      Excellent write up. Congratulations.

much brains, little common sense(nothing personal).
You are mistaken. Both are little and a lot of vanity and ego. This too is nothing personal.

This sound is common in every GS. You cannot get rid of it.

If the handle bar is bent, do not try to straighten it. It is better to replace it.

Not very expensive, but not cheap. You know, the front mud guard of our bike costs Rs. 1950/-. If Anup decide to replace all the damaged/scratched parts, the total cost will be more than Rs. 3600/-

      • @anup: Dont worry about the bike, those are battle scars.

Any idea how the key broke? Ive accidentally broken the keys to a flyte and a discover just from keeping them in my pant pocket while doing some load lifting. I found them quite fragile. I was hoping that wasnt the case with gs keys.

@kirtimannan: If this weather lasts any longer, it'll be good training for a trip to spiti or ladakh.

@vishnu: Vanity and ego are a common affliction among city people.....confusing self respect with ego and measuring a person's worth by appearences. Its rare to find people not bothered with such things and when you do, its probably a person actually needing a dose of those for his health's sake.

Regarding the gears....before I used to get chk sound(I used to love that), now it makes tak sound.

@lead: I went to around 115 when my bike was around 1600 kms old. Mach 50 has done higher, another guy has done around 130 on speedo, though their bikes are older. So, youre probably not revving it high enough.
Another might be that: as mentioned a couple of pages back, if your chain is loose, you might have a hard time gaining speed.....our chain tends to get loose very often. Also, if youre in PWR mode or ECO mode, there might be a restriction of top speed (Ive never tried it though).

ohh....theres nothing wrong with the bike.....when you rev hard you sometimes get 90kmph as the top speed or even 130kmph as the top speed in your sixth gear....the video you saw was with the bike on centre stand...however it goes much higher......147kmph on centre stand....i drove it around 131kmph on odo(a video coming soon)...it doesnt depend on the kms you drove....i have drove nearly 15k + kms till date including the saddlesore wherein i touched and drove at speeds of 115kmph+ constantly........a lot depends on the road conditions...then even your gear shifting rpm.....i mean you need to power shift to get those high speeds.....people say, rather even I say theres a difference in pickup of the vehicle in eco and power mode....but haven't noticed any difference in top speed though.....

A word of caution, dont drive at such high speeds until n unless you are fully geared and you know the road well..Ride safe...

It is really hurting to see bike full of scars. My friend took bike to home, today morning I rode bike to see if there is anything wrong with handling. It seems like handle bar is slightly out of alignment but rest all are intact.
I had an almost same kind of accident about a week after it bought the bike though it was my fault for going for the front brake suddenly(@45kmph). The headlight got scratched and the key broke; my low beam now is bent to about the hibeam position and the hibeam illuminates the trees. I got bruises all over too.

              • I have decided not to change the parts, as Ram said the scars will remind me of the incident. It was really an experience and taught me "Caution is never enough", be defensive for we stand a little chance if something go wrong.

I think the key is a hardened metal, it is not supposed to bend or twist and is very brittle. I dont have a spare and so cant refuel till I visit S.C. Since I took bike by EMI, they have one key, will they insist to change all 3 locks? What will the price for that?

Chiron, what did you do with key? Did the key get broke inside the lock?

You can easily bring the high beam to the bottom of the tree. Please refer page 6-52 of the user’s manual to know how to bring it down or ask the mechanic to do it.
If the metallic clip holding the headlight is bent, get it replaced. If there is any rusting on it you are lucky enough to ask for a free replacement of it.

All the 3 locks need replacement which costs above Rs. 1100/- plus labour charges. The total may be near Rs. 1500/-.

Another easier way is to get a duplicate key made by the duplicate key makers. Get the ignition key detached by the sc mechanic and approach a duplicate key maker with it, if you prefer.

My advice is to make a duplicate key now and use it until you get the original one from the financier.

But considering all the damages, I think it will be better to claim the insurance. The no-claim bonus is not a considerable large amount and you may not get it if you change the insurance company. Anyhow, before you proceed, consult the service centre manager and go on according to his advice.

Consult the sc manager tomorrow itself.

                  • @ Vishnu

I think the damages are limited to fibres and plastics. Scratches on the right side of visor, right indicator, front brake lever, crash guard and right foot peg bent, silencer cover, rear foot peg and rear side panel. I don't have a camera else would have posted an image.

The rear foot peg saved the silencer cover and the rear panel. The scratches are very minor considering the fall. Thats why I decided not to claim insurance. About the key I was thinking the same, making a duplicate key and using till I get the original. I hope the stuck key can be easily removed

I need to go to my office tomorrow and will come home only on next Saturday. Is it okay if I wait till then or should I take a leave to finish things?

@Mr Vishnu ...I am currently running on Castrol power1 15w 40..After how much KM its wise to change it..as Oil dealer telling me 3000Km ...I prefer to change at 1500km or little more....And i am running on Tank full with daily usage of 10km only ..is it the reason i may get less mileage ..whats approx km we may hit reserve after tank fill(till brim level)..even if it is error for + or - 50kms ???..
One mad question that is MY SC Mech answered me(school drop outs)..I want to keep the RPM at below 1500km at warm as i thought it will save some fuel ...But the mech told me its cold rpm is 1200(+ or -) and warm Rpm 1500 then only the bike able to returns optimum mileage as 1500rpm is key to TPS and carburetor to perform at best...Is it true..

you can also do sticker works or use a rubbing compound like the following to remove the minute scratches.

it will give good results. both rubbing compound paste or solution can be used.

                              • hey everybody..... today had gone to lonavala from mumbai (approx 105kms frm my place) the journey was gud and the roads were even better after panvel (NH4). decided to check the fuel efficieny of my bike filled the tank completely at lonavala and filled it up again when i reached mumbai the results were not gud at all i had travelled 108kms and i had to fill 200/- Rs petrol ie 3.18Litres to make the tank full again. that relates to a poor fuel efficiency of 34Kms/Ltr which is really bad.
i was riding the bike in pwr mode all the time with speeds between 75-80 Kms/hr @ 6K RPM for 85% of the time (before i met with mild traffic in mumbai)
now i m 6'3" and i weigh around 105kgs now tell me guys is this affecting the mileage of my bike or my riding the bike @ 6K rpm??? cause i need some answers here.....
my bike is 2011 GS n has done 3000kms as of today....
