  • Hi,
Has anyone tried adjusting the suspension from the factory setting of 3 to anything softer or harder ??

Does changing it to 2 just decrease only the height or does it also make the suspension soft while going over pot holes ??

I got this doubt after reading that the suspension is 5 "step" adjustable..

And also, i want to remove the saree guard, but those bolts are like they have been welded or something !! doesn't move an inch also. any suggestions on how to remove them easily ? (i'm keeping going to SC as last option because carrying the guard back home in a bag will be a headache.

    • Selling my GS150R

      Hi guys,

I recently had a small accident (3rd time). No big damages to me or my bike but my parents have asked me to sell the bike. They told this after my 2nd accident (which happened a year ago) but i somehow convinced them and was continuing with my bike. But this time they are very much concerned and wants me to sell my bike immediately (my parents feel that this bike is heavier for me and it is not sentimentally doing good)

My bike's right side rear cowl got broken because of the fall. I am waiting for the spare to arrive to svc. I have found a prospective buyer who is ready to buy my bike for 40k (11000km on ODO, bought on april,2009). I will sell the bike to the guy once i have changed the rear cowl.

Now the budget for my next bike is 60k plus i should not go for a 150cc (Damn.. i am gonna miss the big bike feel of my GS ) - Strict orders from my parents.

I need a bike immediately after selling this bike so I have no other option but to go for pulsar 135. I hate bajaj but they are the only guys whos is ready to deliver the bike the very same day u pay the money.

I am gonna miss my GS badly. This was my first bike that too i got it with my hard earned money.

The 6th cog, the gear indicator, the relaxed commuter postion.... I am gonna miss them all

Its part of life. Have to live with it or just move on

Before going for the PulsarLS you can also check on the SZ from Yamaha,it has got a safe FZ engine, weighs just like Pulsar135 and has got the same pick-up like LS.All Pulsars handles worse save the Pulsar220 and due to vibrations tend to be uncomfortable and to some may seem uncomfortable also.
Yamaha SZ would come home within 60K.

Brother the number of cc cannot change what is to happen to you, until and unless you find the ride which is comfortable for you and you change the way you ride and develop it.

I had more fatal crashes on the 125cc bike that I used than the 150cc bike which I am now using.

After being spoiled by the smoothness which GS150R provided you I doubt if you would be okay with LS..........thats why I recommend you SZ,bcoz Yamaha vibration levels are definitely less than Bajaj if not as smooth as the GSR.

        Ride safe,ride long.

Below are my views on yamaha sz-x

          1) TVS tyres - This is the worst part of this bike. TVS tyres lets you down easily if you are not good in braking.

          2) It seems the front drum brakes are dumb. The stopping power from 70 - 0 is not good it seems so (read about this in some reviews of this bike)

A 150cc (which can touch 70 - 80 easily) which cannot stop when you want it to stop that too with the TVS tyres there are lots of chances of getting into bad situations.

          • why don't you check out the CBF stunner? it fulfills all your parents demands(<150cc, 128kgs kerb weight) as well as yours. the bike handles great, is not that heavy and has better than average braking i can say. and obviously its reliable being a honda.....
            The purpose of biking -
100cc- to get from point A to point B
            125cc- to get there fast
150cc- to have some fun while getting there
200+cc- to start from point A and forget when point B passed by

It's not the ride but the rider that matters!

            • Reduce height

              I own a GS150.

Is it possible to reduce the height.

I am 5.5, i would be more comfortable if height of the bike is lower by 1-2".

By changing wheels to lower dia, say 17", will reduce the height, or by changing the shocks. Pls confirm.

If it is possible to reduce the height by changing the wheels, i am ready to sell my GS wheels if somebody here is in need of alloy wheels (18"),

Yamaha will introduce disc brake in sz-x within next month or two.so you can wait for it.but you should reconsider about selling a good bike.
                @mach50
can Yamaha G5 rear brake lever installed in gs150r to avoid hitting of brake lever to speed breaker. because after a long use rear drum it tend to hit speed breaker even if it was tighten constantly.i have posted about this twice before.
                @all
my idea is to improve the rear brake so help me guys.

You will hardly notice the difference in height after adjusting it. But adjusting the pre-load (spring) will not change how it reacts to potholes.

if you are heavy and when you sit on the bike if it sags then make it harder. but if you very light make it softer. For me 4 was very hard. 3 is just fine.

Its because SZ-X has no disc brakes ,it has got no expected stopping power.
TVS tyres have been revamped,I have read in Bike India that the new ones are better as tested. All bikes like RTRFi and RTR180 are equipped with TVS tyres.
Yamaha plans to launch the SZ with disc soon.

CBF Stunner also wont be a bad option..........if you love Honda.

                    No idea,

Yes,I too face the same problem.
Rear Brake assembly seems to be an issue on the GSR.......but its a minor glitch, because the Front brakes are the best in the whole segment.Does the job without throwing you over.

I have experienced the same problem with GS's brake lever. But i dont think its a serious issue, we just have to avoid stepping on lever while negotiating the hump. The real culprit is the positioning of exhaust pipe which made the lever like the way it is.

                      • @ bubbly,

Pulsar 135LS is a good option
I would call it as the best choice on below 150cc range because

1 it has 4 valves which gives you good pickup that even beats its own 150cc sibling.

2 p135ls is a exceptional good quality product from bajaj pulsar family.

3 you know how stylish it is

4 you can get all this with out sacrificing mileage.

5 its light weight so you can flick and zip zap thru city traffic
At the same time aerodynamic and light weight may drag you further while sudden breaking , in gs its weight helps alot in controling and breaking. So what ever it cant be a gs our gs is unique, try again and convince your parents

Changing the suspension to second position will not affect the ride height. The suspension gets softer. You can adjust it yourself using the Y shaped thing in the toolkit. I had adjusted it yesterday only.
The bolts of the sari guard are accessible from inside of the left rear panel. The will be pretty tight due to mud caking from rear tire but can be loosened using enough force.

I weigh around 55kgs, so i thought of making the setting to 2 if it'll be better on the potholes.
I had told the SC people to change it when i gave for servicing, those people didnt do a thing and gave the bike with 3 setting itself.!!

how do you adjust the suspension with the Y shaped thing ? i have to try doing it myself since SC people didnt do it during last service even though i told them to.

                              • crashed ::: accident ::: Escaped

                                Was travelling comfortably with family
My 2 yrs old kid is on front and wife on back seat

The speed was 45 kms their was a honda city going in front of us

That honda city F***er applied breaks in middle of the road. That was unexpected I applied break despite of it we got crashed on back of the car despite of 75 kg weight in back seat my GS back part came up in the aid while we got crashed with the car.

the distance between is not more than 8 feet.

Thank god my kid and wife are left unharmed and I got hit. On left knee got swelling no blood injuries

I felt GS left unharmed but just noticed that my GS clutch leaver curled. Even that looks stylish.

Now I feel if it is any other bike the outcome of the accident may be bad. Because of the GS weight it came to control quickly while during sudden stop.

Apart from god I need to thank the GS default dumb back break, if it is a disk then the thing will be more bad.
