
Dont rely no the fuel indicator. They may not be accurate. I have hit reserve thrice in the last month when there was 2 bars in the speedo.
Also, the best was to find average is Reserve to reserve method.
Usually my GS blinks after crossing 90-100 Kms in reserve.
@ others,
I have a query reg my Unicorn.
I have crossed 38K mark in Odo. When I swith on the bike after a long stop (Usually 9 hours after office gets over or 12 hours After I Reach home), there seems to be smoke dust coming out from silencer during idling (only above 4K RPM). at Normal 1200 RPM, i cannot see anything.
Have never noticed it since last 3 and half years.
One of my friend told that it must be the carbon particles stuck to the inner walls of silencer. Any ideas on this.
I am afraid, I need to open engine for reboring or piston-rings change.
On a serious note, i am planning to use Iftex System G along while fuelling up the next time. I believe this is meant for Cars, but let me give a try in my Uni for few thousand Kms and update.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

That's all.
Anyway, I've a doubt. Are you using both GS and Unicorn on a regular basis?
If so, can you tell me which engine makes less sound (even marginally)?
I had a feeling that Unicorn engine makes a little less sound than that of GS. Is it true?
Btw, how many bikes are you using now, from that list you have?

What do you mean by smoke dust?
Do you see grey/blue smoke coming from silencer when revved hard?
Do you see drop in engine oil level after say 1000kms?

Re: Suzuki GS150R
I dont know how to explain. Once it is out of the silencer, it flows down. Like a heavier partilces in a less lighter medium.Originally posted by SatSon View PostWhat do you mean by smoke dust?

It is not blue but black. It is highly suffocating.
And Yes, Oil level decreases but never goes beyond the lower limit in 2000Kms.
Once I remove oil at 2000Kms drain interval, i get around 900 ML of oil everytime.
This time i did not have a chance to check oil level.
The drain bolt cannot be removed as the ends have broken. I also need someone to help me on how to remove it. I ll purchase a new drain bold from service center but removing the old one is a challange.
Just absorved the oil from the top (oil filler cap) using machines available in Shell Petrol pumps and added new oil. This will be a solution untill the drain bolt is changed.

Will use my cycle for short commutes nearby home. Had never let me down even in any circumstances.
Scooty is to commute locally for purchase. You get lots of carrying space compared to bikes. Twist the throttle and it flies.
Apart from Activa, I use the other 3 on a regular basis. My daily office commute is 100Kms. So it becomes mandate to have a spare bike.
Started using Nano only when I have to take my new born. Dont want to risk taking a infant in bike with the super good roads in place
Comparing GS and Unicorn would be a contravertial topic.
As per my usage till now and what I remember,
Unicorn would be silent on any given gears compared to GS only below 70. After that Speed, GS Sings whereas Unicorn Cries..
GS gives more mileage than Unicorn.
Pickup is good in Unicorn compared to GS. The amount spent on spares with Unicorn was less at 24K Kms compared to GS.
Tall Pillion riders complain about comfort in GS for long rides (100+kms). The reason they say is the foot rest is placed high with respect to seating.
You cannot carry anything on top of your GS Tank because of the shape of the tank where as the tank of Uni is flat allowing you to place atleast your helmets while fuelling up.
Resale value(if you plan to sell) is pathetic as GS is from Suzuki.
People say Suzuki is prone to rusting, but my Unicorn tank started signs of rust below the tank compared to Suzuki where I could not find any.
Both bikes have their own positives and negatives. Each will serve its own purpose.
I just respect every bike because some one else owns them.Last edited by BlackPanther; 12-19-2013, 06:20 PM.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

Re: Suzuki GS150R
May be you would've been running rich for sometime and also it is 37k on odo. There could be carbon deposits in the cylinder head valves etc.Originally posted by BlackPanther View PostI dont know how to explain. Once it is out of the silencer, it flows down. I think, decarbonizing the head/valves etc would resolve the issue. Also check the carb setting and retune the carb if necessary.
If you are continuously seeing black smoke, it could be your bike running rich. Also check your air filter and clean it as a clogged air filter will make the mixture rich.
I think this is not related to engine oil burning and you don't have to worry thinking of engine overhaul.
You can get the drain bolt removed from any local workshop, they have tools for that. Also, removing drain bolt will let more old oil to flow out than using the absorber.
So get the drain bolt issue rectified soon.

Just an update on this. Today, the first bar on the indicator went off in the range of 310-320 kms.Originally posted by RajendraNath View Post

I know the fuel indicator is just based on the fuel level and it's not accurate.
But, I guess it doesn't entirely show wrong value, especially when the bike is in upright position. So, I trust it a little bit.
