Although many say that this is a non existing imaginary issue I am confidant of its presence.
Even the gear shifts have become harder..
The ODO reading is just approaching 1000km more from the last oil change.
Will go for a oil change soon this time as my next scheduled service is still month apart as I believe the oil is the culprit..
But strange that it has lost its character before 1000kms???
Ride another GS and see how it is. If the sound from your bike is different, ask the engineer at the SC to test ride your bike and rectify the problem.

1.mineral oil
2.semi synthetic oil
3.fully synthetic oil
for our GS based on ur experiences, which ll b helpful for all new users
It is always a controversial subject and the discussion about it leads to ego clashes.
As far as I know, 20W40 semi or fully synthetic oils are not available in our market.
Though Castrol oil is not approved by most of the GS owners here, I am not facing any issues including vibration in my bike due to it.

I many time experience this 'thud' sound.
How should I minimize it? I have not experience this in anyother bike.___________________________________________

its a process to be learned......just blip the throttle.....and when you gradually release the throttle.....just flick the gear.....and all this has to happen at right rpm.....for me its 3.5k-4.5k......Originally posted by mysti View PostI many time experience this 'thud' sound.

Yes I am planning to ride another GS during my next SVC visit.
Regarding that "Thud" sound I know that behavior and have come across it very few times.
But this noise I am talking about started coming soon after the 1st service. Its like a clanging 2 metal pieces together and after that only the gear gets engaged.
Also for the last 900kms(after 3rd service) this noise was not present but from 3-4 days it has started to bug me constantly along with stiff gear shifts.
So I highly doubt that my gear shifting has changed during this interval ..and Anyhow will take a call during my next svc visit..

Hey Sri,
If yours is a new bike, its always better to use service center's.
But Still if you want to experiment ,
Castrol Active or Shell 20w 40 or Elf MotoGold ( mineral Oils)are very well suitable for GS
I wont recommend a semi synthetic or synthetic to newbies who got GS recently or if the odo shows less than 6k .
For people whose GS crossed 6K and less than 9k in their odometers, You can try Shell Semi Synthetic 15w40 (400+ rs) .. it works wonders
Note for newbies:
1) Value Motors,Vasanth nagar, Bangalore service center uses a suzuki engine oil of viscosity 10w30
2) BTM lay out , Bangalore service center uses Veedol (no idea on viscosity) engine oil
3)Once you stick to semi synthetic, DO NOT move back to mineral again
4) Buy a bottle of Castrol especially at an authorized dealer to save yourself from duplication.
5) Use engine oils whose viscocity is suggested in the manual, don't kill your bike with irrelevant experimentsKrishna

I was on a long haul(600 kms approx) last weekend; Went to Chikka-magaluru(Chikmangalore) for some function. Also found some time to ride to Mullayanagiri with a pillion(my dad!).
Mullayanagiri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
last few hundred meters (200 meters) were extremely difficult. Road becomes leaner there; only sufficient for a SUV I guess. I couldn't ride all the way up as couple of SUVs were finding hard to cross each other. Had to park it at a corner of the road about 200 meters from peak (parking lot). I was very happy to park it there; for I only then realised the steepness of the slope.. I was out of breath..
1st and 2nd gears were put to use @high RPMs for longer duration for the first time!!!There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

From the description, I think the problem is your gear shifting style. Anyway, get the bike checked by the engineer at the SC.

Try using the heel shifter for a change to shift up instead of completely toe shifting. It did help me.Originally posted by ashoka_bnglr View Postit has started to bug me constantly along with stiff gear shifts.Last edited by vikhyath; 11-07-2011, 08:59 PM.In today's world, quotes don't matter. I had no tyre grip issues whatsoever. Road was dry (some luck there); however small gravels that are at HairPin bends (U turns) uphill induce fear..Originally posted by gmagesh14 View PostHow was the tyre grip.. did it helped you?
UP-Shifting Gears
I've been using heel-shift from the beginning; toe shifting didn't work out for me as I dislike shoes!!! and find toe-shifting hardThere is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa
