Hey guys, Im ram from bangalore. Ive been a stalker on these forums for a while now. Im damn happy to have run into you guys. Hope to stay here for a while.
I own a month old gsr, blue black, done some 750 kms, first service done last week. This is my first experience with owning a four stroke bike and maintaining any bike in general over a long term. So, I was initially given into some anxiety and started fault finding. However, upon coming across xbhp and especially this thread, I felt damn relieved and I went through as much as I could (though not even half the pages). The problems I can confirm on my bike that have appeared on other bikes as well are:
> Rusting on the mouth of the tank - solved - showroom replaced it with another brand new tank upon complaint.
> Loose chain - chain was loose within first week of delivery. was told it was common on new bikes but even after tightening on first service, has loosened to the earlier amount again. Gearshifts occur with a noticeable but not too obvious thud which seems to originate from the chaincase and not the gearbox.
> After first service, sometimes it would jerk like its running out of petrol only to run fine again after a couple of seconds. I complained to the SC and they said they had fixed it. It was fine for a couple of days but its started again. It doesnt show up much when the engine is warmed up and blasted for a couple of laps but its very noticeable at low speeds, especially on cold starts. I dont know what the SC did to my carb, but now, the idling rpm is at 2k when warm and around 1,2-1.5 k cold.
> Probably a result of the above two, Im getting a mileage of around 37-42 depending on pillion or single riding in city traffic. I weigh around 69-72 kilos. My riding is a mix of normal to mouthfoaming rash and always in normal mode, never set ECO but occasionally PWR for very short distances. But even when Im sane, i get around the same avg. Im disappointed. I know you guys say not to mind the mileage until second service but I want to know how different people report different mileage even upto 60kmpl on factory tuning. There cant be many variables to consider on a fresh bike.
> Vibrations from the front end at about 3.5-4k rpm, noticeable on the fairing....esp rightside. The headlamp-fairing has never been touched since I bought it. Havent bothered to fix it as I barely notice it.....i.e. I dont stay in that rpm range for more than a second or two.
> Soft front brake feels nice unlike other disc brake setups but its a bit inadequate for panic braking. I need to start braking from atleast 10 metres to come to a stop from 50kmph.
>Woefully inadequate headlight....nearly hit a couple of stones, flew off some humps and into potholes on these damned bangalore roads because of improper illumination.
----------------------
Things I noticed specific to my bike :
> I can sense a bit of slight periodic wobbling....up and down 'jumps'....at all speeds more noticeable at low speeds. Cant make out whether its front or back wheel. SC guys say they dont notice it but Im on their case about this. Ive tested this multiple times on the same patch of road at the same speeds on different vehicles. Mine seems to jump more. I stress the word seems. The suspension is not set too soft, its the middle one.
> I changed to gulf pride on first service seeing that a few of you guys were using it. Sc was using veedol. Vehicle was smooth for the first 20-30 kms, gearshifts buttersmooth... couldnt even feel the shifts. Its been more than a 100 kms now and engine has started feeling rough approaching 4-4.5k rpm and above. Even gearshifts are sometimes clunky, 2nd gear shifts with a thud and most others occur with 2 clicks.....even with heel shifter....sometimes that is.
> Have any of you noticed any errors in your tripmeters? i suspect mine is wrong by a few kms compared to the odo over a distance of 50+ kms. Also, my fuel guage shows just 1 bar even when ON sometimes.
----------------------
Other stuff:
> I second that there is definitely a performance difference between the different modes and not simply a blinking light and fancy names like one of you said. You can tell the difference in vehicle sound itself between PWR and normal. I love PWR.
> I dont regret buying this vehicle....I chose it after a lot of thought but I wish it was less troublesome than it is now....but Im thankful i didnt recieve the worst of the raw deals. Suzuki need to up its quality control a lot.
> I didnt pay much heed to break in rules though I knew them byheart.....often took it upto 6k and above but brought it back soon enough. I put some stress on the engine, started pillion riding from around 60-70 kms on the odo, used to shift around 5000 to 6000 rpm for a while, still do sometimes. Have occasionally taken it beyond 7000rpm. Sped upto 75-80 kmph. I feel much less guilty doing all this after first service. I didnt change engine oil soon enough for all this stress....only sometime after 600 kms. Hope my baby doesnt think bad of me.
-----------------------
Sorry for the long post guys....maybe I should keep a prize for anyone who goes thru this.
Anyway happy to be here. Hope I can give something back.
Also, howdydo to anupdas and madhu.Last edited by 2strokerama; 11-30-2010, 02:03 AM.

