    It is difficult or almost impossible to use 100/110 watt headlight bulb, even after rewinding the coil as the total consumption becomes more than 200 watts which results more than 16 amperes. We cannot wind the coil with such a thick wire as it will touch the rotor.
    whatever i didnt catch up a bit & seriously all my electricity lessons gone for a waste now !

      GEAR RATIOS OF SUZUKI GS150R
      1st = 33/12 = 2.75
      2nd = 29/15 = 1.93
      3rd = 23/20 = 1.3
      4th = 24/22 = 1.09
      5th = 22/23 = 0.96
      6th = 20/24 = 0.83

      Primary Reduction ratio = 73/21 = 3.476

      Now, entering these figures in Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator
      I found that

      For RPM 1000,2000,3000,4000,5000,6000,7000,8000,9000,10000 ,11000

      1000 RPM

      speeds in 2nd gear - 6.1,
      speeds in 3rd gear - 9.1,
      speeds in 4th gear - 10.9,
      speeds in 5th gear - 12.4,

      speeds in 3rd gear - 91.1,
      speeds in 4th gear - 108.6,
      speeds in 5th gear - 123,
      speeds in 6th gear - 142.1

      So in layman's terms what does this mean ?

      • Yeah Vishnu.........I didn't do it myself due ,but was capable of passing on the concept of Full DC to the motor-wiring uncle who had set-up the electricals perfectly for my bike.The uncle had knowledge of how things worked,but did not have a platform and an opportunity to prove his knowledge.Finding my resolution, he worked on my bike.........both us enjoyed when it was a success- ours was a team work.

        All I had to do is to give him the concept, get the RR, get the wire,put my bike on the experimental ground and blow some bucks.............the same thing now uses Hyundai Santro's horns, Toyota Fortuner's HID unit and powers the positive atmospheric pressure supercharger vanes.
        Well, if my GS150R and a Land Rover Evoque comes at a traffic light at the same time then..........only and both of these vehicles gets all the attention equally.

        For most I am the person who do not go into details and even though I enjoy perfection and the unknown, but again-no one's perfect.

        Thanks for the clarification, it is never too late to learn when things are missed in hurry and worry.

          It is because both are six geared, having the same number of RVMs.

              • Finding Gear speeds

                My pleasure. Thank you vishnukmd

                vulcan : In layman's terms, you have to go through the website detailed below to realize how to get better performance from the bike

                ShivaHyd :

                These are the steps I followed to get the chart

                a) Open Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator
                b) Select bike brand : 115-Suzuki
                c) Select Model : GSR
                d) Select Version/Year : 400 '06-'07
                e) Click on 'Load Gearing' and all values get filled up automatically below
                f) The primary Drive Ratio value is mentioned as 1.926. This I changed to 3.476 [GS150R value]
                g) I kept the same value for all three rows Stock, Current & Custom. You can change this for analysis
                h) Rim size mentioned 17" I changed to 18"
                i) I hadnt changed rear tyre width. The value 180 can be changed to 100
                j) Tyre % is I think 56
                k) Final Drive Ration Front / Rear : I put 14 / 42 [Final reduction Ratio? ]
                l) No of chain links I changed from 114 to 124 [from book]
                m) Now I entered the Gear ratios from the Handbook
                1st = 33/12 = 2.75
                2nd = 29/15 = 1.93
                3rd = 23/20 = 1.3
                4th = 24/22 = 1.09
                5th = 22/23 = 0.96
                6th = 20/24 = 0.83

                n) Lastly I entered the minimum RPM to display as 1000 RPM
                o) The website will display the speeds achievable at various RPM in a neat tabular form
                p) There are options to view graphs and view gear shift speeds etc.,

                • The actual speeds I get wrt rpm seems slightly lower than what the chart shows(and I think the values went down slightly since two services back).
                  @4000rpm
                  4th -> 41kmph
                  5th -> 47kmph
                  6th -> 53kmph

                  • Update on GS 150 after 22400 km on odo

                    Hello Xbhpians,
                    This is Krishna and me too own this gixxer since Aug 2010 . Was dying for user reviews when i was planning to take this bike. But sadly dint know about xbhp that time otherwise it would have been a smooth process. But better late than never. Got to know about this site after 1 year of purchase.

                    Initial Choices
                    1) Suzuki Fiero,even i was ready to buy a preowned version as i love this bike to the max
                    2) Honda Unicorn
                    3) Bullet standard version 350

                    Surpringly i picked this gixxer after a test ride at the congested double road, bangalore as i was surprised when i saw that i can ride this bike at 5th gear at a speed of 30 km with out knocking.

                    Since Aug 2010 i did the following on my baby gixxer

                    long Tours:
                    1) Did touring trip from Bangalore to Agumbe ghat(Karnataka ) (to and fro 1200 km)
                    2) Did touring trip from Bangalore to Munnar Kerala (1500 km to and fro)
                    Short Trips
                    3) Bangalore to Mysore (5 times) bang to mysore distance is 140km one way
                    4) Bangalore to my home town Anantapur, Andhra ( dozen times)
                    one way distance : 210 km
                    5) Bangalore to Hogenekkal ,Tamilnadu (155 one way) with a pillion rider

                    Daily Commute:
                    18+18 km

                    Botox Treatments
                    1) Changed the rear stock tyre MRF Zapper to Michilian Pilot Sporty tubeless tyre (Roamed for 10k km )
                    2) Back to Stock tyre now as i kept the tubeless for long rides

                    Bike Falls
                    1) I fell from my bike in the chicmagalur ghat with a pillion rider,got minor scratches to bike (only) , lifted this monster and headed again
                    2) Bike fell when i forgot to notice that i have parked her on a wet surface
                    3) Bike fell again when i lost control while taking a sharp curve.

                    Note: The above falls are purely based on my inexperience. Even they are solid falls , bike had minor scratches and by the next minute it served me as usual.

                    Engine Oils used
                    1) Used only the service center's for 2 services
                    2) Castrol Active 20w 40 (230rs)
                    3) Shell Helix fully synthetic 5w 40 (1000 Rs , my odo was at 6k that time)
                    4) Shell VSX semi Synthetic15w 50 (400 Rs)
                    Got to know that once you move to synthetic , cant come back to mineral oils or semi synthetic hence ,
                    5) Shell Ultra fully synthetic 10w 40(750 Rs, got to know that Helix is for cars )
                    6) Now Castrol Power 1 racing fully synthetic 10w 50 (700 Rs)

                    Max speed
                    120 kmph with a pillion rider on NH7

                    Mileage
                    Highest : 60.54 ( before I service) Eco mode with a speed of 55 max
                    Highest after I service: 55 (with a heavy michilean pilot sporty tubeless) in power mode
                    Lowest: 45 ( when it got punctured and i dint notice) in power mode
                    Total Avg if i put in this 1 yr 3 months period: 52 to 54 kmpl

                    Best Suited fuel(normal one ) for my gixxer is Bharath Petrolium especially the BP Petrol bunk at udupi garden signal, Bangalore

                    Trivia
                    felt very happy when i got compliments for this gixxer from 3 different bike owners (hard core fans of Pulsar, fazer and Unicorn)

                    from Honda fan: "No vibrations after 100...Coool brother"
                    From Yamaha Fan: "Gaadi masth daudtha hai.. " ( This bike cruises nicely)
                    From Pulsar fan: "A pleasure to ride your bike on highways"

                    My Verdict:
                    People who got the following qualities can pick this gixxer
                    1) above 5"8 height
                    2) likeCommu-touring
                    3) Who are able to drag manually in the congested parking lots
                    4) Who want a 150cc bike with a better fuel efficiency
                    5) who want to experience the gixxer (6th gear) funda

                    Final Note:
                    The above are factual details given, based on my experiences on this gixxer right from the day of purchase and its for the reader's choice to decide

                    Hope it helps people

                      I like the sweet spot of GS
                      Speed of 56.8 km/hr in 6th Gear @4000 rpm.

                        Sorry to say that that is a prejudicial view. The mechanics are not changing the sprockets at the time of servicing. The speed of every GS including yours and mine at 4 K rpm in 6th gear is around 56 kmh.
                        The ‘angle of view’ is the problem. Look at the tachometer in 90 degree angle while you drive.

