+ I met with an accident a couple days after getting my bike. Silencer and brake pedal were replaced. The insurance guy tells me he is deducting some percentage from the covered amount as 'salvage' and Im supposed to pick up the destroyed vehicle parts from the SC so I can sell it to scrapyard or do whatever with it. I ask at SC and they say they have gotten rid of it. WTF????? I thought all this time that those parts were insurance property.

In three days I have done ~300kms which was mainly in highways and returned good mileage figures(ECO mode), 59 Kmpl (ridden mostly between 4-4.5K) .
After tightening the chain and filling the tires(25 & 32 Psi), there was an increase of 4 Kmpl
It is a good mileage. Try to get more than 60. Change that ‘mostly’ to 'always'. That will do.
If everyone is like you – going fine without problems – what else have us in common to discuss?
The service camp is from 16th to 18th this month. I hope that I will be able to discuss the common problems in general and AKFARA’s problems in particular with them. I think it will be better to take a print out of his postings and give it to them.
When next time you go for a long ride, take a star-cut screw driver with you and adjust the visor screws. Try to tighten the screws to the maximum without breaking the visor. Be patient as you may have to stop and adjust many times. (Neglect the ridiculing looks and comments from others or borrow a blue workshop shirt from someone.) Thus you can adjust the visor vibration free.
I was fed up with the sc mechanics and done it myself. Now it is vibration free up to 90 kmh and I am not courageous enough to go beyond that speed. Poor me!
Thanks for your guideline for posting pictures. I was planning to post the images of tappet, valve, piston, cam shaft etc. of our bike. Among these, the tappet is the most infamous.

@pavan_cin: Im also nearly the same as you man i.e. bike is almost 2 months old, 1000 chilre on odo, but mileage is letdown. So, it'll be useful to keep comparisons between the both of our experiences.
It seems like ~42-43 in pwr for you. Ill wait for r2r post.
@ anupdas: Will try to keep cool man. This is the first time the SC is mileage tuning mine. I know the service manager fairly well. So, hoping for the best. But I cant make out any difference in throttle response after tuning compared to earlier. So, I also have my doubts on this. Id prefer to tune it myself and I will, following your and mach50's tips, if 2 or 3 attempts of this doesnt work out. SC owes me that much atleast. Its unbelieveble how many people claim 55 + without eco mode in city driving. My showroom had a customer feedback board and almost all of those has mileage claim above 50. They must be all uncles or liars if this is the way the gadi actually behaves in factory setting.
+ I know the urge to ride like ghostrider on this gaadi is unbelievable.
Just today I had a traffic signal drag against a p180 and Im surprised that I held my ground on the straights and just owned him in corners.
Maybe he might have been a wimpy rider but Id rather give benefit of the doubt to our GSR. And this was in no mode, not exceeding 6k rpm in any gear.
++ On the same note, there is definitely a marked difference between pwr and no mode, atleast on my gaadi. Maybe you find no difference because your tuning might be that way?? Ive ridden on the same patch of road and between the same distance in both modes just to test it and its definitely faster in pwr mode than no mode. Its noticeable in the initial acceleration itself and also the engine sound becomes shrill in pwr mode. Its so much fun in pwr.
I feel good difference between modes...like easy, normal and hard modes in videogames for eco, nomode and pwr.
I'll look out for pwr mode mileage.
@rskk89: Never heard of iridium in carburettor. There are iridium spark plugs.
Just tell SC what the problem is. No need to lie unless youre dealing with insurance.

The test was done over 8.2 kms. So, not frequent but few stops spread over that distance is not a cause for big drop in mileage, is it? The speed was more or less fluctuating between 35-60 for the majority of the test and gear shifting was not too frequent. Yes there was pillion. Dont ask me his weight. So can we consider a loss of around 3-4 kmpl? Even then, 45-46 kmpl is not very impressive considering that many people claim 50+ in city driving with no mode.Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostIn the test, you started the bike and shifted to 1st gear, then 2nd and so on to 6th gear, stopped a few times, repeated all the gear shifting and got a mileage of 42 kml. That too with a pillion rider. How much more do you expect to get in this condition? No mode or yes mode doesn’t matter.
While discussing about mileage all of us are – at least I am – mentioning single man riding without frequent stops and starts and that too being the major portion of the ride out of city or town.
No, I mean the insurance company is deducting a certain amount from my payable amount. this 'salvage' amount is deducted because the insurance man expects me to pick up the destroyed part and do as I wish with it including selling it as scrap and so, probably calculating the maximum amount which that piece might sell for, he is deducting as 'salvage'. Now, Im told by sc that they have gotten rid of the parts. So, what has that left me with?To the best of my knowledge, the spare parts replaced under insurance belong to the insurance company. In major replacements, the valuation officers of the company may take the replaced parts with them. Neither you nor the service centre has any right on it. Then why are you bothered about its sale? The insurance company has paid its cost to you. Let any of them take it.
Yes WTF means exactly that.
'Pissed off' is american slang for very angry or irritated and its by no means a polished or hitech language as you
"lowly villagers" might assume.
You might say 'uski maa !#@$$', 'teri ke @#%@' and I might say what Ive said. A rose is a rose by any other name.
So, who is lying here and which is the unpleasant truth? We 'polished' suit-boot, jeans-t shirt refined oil city fellows are blissfully ignorant of our mother and her tongue. please enlighten us.

Dear Venu, Balaji and Arun,
Merely replacing the head light bulb with a 55/60 watt bulb will not give tangible improvement in light. The head light coil in the magneto must be re-winded by an experienced auto electrician. The RR unit also must be replaced. Otherwise, the result will be a more yellowish light as the bulb is not getting enough current to brighten fully. The light produced will be like that produced by a 35/35 watt bulb connected to a 12 Volt 2.5 ampere supply or so. Further, if we supply necessary current to the bulb, the heat produce may, I am not sure, spoil the reflector of our bike.
As magneto coil is re-winded and the electrical connections are modified, the warranty will be null and void.
If you prefer to change the bulb, the former method will be better. But is it worth?
I have tried a lot with a damaged head light assembly taken from the service centre and trying with different bulbs. All in vain.
Love.

@ Vishnu
I will try to ride "always" than "mostly", but when I ride in that range it feels like I'm spoiling her with over care. I have read in xBhp itself that 35W HID kit is working fine without much battery drainage. animeher please commend on this.
PS: I'm looking forward to your update from the japs
.
@ Ram
I think you misunderstood me
, I do feel a difference between modes. Sivakumar once mentioned its the ignition timing that is different in both modes. Usually the spark plug is fired when the piston reaches the top dead centre. In order to make sure all fuel is burned the ignition can be advanced just before it reaches the TDC. But this set up works best in lower rpm, at higher rpm since the combustion process starts before the piston reaches the top there will be a back pressure thus reducing the efficiency which is quite noticeable as engine vibrations.
GS can definitely deliver 50+ mileage in city conditions with a pillion. But engine does take lot of time to settle to get a consistent mileage.Last edited by Anupdas; 12-15-2010, 03:29 AM.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

@ anupdas: I was referring to your comment on the pwr and nomodes being one and the same. Maybe I missed the context and still am. nevermind.
Im scared to wait long enough for the engine to settle down. Im full paranoid as it is now thinking up all kinds of conspiracies the Sc might be capable of......
. On my part, I try to drive the best, short of uncle mode.

Connected my pilot lamps to DC (using 2 mtr wire from tail lamp)
Have to go and buy pilot lamps (LED) and a good head lamp bulb
have to search at j c road this week
my last petrol filling was 16.68 ltrs (7 days back)
traveled 750 kms (still on main)
approx mileage is 45 kmpl
am happy because 60% to 70 % of the time the passenger(s) weight is close to or around 150 Kg

those who facing mileage issue:
try the 100 ml bottle test and tuning as its better than CO2 testing as CO2 is not real time method.
always make sure the engine is not struggling if it struggles it will drink more petrol, this can be detected and corrected on the spot by just listening to the engine sound and response.
the golden screw default is 2.5 turns from complete close and the default rpm is 1200 or 1300 in cold start and 1400 or 1500 rpm warm (hot)
moreover mileage relies on various other factors
they are
>> Engine Oil level, brand and quality
>> tire pressure
>> running environment
>> usage pattern (your driving style some are known for driving with back break or too much use of clutch)
@ 2strokerama which SC you are going to SC Name please
am in to the millers road suzuki, their are sick and lazy guys there (yeah crazy guys as well) tell the supervisor he will fix it all.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity
Currently Using Gusto |Enfield Bullet 500 | Ecosport Titanium+ Diesel

Anup, i agree that GS doesn't provide required power to nightbreaker to make it fully glow, but yet rather than meddling with dynamo coil, battery, alternator initially in the warranty period, nightbreaker with 10 W load-shedding in the form of pilot lamp dc conversion is the best method i think.Originally posted by Anupdas View Post@ Venu

If you happen to get Osram Silverstar, thats really well and good(180-200 Rs.). But I searched everywhere, only managed to get nightbreaker

If you put 700-850 rs nightbreaker, plus convert pilot lamps to DC, you get additional 10 watts. If you are frequent night rider, then this is the best available option. My half of daily bike ride is in the night, that too in highway, so i tried this option, with around 30 % increase in the light, am very happy in the increase in low beam.
I am thinking to convert to HID, only after warranty period is over, that too with projector to minimize the glare all within legal framework.sigpic

@msn1:
> my engine oil level is perfectly in the middle. gulf pride 4t 20w40.
> tire pressure always up and over the required - 25\35.
> running condition and driving style as mentioned in my earlier posts. I have a tendency to use more back brake.
+what do you mean by engine struggling? I never ride higher speeds in lower gears or lower speeds in higher gears.
My SC is saptagiri suzuki showroom attached SC on Rajkumar road just before the signal towards sujata talkies and majestic if youre approaching from yeshwantpur direction. I can vouch for the service manager being a good and analytical man who runs things fairly well, but I cant say the same for the people who work under him or his superiors. I was actually considering airport road SC for any major work on my gadi, which I heard was the best of the lot in bangalore.Last edited by 2strokerama; 12-15-2010, 12:13 PM.
