I am not too sure about the 200ml test by SC as
Firstly, they do not ride the bike that well.
Secondly, How much petrol is left in engine. Only 200ml is used from outside, but there might be still some petrol left in the engine.
Thirdly, 200ml is quite less a amount to establish a real mileage (I think)

I have tried filling the tank full, the problem is i am not sure when the tank is full, as the tank has sometimes gulped 21 or more litres. So even skeptical about that.

The question is after hitting resrve-on-reserve, how much kms the bike should ideally go if it is a true reserve
    21 Litres???
I thought the specs said only 15.5 L capacity, why would they keep the original specs soooo low????
If not, then might be the petrol pump is cheating with you.....

    • Baby Hippo Rocks

Hey guys am back after a long hibernation

      Had gone onsite to US/Germany
It was gr8 there and also a mighty learning experience about biking culture.
These last five days since coming back, was going through our entire forum and " multiple personality " issues and also am mad about modifying my bike, so that it wears the S logo and initials GS-R with greater pride....

BTW my baby hippo () though being of the initial 09 lot, has not faced any #&*$? issues except for the "multiple personality" syndrome...

Thanks to my nephew who drove my bike during my absence (die-hard Busa fan) my ODO now reads: 25320 kms (I left it at 17K)

      >> "multiple personality" syndrome has advanced to a "prolonged" multiple personality syndrome with 95% being +ve ie. super smooth for months
      >> He has changed to Motul 3000 and swears by it... He changed oil (like me with Castrol P1) at every service

      >> When hippo is in bad mood, u feel fast deceleration and lethargic acceleration and slight vibes (but hippo vibes is equal to Hunk/Pulsar smoothness )
      >> Excellent built quality as apart from chain/disc creeking, no other rattles though my nephew rides it as a dirt bike on bad roads

      >> Mighty happy to have this and it will be my hippo until i get GSX750R hopefully
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw: Great to see Sam9r back...it was based on his review that i booked my GS (2nd in Kerala I believe after a cine actor)
      >> Kudos to mach50/MSN1/anupdas/maestro/Akfara keeping this thread active and intellectually entertaining

      • Tank Rust

        Hi guys,

My bike is almost 1 month old. I received message from Sc that your bike is due for 1st service, please come and get the service done..

Moreover the date which they mentioned is 3 days less than the actual date which I took it..
I have only 490 Kms on my Odo.. Sholud I wait until i reach 700 kms.. It may take a couple of weeks..
The issues which I noticed are

        1. Rust inside the mouth of petrol tank(Shock of my life when i noticed today morning)
        2. Sound from joints(backside)
        3. I don't find any light blinking to change the gear even in eco/power
        4. mileage varies randomly
        5. I got a small scratch in the doom of my bike.. Will they change it free of cost..

The 1st one makes me really sad when I see the rust inside the tank..

Please guys help me with this.. If you guys advice me to give the bike for service today..I can do that

Also since I have only 490 kms, will they change the oil??

        • My Suzuki Revelation Abroad

          My Suzuki Revelation Abroad

While in India the normal guy tends to see suzuki/honda as basically car manufacturers with some bikes being manufactured here and abroad...
and here Yamaha is considered as true biker brand...

During my time in US tried to learn all about their bike culture, go on rides with buddies...

          Revelation :
          1. Suzuki/Honda are highly admired & respected brands esp: Suzuki among newbie biker enthusiasts
          2. The Busa is a sales phenomenon there and is always The Most LOVED/ENVIED/ADMIRED/RESPECTED 1L+ Bike by all EVER

While talking to a Tech guy at CA SPeedway, he frankly says Yamaha makes bikes that are not practically feasible as everyday superbike
Suzuki, he says makes the most beautiful bikes with some of the best engines ever, and they can be ridden like magic on streets or racetrack...

This guy with almost 24 years experience as "Performance Engineer" says a Suzuki bike is anyday better as an everyday Superbike against other similar bikes...and with lesser issues.
          >> I told him about our GS150R and its top speed of ~110 Mp...Kph He was like What the heck are you talking Man
          >> He also does not understand our "multiple personality " syndrome and says we have not driven bikes enough ...True

When I simply asked what superbike can be driven through traffic jams and racetracks:
His answer was simply " Any Suzuki bike esp: Hayabusa or GSX1000R "...He says they are the "ultimate symbol of Raw power with On/Off switch"
He even compelled me to try a Hayabusa saying it is SAFEST superbike to drive

          AND I DID:
          >> I DID DRIVE the BUSA at ~100 kmph in 6th gear for almost 10 mins in pit lane...
          >> The Most Exhilirating experience ever...Its Truly feels like a large hippo but once you drive, ITS FEELS COMPLETE part of You...
          >> The Engine was bassy and purring (the rpm was never more than 3K, and i jumped to 6th gear by 65 itself...silky smooth shift: 0 Vibs)
          >> Was in Mode C and still felt as if I am on a floating Cloud with a thunderstorm energy between my legs
          >> Suzuki should give each one of us a ride in Busa: One got to experience the feel of supressed Busa Agression