                            Max speed

                            Total Avg if i put in this 1 yr 3 months period: 52 to 54 kmpl

                            Best Suited fuel(normal one ) for my gixxer is Bharath Petrolium especially the BP Petrol bunk at udupi garden signal, Bangalore

                            Trivia
                            felt very happy when i got compliments for this gixxer from 3 different bike owners (hard core fans of Pulsar, fazer and Unicorn)

                            from Honda fan: "No vibrations after 100...Coool brother"

                            My Verdict:
                            People who got the following qualities can pick this gixxer
                            1) above 5"8 height

                            5) who want to experience the gixxer (6th gear) funda

                            Final Note:

                            ride safe...
                            You inspired me to write one from My side too.....I have been lurking on the GS forums for like 2.5 yrs years but never wrote one!!!!

                            I brought my GS in Nov2009 (I didnt even took a test ride as i never knew how to ride a motorcycle back then).......though i learnt riding on GS I brought my second machine called the honda stunner for city use and kept my GS for Highway use.....

                            Initial choices:
                            Yamaha Fazer

                            later discarded due to small rear seat as even my Dad wanted to ride the vehicle with my mom as pillion during his holidays.

                            Suzuki GS150R

                            Had a biiiig fight with the honda guys when i went to buy an activa for my dad.....and suzuki showroom is bang opposite......so went there.....took a look at access but it was too small for me considering my height....hence called up dad over to showroom....it took three hours for me,my two brothers and the sales guy to convince my dad to buy the GS......i know its wierd that going to buy a scoot for my dad and I actually landed up with GS for me...

                            2:Pune 4 times, 340kms

                            9:Nashik 3 times, 330kms
                            10:Saputara 1 time, 550kms
                            11:Khopoli-Pen 1 time, 250 kms
                            12: Bhandardara 2 times, 550kms
                            13:Rajmachi 1 time, 180kms but those included the 40 kms of true offroading.....it was more like we went trekking on our bikes
                            14: Aamby valley 2 times, 200kms

                            (Many more long tours planned in coming days )

                            Daily commute:
                            Ranges from 0 kms to 1623 kms.....really depends on my mood

                            Cosmetic changes:
                            As of now just some stickering,nothing much....

                            and yes....got it converted to full DC...

                            Bike falls:
                            1:Kasara ghat, was in the right most lane since its a two lane one way, and a bugger taxi driver came wrong side.....so had to take bike off the road and braked in gravel which caused it to skid.....

                            damages:few scratches due to gravel on the front fairing

                            2: Ghodbunder road, it was newly tarred and just shifted my weight around for a corner, was doing 100+ on odo.....and then when in the mid corner I realised those buggers put up rumble strips(they were not there a day before).....as the bike was already inclined to a big angle and with such speed on odo couldnt make the bike straight and hit the road divider so I let it went over the rumble strips and skidded along the road.....(I thought that was the perfect way to save myself and bike from great damages)

                            damages: bent handle bar(i never noticed it until back when Pritam told me when he took my bike for a spin), bent clutch lever, bent gear lever and scratches on the front fairing

                            3: During my rajasthan trip was cruising effortlessly at 90+ and a villager crossed the highway talking on his mobile....i honked and swerved but he panicked and started running without looking back....and hit my bike from right.....and flew back....i fell down on left.....and the Impact was so high that my bikes tank got a dent where he hit himself....

                            Damages:got a dent on tank,bent clutch lever, bent gear lever, left indicators lens broken, bent crash guard, scratches again on the same part of fairing.

                            I accept I was at mistake too because of riding at such speeds but i couldnt stop them from happening.....and i was saved because of my luck and the riding gears......

                            SO an appeal to all the riders......Wear your riding gears at the time of riding

                            Engine oils used
                            castrol oil provided by service center

                            Max speed
                            138kmph on odo at NH3

                            Lowest: 40kmpl city riding

                            My Verdict:
                            People who got the following qualities can pick the GS
                            1) Above 5"10 height
