  • [QUOTE=ssivakumar.r;540451]Hi friends, I am getting sparks around my Gs's spark plug, i mean between the rubber cap and the casing.
I am getting this when my engine is considerably hot (when ride more than 25km). and Its visible and heard at low rpm (1300-1500), that is when i accelerate gently at this range of engine speed, sparking occurs with sound and engine struggles and stops So whenever engine is hot i have to accelerate a bit to avoid stopping. There is no sparking when the engine is cold.QUOTE]

Not a very serious problem. There is a loose connection in the spark plug adaptor or there may be scratch or something like that in the cable. Just replace the cable and adaptor.

    All the best.

While giving my bike for service last week, I noticed another GS owner @ SC having a similar problem. On starting the bike a crackling sound along with sparks was visible from the spark plug area. The SC people replaced the adapter covering the spark plug after taping the new adapter to the power cable. It solved the case and I think yours will be a similar condition as diagnosed by Vishnu..

Why did you bother to tune if you were having these fantastic figures?

        @ Vishnukmd

By being so nice you are actually teasing us bro. Keep up your good work.
Seriously made a mistake by tuning it...Had been to local mechanic. He tuned it to some degree am not sure how many turns he did but the bike is returning a decent kmpl minus loss in linear pickup. He said he made 2 turns but the pickup seems to be on a rough side. Will have to check out what will happen. By the way am traveling a quite long distance (touring ~800 kms) during this Christmas & I hope it will be good enough by that time. Have to give for 4th service (7500 kms) before going out for a trip & hoping not to put the same old castrol engine oil. Am planning to go for shell. But not sure which one to go for. So can you pls recommend/advice on shell engine oil...

brother shell is no good to our gs try valvolin or elf or motul or gulf or try a oil that has the jaso ma2 standard.

Believe me I learnt to handle it well in peak chennai traffic and my bike does it with ease...

Now with 16.8K kms on the odo... My bike does very well in this rainy chennai. Had ridden it for more than 120 kms in chennai traffic alone this weekend.. no probs faced till now (touch wood)..

I've been doing a few long rides recently and GS is proving to be a very good choice for long rides. The engine is stress free even after covering 200-300 km continuously at speeds of 100-110 kmph.

Except the chain issue, everything is perfect. I was not satisfied with Millers Road Suzuki's service here in Bangalore. So, got it serviced in Pondicherry. And boy, service was really good. They checked everything and cleaned the exteriors of the engine alloys and gave it like it was a new bike. Was really impressed.

Could anybody tell me how you carry luggage while touring. I was using those rubber ropes. But its not very reliable. If anybody could give me an option i'd be happy.
yes it is made for long tours,i have much of experience with it!!!!try going for saddle bags and tank bags......

I am totally against carburettor re-tuning and it is from my experience. I believe that this bike is tuned for better mileage and performance – both balancing. So disturbing the tuning is not a good idea. And, only a very few mechanics are capable of doing it perfectly.

GS is a new bike and it is technologically advanced. Its service manual (workshop manual) is not available with local mechanics. So it will be better to get the bike repaired at service centre.

In your case, ask the workshop manager to tune the carburettor correctly. Do not consult the sc mechanic; consult the workshop manager or supervisor. Most of them are having adequate knoledge. He will do the needful.

I have not used shell engine oil. Hence no opinion about it. In my long experience, Castrol power 1 (15W40, part synthetic) is a good oil. Try.

There are so many experts around us. Some are capable to retune any bike. The only weapon they have and they need is a screw driver. They will screw or unscrew anything they get. Some of them may be having mild obsessive-compulsive disorder. They cannot get rid of the thought of retuning. I wonder, why they are not contacting Suzuki itself and offering their magic potion of retuning.

Some others are capable to cover 800 kms in 6 hours or 900 kms in 8. 50 hours or 1200 kms in 10 hours; that too without any break – at least for a refill. In their case, I think, the time may have stood still.

After re-tuning the bike, keep it intact. As you are planning a long trip, get the bike thoroughly checked by the sc mechanic. Replacing the spark plug with an iridium plug is a better suggestion.

              Best wishes.

                • Hi guys,

After a lots of confusions and research I have convinced my parents for a 150cc bike and has booked the new HH Hunk today (will be getting the delivery in another 3 or 4 days).

Initially i was about to settle for p135LS but lots of negative responses from my friends regarding bajaj (even I felt it from the beginning)

It seems HH has hiked the prices for all its models w.e.f Dec 1, 2010(1k- 2k). My Hunk which was quoted 68.5k last week got changed to 70k

why did i choose hunk in the 150cc segment??

                  1) Pulsar 150 - A big no for bajaj (Its my personal opinion. No offence meant here)

                  2) Unicorn - A veeerrryyyy llllooooonnnngggggg waiting period

                  3) Dazzler - 74.5 k on road (here in chennai)... Eat my dust honda.. The headlight design sucks big time (its purely personal opinion)

                  4) FZ - 74k (which is costly for me) + Me being a bubbly cant make a pillion to sit comfortably on this bike + Low mileage

                  5) CBZ extreme - HH gonna revamp it very soon but I am not sure when they are gonna do it but i am in damn need of a bike very soon

With the new hunk revamped (digi console, LED tails, tubeless tyres, maintenance free battery etc etc) I finally settled for it... Even the delivery was fast

Will be leaving my GS to the second owner tomorrow.. Gonna miss her very much

I had wonderful times with this bike (ignoring the accident things )... It has never let me down anytime... My trip from chennai - sivasamudra falls - hogenekkal - chennai (1200km) is a memorable one... Cherishing it even now

I still miss the old timer's post [sam9s, shadowfax, etc] as we got to choose GS when we never saw one on road.. those days were the times when this thread meant so much to us.. Now its a great feeling to have owned such a good bike.. and be a part of this great thread...

@SivaKumar - Bro, are you still going to Jain Suzuki, I still give there.. I see that they have become from better to bad.. Whats is your opinion. I asked one service guy about how many bikes they service on a day. He said its 35 with 5 mechanics. Going by a simple calculation [7 bikes / mechanic] and considering one mechanic works 10 hours a day, he will be able to finish only 5 bikes [2 hours per bike]. But they charge us @75rs per hour for 3 hours. that comes to 240rs[inc tax]. I seriously doubt the quality of service they do.

@Bubbly - Congrads on your new Hunk, We'll miss the GS too.

can I ask why youre giving up your gs? Im feeling a bit sad cos Im biased towards suzuki. though my bike has its fair share of problems, I wouldnt dream of selling it off in favour of another bike.
