    • oil filter strainer screen query

hey guys..In the manual, it mentions the oil filter strainer screen in the periodic maintenance chart to be cleaned. But when i opened the engine case at the mechanic, there was no such strainer screen. Could someone confirm this.

Also I think sooraj is using the new P220 bulb.

            Guru,
We are considering the possibility of removing the pilot lamps from AC and connecting it to DC, hoping that we will get more current for the headlight.
As far as I know, the current for these two are supplied through 2 separate taps or circuits in the RR unit. Removing the load from one cannot increase the current in the other. Thus the maximum current it can supply and the current to the headlight remains the same.
Osram night breaker and silver star are 55-60 watts bulbs which you can fit without any modification. You may perhaps get a very slight increase in the pale yellow light it produces. Those who have tried it have mistaken it as the result of removing pilot lamps from the AC.
Hence, as Madhu suggested, consult the workshop supervisor or an experienced Suzuki service center mechanic before you proceed.
Pulsar 220 is a full DC bike, with a 55 watt projector as low beam and 55 watt high beam. Neither of them can be fitted in our bike successfully. If you fit a 35 watt or 55 watt HID to our battery, it will soon drain unless major part of your rides is in daylight. In that case too, if you happen to go for a long trip in the night, you cannot trust the headlight.
The coils of other bikes which produce more current (Avenger, Pulsar etc.) are not direct fit to our bike. So, the only solution seems to be rewinding and replacing the rr.
Let us hope we can find out a solution very soon. I too am trying.

Thanks for ur concern br...My bike in pondy left it 2 days back...The SC told me its Tappet noise from my bike Since my town is unfit to do service ,I left my bike for paid service and engine kill switch replaced under warranty...I told not to replace engine oil ,as i recently 2months back and 14600km only i changed my engine oil(Mobil super 4T 20w 40)(current odo1400km after oil change i.e 16000km)...The color is still pure yellow means still it has viscosity...
                I see a oil MAK4T plus 20w 40 with jasmo2 API at bharat petroleum..is it good?..
In my place best oil is GULF pride 4T plus 20w 40 Jasmo2 API...But this time i plan to go for castrol power1 15w 40 ,Ur also praising it much...i used it before but i know it last long 1500km to 2000km..Its ok If i found a genuine pack from distributor in my town....
As i get delivery 2 morrow ,They will do a True CAN test for 200ml for mileage...When i drive pondycherry i put 3 ltr after reserve which includes 11 km local ride i town before i go pondycherry ,so it runs without hitting reserve and the trip shows me 150km means the bike returns me 50 plus or 60 plus unsure...I drive consistent 4.5krpm throughout the journey ...near pondy saw a GS 2009 model and stopped him and compare my engine sound with him(a village man with 30,500km on odo) its similar ..So Tappet noise may be ...He told he is getting 60kmpl in local and 65kmpl in highway drive
He told me he is not happy with PONDY SC itself ...as they charge every service 1000Rs mentioning so many parts replaced
One query should i go for synthetic oil like Castrol Power1 racing 10w 40 ....My Bore and piston replaced at 13800km....Should i wait for another 10,000km..????? With oil filter i need 1000ml or 1100ml as the bottle avail in 1 ltr only and cost 795Rs....

To be frank, i never tried that.... Guys help him yaar.....

Br..... this is just for information do not take it personally or am not discouraging you from doing whatever so....
SVC people have to do the periodic maintenance activity (periodic maintenance is part of the scheduled service), if you are changing oil and filter just do it with the help of local mechanic; but till warranty expires don't let the local mechanic to do all those core part troubleshooting or fixing as its against warranty terms

too many cooks will spoil the br..... so ride happy and in case of doubt ask us

But why did you or the mechanic open the engine case? Was there any problems in the engine?

                      Abdul Khadar,
If the color of the oil remains pure yellow after 1400 kms, it is not a good oil because the color should darken after 350-400 kms.
I have not praised any oil, including Power 1. I have used it for a very long time; that is all.
Synthetic oils are not for ordinary bikes. In long run, it will make damage to some engine parts. More than that, you will not get any notable gain in performance or mileage. So, it is better to not use it.
I haven’t used any oil except Castrol power 1 for the last few years. So I cannot comment on any other oil. Let us hope the others will give their suggestions.
Though I am using 1000 ml oil, please refer page 6-23 and 9-24 of the owner’s manual. You can pour 1000 ml or 1100 ml, as you like. I don’t think this 100 ml will be significant.
Hope all the problems of you bike – if there is any – will be solved this time.

