price wise as well as quality wise their is not much difference between mineral and semi synthetic.

most manufactures makes semi synthetic in the following proposition (75 % to 80 % mineral oil + 20% to 25% synthetic oil = semi synthetic oil)

oil change interval of semi synthetic is same as mineral.

believe it or not most of the semi synthetic available here is not better than
    motul mineral.

i used shell and castrol semi synthetic both are no where close to the performance of the motul 3000 plus

you can try some other brand or motul semi synthetic

even i am also at 7.5 k on odo
i have done nearly 1.2k with the motul.....the colouris not completely black but still the engine is rough....will soon change it....

when i bought GS a year back it was one of a kind bike in kalyan....people litrally throwed questions about the bike like bahar se mangaya kya? and i just kept looking at them, the condition now is you find atleast a GS in every five lanes.
When you cruise down the highway the vehicle owner behind you continously flashes and honks to make you slow down and not ask,but to tell the owner that the bike is too good.....if you havent experienced it try going to outskirts of mumbai on NH3.....you'll meet lot of gaon wala people!!!!

    • Side Dicky & bag for GSR

I am looking for a side Dicky for GSR for trips to market & other stuff. Also want a detachable side bag, which i plan to use for long journeys.
I want to buy something which will suit our bike nicely. So far have visited a few shops but not found a very good one. Anybody has any ideas?

Infact when i had gone to grant road, i found a lot of people staring at my bike on the way. Even those area doesn't seems to have GSR.

This might sound stupid, but i don't know where Ulhasnagar is. Can you give me directions from vashi how to reach Ulhasnagar. Does the service centre guys allow you to use your own oil?

i have got two bottles of motul from grant road. After these are finished i will surely go to mulund.
Thats too much to pay for a headlight. Maybe you can get another guy to take 1 bulb & pay 50% for the bulb.

and change the oil yourself.....it takes just five mins.....but make sure you do it after the servicing from them.......

i will maskofy my brother for one!!!!

dont put a side dicky it wont look good at all......instead invest in a tank bag which can be doubled up as a backpack......

            Thanks Maestro.

Put lots of maska, amul ka season hai.

I have heard about the tank bag, but never seen any, nor have i found 1 in nearby shops. where to find one? any gspians used it, any photos please?

Also just 1 tank bag would not be sufficient for long journeys.

I guess i can answer this, see there are 4 authorized showrooms in Mumbai, 2 on western side and 2 on eastern side of Mumbai and they are all in suburbs

On Western suburbs, Andheri and Malad, on Eastern suburb its at Asalpha (Ghatkopar) and Mulund.

No showroom or SVC in Urban Mumbai, so i guess thats explain why you dint see any GS in Grant Road

I have noticed one more thing that after feeding the beast with motul it becomes smooth the engine noise redduces to great extent but when i rev hard really hard i.e. continously more than 100kmph on the speedo for a nice 10-15 mins the engine sound returns back to haunt me again....from then onwards even if the engine is cold the noise irritates me......
what could be the possible solution?

To reduce the irritating sound, you should reduce the speed. At 100 kmh, you are almost near the maximum speed it can produce. As far as I know, GS is not designed as a racing bike; it is a commuter aiming the middle class sector. They prefer mileage to speed. It's engine also is tuned accordingly.

Yeah Castrol is not bad but in current market castrol is the market leader as well as their are many counter fleet duplicate castrol cans are available in market thats the actual thing spoils its market.

moreover thats the reason castrol tried several tactic such as new cap seal for all oil packs and so on

differ with you on those lines which i quoted in bold because mineral, semi synthetic and synthetic are different
especially synthetic and mineral is totally different in terms of performance, ingredients and so on

in case of doubt you can check out in google for the difference between mineral and synthetic oil

Mineral oil = is a by product of Crude oil (raw petroleum)

                      Semi Synthetic = 75 % to 80 % mineral oil + 20 to 25 % synthetic oil

Synthetic oil = Synthetic Oil is a lubricant consisting of chemical compounds which are artificially made (synthesized) from compounds other than crude oil (petroleum)

                          • Mileage Check - Need Help

Yesterday, i filled 1.03 litre petrol.
18-20 kms rode on highway at constant speed of 58-60
Rest in city mostly in 2-3 gears.
                            1st reserve at 52kms.
Put fuel cock in reserve for 5-10 seconds, then back to ON position.
                            Went another 9 kms (61Kms)
Again 5-10 seconds reserve & back to ON.
                            Went another 9 kms (70Kms)
Now bike is parked, will check how long this continues..

As per my knowledge the bike cannot run for 9 kms (In city traffic in 2-3 gears alone) in the petrol that is fed to engine between 5-10 seconds from reserve-on-reserve position.
Also it is outrageous to expect a mileage of 61 or 70 from the bike.
Then the dilemma is how to calculate the mileage.

Firstly filling 1.03 ltr and checking mileage will never help calculating so called R to R method, Then there is a bug called false reserve,in ur case ...
Some time filling 1.03 for 6 to 7 times then calculate the average ,May be u get approx figure...
200ml test by SC thru can, provide a some what clear picture of ur mileage or else tankfill till brim level and fill it again say after 5 days or so after running ur bike for 200km ....
I am do it now ,here so much of rain so i filled 10 days ago drive so far 189km...i will refill when it reach 200km...The past 10 days are so cold due rain , so possibility of vaporization is less..Due to this cold weather my bike running very silent

Petrol in my place costs around 58 rupees. So i filled 60rs petrol. Hence, 1.03ltr.

I don't want a accurate figure, appx will do.
I am not too sure about the 200ml test by SC as
Firstly, they do not ride the bike that well.
Secondly, How much petrol is left in engine. Only 200ml is used from outside, but there might be still some petrol left in the engine.
Thirdly, 200ml is quite less a amount to establish a real mileage (I think)

I have tried filling the tank full, the problem is i am not sure when the tank is full, as the tank has sometimes gulped 21 or more litres. So even skeptical about that.

The question is after hitting resrve-on-reserve, how much kms the bike should ideally go if it is a true reserve