Frankly any biker I met and asked about superbiking: Gixxer was high up for Refined Agression & Busa for Pinnacle of Engineering

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw, i chanced upon a used 2006 GSX750R owned by an Indian buddy
He says he will sell it to me for ~2.5 lakhs once he brings it to India by next year...It looked well maintained
          Keeping my fingers crossed

I now genuinely feel, our GS150R exhibits these same Suzuki traits of all-round performance and build quality
And for anyone who complains that GS is huge and " difficult" to cut through traffic...
Just think that this baby hippo is training you to mount the bigger hippos...whatever named they be. Cheerios

1> Just wipe it with a cloth and I am sure it would disappear
Spray liberally with WD40/RustLick...4get Rust worries
2> But am sure it was discussed and feasible resolution arrived at by anupdas
3> Eco ~ 4.5K & PWR ~6K...It Should blink provide You have Mode set
4> Tune as Mach50 said somewhere and try to use mix of 50% Normal petrol + 50% Xtra Premium (works gr8 for me till now)
            5: Dunno

I would advise you to always change Oil/Oil FIlter at EVERY service
I have never used SS/FS oils and would never use it...
Rather I would replace with 20W40 mineral oil at every service/interval ...
Its not that expensive and you can feel engine gradually becoming super refined and hi-revving as ODO piles up...

Got an used GS till its 2011 model comes up in the city, and to practice riding 150cc class of bikes.
The bike really rocks, the performance is just awesome, crosses 60kmph in just 2nd gear, the acceleration is perfect in each gear(except for the 6th which I usually engage after 110), and somehow had a wheelie at the speed of 40 which I didn't intended to do, but happened purely coz of the too much availability of torque through the transmission when I foolishly released the clutch.....

Only 4 GS are there in my city(which I come to know from the dealer) and I haven't even heard of this bike till I went to the showrooms for test driving whatever they've got(I don't watch Television), and fell in love for this bike...
Now can understand why you guys keep saying about its performance and engine. Even though the test drive vehicle got beyond 130, but the one that I have didn't crossed 124 in the city(will b testing high speed on highway soon)(also seems like we get higher top speeds with 5th gear than 6th gear)

If you guys have any special tricks to tell about speeding, then please help, all replies are welcomed.....

Also one thing I would like to say about mileage, its not getting over 50 kmpl even on the highway(don't blame my riding technique, I didn't revved it on the highway or any point during the mileage testing phase, thats why I didn't drove it to top speed even when I was on highway), so if anyone can enlighten me in regard to mileage then please do it coz it will soon start cutting holes in my pocket if it would be like that....

Also seems like the chain is a bit loose(gives a cranking noise whenever I pull the clutch for changing gears i.e. whenever the chain is freely suspended), anyone know how to tighten it or will I have to go to the service center?
dude......those are not high speeds but are ultra high speeds......and the roads out there in rajasthan are just made to test the top speeds....but do WEAR the RIDING GEAR and try contenting yourself.....127 on odo is practical but 130 something is only for a blink of second while 147 on centre stand is possible.....

ride safe bro.....dont endanger lives of yourself and others....
for mileage if you are doing 60 something in 2nd gear then you are redlining and that will affect you in long term.....when you redline the fuel burnt is the most.........drive cautiously between 50-60kmph on highway(i know its so difficult to restrict ourselves to that)....give a smooth acceleration and decelleration and i am sure you'll get somewhere near 55+...

specs dont mention the max but they mention the optimum....i tried with the 15ltr+5ltr can and it filled to the mouth.....(Dont put the bike on side stand if you are filling anything above 17-18ltrs)

they must have messaged you as a reminder....200kms must not take more than a week or two!!!i think you should get it serviced......
              1:amitine mentioned the solution
2:its just the bolt problem so lubricating it will remove the noise
3:you must be driving in GOD mode or you must not be crossing the 4.5k or 6k mark on tacho

Its because the fuel indicators at the pump are tampered
GSR's tank capacity is 15.5ltrs main+ 3.1ltrs reserve = 18.6ltrs tank in all as per the specs.
Now that size is approximate and non calibrated, increase on either off specs may render it a 20Ltr at best.

Wow you got to ride the Busa on emptier streets and on the other end of the world, you are really lucky !!!
I got to ride it in my own city only though ...........a rich pal of mine has it,its all black and the 2008 model.I tell you Hayabusa is also absolute delight to ride in daily start stop traffic..........we just need to avoid putting it through the smallest space available in a jam just like we do with our GSR or everyday bikes, because, the Busa has huge turning radius and footing it around can be an issue. If we treat it like a car,it wont complain of slow speeds, except the FE would go down drastically returning only 11kmpl.
Then just as the Busa got on the NH,I rode it past 170kmph easily, third gear was all it needed to decimate those high nosed four wheelers who thought that they can speed as they like.It was a delightful feeling as I flashed lights asking an Optra Magnum to kindly leave the lane at over 150kmph ....and on Indian roads it was an absolute ecstasy...........the thrid gear can carry speeds till 275kmph.But honestly speaking crossing 200kmph on Indian motorways is not at all safe and at times can be impossible,we dont have well guarded freeways here,an ocassional cyclewala, cattle herd and a truck taking u-turn with 18wheelers changing lane without indicators can be hazardous.