If we remove the 3 small nuts, we will get the strainer. It is a metallic filter for filtering bigger debris in the oil. As we have another filter, its cleaning is not inevitable. But if someone likes to clean it, let them do.

Anyhow, Power 1 semi-synthetic is a good oil. Try it.
i do agree with you on this but synthetic wont spoil the bike and it wont do anything much better for the bike, but under long term use is like a drug addict who ill became lazy and feels down if drug is not in stock [even if the bike runs fine the biker wont like the response and sound after switching from FS to mineral]
moreover availability of synthetic oil is limited and its heavy to your pockets.

Abdhul bhai i used the power 1 once felt bad and changed it after 700 kms as engine feels tooo rough. [may be the one i got was duplicate ], and do not go synthetic now as your Bikes B & P is still new cross 10k with the new B & P then think about FS

                          • Guys, this bike just rocks !!!! My GS is 9 months old. And am loving my bike. I will state the various pros and cons observed by me.

                            PROS:
6 gears gives a smooth ride, can even go in 30kmph in the 6 th gear, less knocking at low speeds compared to other bikes, comfortable ride always, Decent mileage(gives me 40km/l now, but people who often use 6th gear get more than 60km/l mileage), Engine balancer technology ensures smooth ride, MOST IMPORTANT : there is no vibration in high speeds. I have driven pulsar, apache and cbz xtreme. Of these, apache starts vibrating at speeds nearing 75 where as pulsar and cbz are better but not as good as GS, GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR-not present in any other bike, there is a white LED which glows to indicate the gear shift-up ie,PERFECT SHIFT which improves mileage and engine life as well, MODES-there are 3 modes, ECONOMY,POWER and GOD mode.Initially I thought that the modes were not of much use(like in scooty pep where speeds above 60 LED glows in power and below 60 LED glows in economy) but after driving the bike I knew the difference. In ECO pick up is less and the ride is very soft and gear shift indicator indicates at 4500rpm and in POWER ride is bit more aggressive than ECO and gear shifts are at 6000rpm. The variation in fuel flow to the engine defines the modes. I came to know of the GOD mode through a blog. Am yet to try it out.

                            CONS:
Less service centers, VERY LESS MARKETING(Do you know that this is the BIKE OF THE YEAR 2010 ??? Out of all the top bikes which competed in the 160cc segment, GS was chosen as the best. In the 180cc segment, new 180cc apache won it. I knew that GS was the Bike of the Year only after booking my bike !!! ), weight-could have been a few kg's lesser, bike is MUSCULAR-NO DOUBT but could have been made more SPORTY(looks) as well(like apache and pulsar),varying mileage

                            OVERALL:
To my opinion, this bike is best. Initially when I was about to buy this bike, my friends ridiculed me. Even I was hesitant to book this bike. Only after test driving it I made up my mind to buy it. Now even my friends love to ride my bike and they envy me !! AT LAST : THIS IS THE SMOOTHEST BIKE I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. . . AND the most feature rich 150cc in the market..! ! ! one heck of a bike. . . .
AM SIMPLY LUVING EVERY MOMENT WITH MY LANZA. . .

I've some queries, which need answers from you, the experience guys.

Today I've noticed that my bike is not getting started by using the Kicker. Even by using the chok, it is not working. But no problem when self start used. My first service was done 3-4 days before. Do I need to take this to the SC guys to fix it? Another problem noticed is, after starting the bike and kept the accelerator in idle state, my bike is producing some sound and
going off. Is it a normal thing or a problem need to solve?(I didn't find this problem with my brothers Unicorn)

Almost all people advices to use kickers when you take bike for the first time in a day. What is the logic behind it. (I may be asking a silly question). What if I use self always?

                                Mighty Joe,

check out the idle on cold as well as warm (hot after riding 5 or 10 kms), the symptoms you told sounds to me like wrong idle settings issue.
yeah some will call it as knocking off or weard sound that comes in many bikes before it goes off.

a good local mechanic is able to set it right brother

its good practice to start the bike by kicker and slowly give throttle to reach 2500 rpm do it for three minutes then switch off the bike and start again.

if idle is not the culprit then take it to ASS to check carb / clutch settings
