I have not converted the bike to full DC in the true sense. It involved quite some work, and I couldn't find any mech trustworthy to do it. I just connected the battery cable coming to headlight to power the speedo and indicators to the cable connecting the headlamp and pilot lamps. This just means that now the headlamps and pilot lamps are now operated by battery. But battery discharge rate is matched by the charging rate only when the RPM is above 4-4.5k rpm (this was true for Unicorn, I assume it to be true for GS as well). So when in traffic, I use pilot lamps only, and for speed riding above 4.5k rpm, I use HIDs. My battery is still holding up, despite of many long night rides!

If you have done the 2nd servicing at 3 months, then next comes after some 50-60 days. Stick to days even if the running is low. If running between two consecutive services is less than 1500/2000, ask them not to change the oil. But don't skip the services.

Hey guys,
Need some help about fairing. Since I'm a tourer, I think its necessary for me to get my bike faired, esp for the mirror viewing radius. I think pulsar 220 is the best fit. Though I have a blue bike. I might change the tank to black and go for it. I like the 220 lights as well. Is it possible to change the whole setup. How much would it cost.?
I saw some one saying it costs 9k. Any comments? All peace Bro. xD

I tour on a faired bike (R15)&can say confidently that they are worst affected by cross winds. I would suggest-stick to your bike as it is.Originally posted by ElectricGoat View PostHey guys,

If you into touring by night&are keen on projectors, animeher has retrofitted a projector&has also put up a thread, you can go for that.
Oh yeah, GS mirrors are way better than P220's-you can only see your biceps in 220's mirrors.
Quench my thirst with gasoline!

connecting pilot lamps to DC
Am the one posted the 20 rupees solution for connecting pilot lamps to DC
I feel that's the best way as it still works good for me
1. Buy a good electric wire approx length is the length of your bike
2. Go to a local mechanic and ask him to connect pilot lamps to DC by taking a connection from the tail lamp (tail lamp not the break light)
That's it.

I bought it for 43 k and after 10 yrs sold out for 22 k.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Today my friends were comparing my bike with pulsar and other bikes in the parking and they said "Bhai ye toh monster bike lagti hai"
.
And the other friend said "Tere gadi ke samne to Unicorn bhi jhak marati hai."
Love my GS.. :-)
Sorry for the use of regional and abusive language.

Idle RPM
What should be the idle RPM for a new GS and also for later on?
I want to know u guys' preferences not the company specified one.
Mine is at 1.5k rite now, is it ok to keep changing it or will that damage the carb?
@mayur2j
That day too i was getting lots of stares at the traffic, i guessed because my bike was new but then again their were couple of new dazzlers rite next to me
and those dazzler guys were also starring at my bike
Also at the petrol pump a teenager asked "naya bike?" i said yes "imported hai kya??" i was like
and replied "haan Japan se hai". I assumed he had less interest in bikes.

warm or hot should be between 1300 to 1600 RPM [after driving close to 10 kms or 20 minutes which ever occurs earlier]Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

I want to do the same....so as you said....it is the best way to buy a wire and connect the pilot lamps from the tail light...
By the tail light you mean the light above the number board or the red tail light which is on....when we are not using the brake....???
So will any mechanic do it...beacuse here in Hyd I am not sure of anybody who is a good mechanic...

first go to mechanic discuss with him he will tell you the wire type needed for this {with any electrical wire we can do it but having a good one is safer bet}Originally posted by Guru_007 View PostMadhu Bhai....thanks for the info on changing the pilot lamps to DC....

its the red tail light which is on while you are not using the break and it even in on state if you just turns on only the pilot lamp
its not the number plate lightLast edited by MSN1; 02-18-2011, 02:09 PM.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

For giving more power to bulb, you need to either remove pilot lamps, or convert them to DC. If you convert only the pilot lamps to DC, no need to convert them to LED because anyways they will draw light from battery.
Ani...thanks for the info....as you said i will first convert the pilot lamps to DC....I got some tips from Madhu bhai also...
So if I convert the Pilot Lamps to DC....Will I be able to fit the silverstar without any extra modification or problem right...???
I just wanted to use the LED for the pilot because I like that bright white light....
One person Sooraj wh owns a GS has done the same...and it looks awsome...so I wanted to put the LED's....

I have not fitted the projectors, only fitted HIDs. The projector job is still pending, on the look out for broken GS headlight!