Welcome to GSpian community Ram
. Have been waiting for you ever since you posted it on **********.
I'm sure no one would have posted this long post as their first one
. Though there are many posts in our thread, much of them are dealing with break-in riding methods, engine oils, rusting, engine resonance, gear shifts, visor sounds, lighting modification etc. If you came across these topics, you have read enough
.
Though you already know I'm posting a few points,
1. Make your idling rpm to 1.5K rpm when engine is hot i.e. ran for more than 5 mins
2. Ignore about the chain getting loose, chain will continue to get loose till some 2000 kms. It may get loose even faster if we accelerate suddenly and riding with pillion. After 2-3 tightening it will require only a periodic adjustment. There is a small window in the lower chain cover, you can check if the chain is set too tight or if its getting loose.
3. In new engines the resonance is more prominent, dont worry about it. It will fade away with time.
4. On next service try another service centre and ask for a carburetor tuning, one will definitely get more than 50 if they ride in eco mode 50-60 range.
Revving hard in break-in period is not advisable occasional bursts are ok. The break-in method is a controversial topic. I have seen guys in S.C redlining fresh bikes. Till we get familiar with bike its always better to ride slow and that may be the reason why the break-in method remain same for decades.
PS: Can you explain the wobbling issue?Last edited by Anupdas; 11-30-2010, 06:13 PM.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

I am pretty happy with Gulf Pride Oil. Miles better than the SVC Oil. Even after riding 2000+ Kms, the Oil Color is still reddish. Though it has become a bit rough. But i guess that's obvious.Originally posted by akfara View PostU didn't tell us How is ur gulf oil performed ....Even i changed the gulf oil after some 2500 Km Still It is in the color Wine red ..and with viscosity also there,My SC mech afterwards tell me to use MOBIL super 4T 20w 40 , which is also good and most of them using here changing after 3500km....
I plan to go Gulf pride again as motul is not avail in my small town....Its not bad to check how motul performs over gulf pride...So go for it ....And try , bcos no one tell this oil is bad , In fact I feel Motul is superior than gulf....
I am getting inclined to go for Motul 3000T since it gels well with our GSR it seems, from the reviews here.

Accidents are common with you huh ????Originally posted by MSN1 View PostIf fate is bad we cant stop things from happening but with presence of mind you can reduce the damage.
Ride Safe and please keep the eyes out.............stop riding for a few days to pass this phase off.
So many accidents over such a short span is not a good indication.

Buddy take care of yourself. And try to avoid riding the bike with ur child on it. Better go for some four wheeler for your family drive. Alto K10 is a very good and cheaper option.Originally posted by MSN1 View PostIf fate is bad we cant stop things from happening but with presence of mind you can reduce the damage.

May be my magnetic power is growing faster and my GS is glowing thus objects are attracted towards us!!!!
Seems my predessor mr rajesh (chennai) also got three accidents. And this is the third one for me with in the past one month.

Thank god you and your family is safe
. There is no such thing as Satan or bad luck its our attitude that really matters. You just be yourself, nothing is going to happen
.
I dont like cars but with current traffic conditions, its a must to travel with our family at peace. I have gotten so used to bike that when I drive car, I would grab the steering wheel and try to tilt it than to turn it on panic situations.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

Fate. Couple of years back, I was speeding on a long stretch of straight road near hebbal. Zigzagging through traffic, I blind overtook a bus anticipating taht there was no vehicle beside it because there was no other vehicle sound ahead than the bus. That stretch wasnt very well lit and I'd switched off my headlight just a couple of minutes ago. I overtook the bus and sped ahead and suddenly I hit something hard, I swung forward gripping the handle, my bike revved hard, began to rattle and sway side to side.....somehow I regained balance and stopped after some distance. I looked down, my front fork dented on one side and crash guard bent back some 40 degrees. I parked my vehicle, took a few breaths. I turned around and walked back to the place I lost control and I see a couple of concrete blocks knocked off the divider sitting in the middle of the road!!! Thats what I hit. Fate.If fate is bad we cant stop things from happening but with presence of mind you can reduce the damage.
Luckily I wasnt going too fast else I might have flown off my bike into heaven. I saw the same thing happen to someone else near sujata talkies. Indian roads are a most unpredictable environment. You never know what to expect. Best to keep one eye on the road and one on the sky.
Be very very careful guys.Last edited by 2strokerama; 11-30-2010, 08:33 PM.

@anupdas: hey man, I randomly went through the forum pages....picked some page and read some 5-10 pages before and after it, rinse, repeat. So, Ive missed a lot of the conversation. If its not too much trouble, can you link me to the posts on mileage probs and engine oil? Also, guys Id appreciate some feedback on the wobbling prob I mentioned....just name some possible causes.
