when i sold out the bike it was almost 1 lakhs + kms old, used to service thebike once or twice in a year.

i uaed to tell the mehchanic to clean chain during seevicing that's it

cleaning won't cost much just use kerosine oil and paint brush to clean it, then apply only the recomended type of grease.
1 lakh km in 10 years, means 10,000 km per year.

Bike serviced twice a year along with chain clean, so chain has been cleaned 20 times in 10 years, so chain cleaned at an interval of every 5000 km, which seems to have worked well for you. Which brand chain was that?

Did you not change sprocket even once too ??

      yeah, will go with Motul if possible.. I'm also little surprised by the position of Oil filter in GS; I wonder how effective it would be in cleaning/filtering oil;

      Another question:
Does GS's drain plug has any washer ? if it has one does it need to be replaced for every oil change?

even i wondered.... but didnt came to any conclusion as have neveer got a chance to open up the engine.....
also there's no washer at drain plug, however be careful when opening that and make sure you clean it before fitting it back too....

The GS150R however is a different bike and it has lesser power to transmit. This considerably reduces chain wear. You can also note MSN1's post where he mentioned that the chain on his older and smaller capacity bike lasted for 100k+ kms.

What I mean to say is comparing the two bikes is like comparing lemons and oranges because both are round and both are juicy.
Yes, ZMA chain has to transmit more power than the splendor chain, but ZMA and splendor chain are not the same to cause in faster chain wear in ZMA.

The ZMA chain is much thicker than splendor chain. It is designed stronger to transmit that extra power.

So, like someone here said, even rash riding style can cause chain wear. Also, riding with chain adjusted too tight or too loose could result in chain and sprocket wear.

Not lubing the chain does not cause much wear to chain; it may cause just a little wear in the long run. But if chain is too tight or too loose, this can cause more chain wear, even if lubed regularly.

A properly adjusted non-lubed chain will be smoother and last longer than a regularly lubed chain which is too tight/loose.

Not lubing the chain does not cause much wear to chain.?
thats true but lubing the chain with a wrong lubricant (grade / specification) will cause earlier chain wear

            • Booked GS 150 today

              Hi friends,
Finally, i have booked new GS 150R today.
This was possible due to all of our friends in this forum and I would like to thank all of you. I was researching on various bikes since last 7 - 8 months, reading all the reviews. Initially I had various queries and doubts, after coming to this forum and going through it from last 2 months (I must have read atleast 700 thread right from starting) my mind was clear and finally zeroed down to this bike

But, i was disappointed by the dealer as he has not assured me the delivery and he expects to be within 20 -25 days but no commitment received from him

He showed me the status of last 50 booking on his mail and explained me that due to the strike in the plant production was stopped and resumed recently and so there is delay in the delivery.

Hoping to get the delivery by this month end.

Thanks to all of you once again

              Sanjay

One thing i would like to mention:

If using grease to lubricate any part of the bike, better use the white/pale yellow color grease.

Do not use the black color grease; it is not meant for bikes and becomes dry fast.

Do not use ring or double ended spanners as it may cause slipping and damaging the drain bolt. And remember to insert the filter correctly and to not over tighten any of the bolts. Apply force on the spanner using your fingers; not the palm. Check for oil leak after a few hours or after keeping it idle overnight and retighten if necessary.

It is an easy job. Go on.

Congratulations. The condition is almost same in every dealership. As he said, it is due to the last strike in the factory.

                            Congrats.

So, that strike did affect the two-wheeler division of suzuki too, as discussed earlier on this forum. Dont know why some people were trying to deny this fact.

Anyway, the strike has ended with some workers quitting and workers' union leaders taking money too as compensation. So, Suzuki can move forward now.
