    UP-Shifting Gears
I've been using heel-shift from the beginning; toe shifting didn't work out for me as I dislike shoes!!! and find toe-shifting hard
What was the average you got on the ride?

If yours is a new bike, its always better to use service center's.

But Still if you want to experiment ,
Castrol Active or Shell 20w 40 or Elf MotoGold ( mineral Oils)are very well suitable for GS
I wont recommend a semi synthetic or synthetic to newbies who got GS recently or if the odo shows less than 6k .

For people whose GS crossed 6K and less than 9k in their odometers, You can try Shell Semi Synthetic 15w40 (400+ rs) .. it works wonders

      Note for newbies:
      1) Value Motors,Vasanth nagar, Bangalore service center uses a suzuki engine oil of viscosity 10w30
      2) BTM lay out , Bangalore service center uses Veedol (no idea on viscosity) engine oil
3)Once you stick to semi synthetic, DO NOT move back to mineral again
      4) Buy a bottle of Castrol especially at an authorized dealer to save yourself from duplication.
      5) Use engine oils whose viscocity is suggested in the manual, don't kill your bike with irrelevant experiments
Hmmm you mean to say till 6 k mineral 6 to 9 k semi synth and then what about above 9 k on odo synthetic ? OMG

am still using mineral and my bike odo is close to 12 k on odo

brother for a commuter mineral oil is best fit, moreover when it comes to environmental pollution, bike health and economical (price) always mineral is the best oil

show me at least one bike manufacturer who recommends synthetic or semi synthetic oil for commuter bikes

those who ride tours occasionally monthly twice a trip of around 400+ kms then its justified to use semi synthetic but still the same thing can be achieved using mineral too

synthetic best fit for those who keep crossing the redline on RPM and wants to race past their previous high speed records.

last few hundred meters (200 meters) were extremely difficult. Road becomes leaner there; only sufficient for a SUV I guess. I couldn't ride all the way up as couple of SUVs were finding hard to cross each other. Had to park it at a corner of the road about 200 meters from peak (parking lot). I was very happy to park it there; for I only then realised the steepness of the slope.. I was out of breath..

1st and 2nd gears were put to use @high RPMs for longer duration for the first time!!!
I would highly recommend parking your bike @Sheetalyanagiri temple (2 kms below the peak).. and trek the rest on foot

I can only share that when remaining fuel hits 4 ltr mark.. for I'm not sure how much is left..

guesstimate Avg : 50 kmpl (speed varied bet 50 and 75 kmph)..

I got to change the oil(& filter as well)...

                    • Took a test ride today

Today I took a test ride though a short one of GS 150R old version (since no new version was not available with them for display too) at riya suzuki at Mulund, and was really delighted by its handling and big bike feel. It looks perfect for me as I am 5' 10'', and it has got perfect seating position. Gears change were smooth.
Earlier I was informed that brakes of this bike are not good and bike is very underpowered, but I didn't feel so at all...I specifically tested the front and rear brakes in my ride and felt fine, although pick was not that great but I found it satisfactory to my needs..may be I am upgrading myself from bajaj discover 135 to GS150, and my experience of biking is limited to discover 135 (11000 kms) and bajaj 150 (have ridden friend's bike for 50 kms only) and hence I ddidn't feel the difference that other bikers have informed me...I felt the bike is superb and will book the same in couple of days.

The dealer informed me that new version has waiting period of 1.5 month and old version is readily available..morever I will be going for black colour and the red stripe in black colour of new GS looks ugly to me and since only change in new and old version is graphics and minor headlight design (which I was not able to make out) I will be booking the old black colour version..

So friends please advise me will it be correct to go for the old version of GS 150...

                      • Regarding shifting..
I always use toe-shift for up as well as down shifting. Heel seems not good for me

I feel up shifting to be super smooth. It doesnt make any kind of click noise when i up shift. Just a gentle push with the toe and its the next gear. But while down shifting, the story is different for me, the usual gentle push wont be enough this time. I have to push a little more harder to down shift and it does make a click sound. I feel like, I have still not got the right nack of down shifting

But i experienced a problem with my soft smooth up-shifting. Its only in the sixth gear. If I am soft and gentle on 6th gear, the bike will move a bit and the gear will slip off 6th. It'll be now between 5th and 6th, and the gear indicator shows no number. So now, I'll have to Up-shift again to cruise in the top gear. Experienced this problem a few times on my GS. But, if I am a bit more hard on the 6th shift, it wont slip at all..

I've another one to add to that list; sometimes the gear indicator blinks the number(it has been 5 in all such instances for me); although I notice no problem in riding...

I also felt between gears effect; and bike thuds to lower(or upper sometime, not sure of the gear physics) gear to settle it.
Switching from 1 to 2 gets me at times.

I have received the new model white bike on Nov 1st. The shock absorber rubbers are removed and you get a psychological boost of buying newer models if available. Maybe it is better you take latest model

Before the first service itself I took the bike for a long ride and find that the seating posture doesnt allow you to slouch. So, even after two-three hours of continuous riding, I didnt feel any back strain .. wonderful

A couple of People passing by on Pulsar even commented that the white bike looks good

Couple of people .. including ladies from Alliance Francaise did stop by to ask me for directions while I was riding

                              So you decide