The A-mode on Hayabusa is unnerving,it pulls wheelies on being given even a moderate whack with exceeding 180kmph in 2nd gear only !!!!
B-mode is all it requires to live the appropriate fun in India.

Having ridden the BMW S1000RR in Switzerland and Autobahn too,I understand that the 1ltr BMW is marginally faster in acceleration than the Busa, but I dint fell secure on it...........all I need is a Hayabusa and the Autobahn.........boom,I will smoke an accelerating Veyron

Big bikes feels totally out of this world when it comes to acceleration and top speeds in comparison to our daily rides, but the only thing that connects all Suzuki products is the quality and relaibility and the uber strong feel of the bikes as if built to endure the End of the World too

Coming down to business, these days my bro is enjoying the rides as I usually take my car for the office ...... but there is usually not even a single day that passes without me riding GS, even if its to the near by local market ...

"True words" even if u go for four wheel ,Suzuki wins in reliability ,In stone age it was IND-SUZUKI Bike,Then Came Suzuki fiero, even now some of them running 1.5k on odo without much hole in pocket. We have to wait for somebody to tell stories abt our GS 150 after 1.5k

@ sam Being a old GS Owner and Trouble free bike means, its not Trouble free for All...And most important, Only 20 percent of whole GS owners ,here we are sharing our joys and sorrows of GS150 In NET ,rest are from villagers and non computer users, and then not aware of this forum to express their feelings ..
                        .
What ever complaints reported in these forum, i copied and pasted in suzuki website feedback section as Our MADHU did for someone to help

But we need japanese(suzuki japan) to hear all this, which not possible in current scene,And its difficult to learn Japanese too
Well I have not been too regular here, but if I interpret you correctly you are saying that GS have been a trouble some bike for more people than its trouble free ............. well as long as I have participated in this thread, I always had a feeling that 8/10 people (even if there are just 20% participants) are having a trouble free experience ............ members down here correct me if I am wrong .....

Yes sam ur correct I agree ,even if u go thru the previous threads ,except few(me included) ,All feels its trouble free, except few hiccups like chain loose , Rust in tank mouth ,Gear shifting hard, false reserve, so on so etc....
My point is ....we don't have idea about others who owns a GS and not in this forum....are not using net, may be GS is their first Bike....
A clear picture is suzuki itself introduced a 2010 model for what.????
To accept there is some trouble in few batches of 2009 models....eg is Joshi he got full money back......My intension is to give hands to those feel their bike have trouble, and need assistance from fellow GS owners, thats what happening in these thread with ANUP,MADHU,MACH50....and You

                          • Nice to see you back Sam . It was your review which made me go for GS. I have done 10500 km in 11 months and completed 6 services.

Ever since buying GS, it has become a part of me (Still badly in love with her). No troubles so far, except for the vibration from the fairing.

I honestly feel that the accessories provided is cheap in quality. The sari guard showed some tints of rusting. Today removed the sari guard used an emery paper to remove the rust and painted it. The chain cover also showed some tint of rusting, (heavy rainfall this year ) found it during chain lubrication.

I would advice everyone to remove the lower chain cover every two months and look for signs of rusting. Water gets into it while regular washing and it together with dirt will enhance rusting. Use kerosene to remove the the grease and dirt to avoid rusting.

                            @ Amitine

You are one lucky fellow to have ridden BUSA and meeting that professional tuner. The one and only reason I would go abroad is to ride a liter class bike to its maX.

In my place a rich lad have this hippo (and a CBR too), my heart skipped a beat when it passed me like I was stand still.

                              Hi

This is my first mail in xbhp.As i have no rights right now to put my question on thread so i ask you and need personal opinion. Today i have got a chance to buy a GS 150R from another person. The bike was purchased on April2010 and run only 5150kms with 2 free service availed.I am from mumbai. Today Dolphin auto, Asalpha has quote me 70,600/-.I am getting this for 56000/-.The bike has no scratch at all and in as new condition.I have few queeries.

                              1. Should i go with the deal?

                              2. Does this one from April2010 has the refined engine from the one that is mentioned in (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...ip-experiences) at the launch of the bike?

                              3. This model is complete Red / orange in colour not the one i have seen today with fuel tank red/ orange and black on back.

Kindly guide me , so that i could buy a better bike.

                              Thanks & Regards

                              Pradip
My opinion is not to choose a second hand bike for the following reasons.
                              1. We dont know how the previous owner might have ridden the bike.
                              2. Why anyone would sell a new bike?(except for urgent money )
                              3. The bike seems to be a 2009 batch (as its full candy orange)

If someone trustworthy can vouch how the bike was ridden and maintained, the offer can be considered.

The seller here is a 38 year old banker who brought this bike for his daily commute....he's promoted and is leaving for us....so he needs to sell it.....he has taken care of her in every respect and according to pradip he rides her nicely......the only question keft in his mind was refinement of 2009model.....to which i will be personally paying a visit to him on 15....any more things to check out?????
