Yes i too doubt so..Originally posted by Aneesh@4GHz View PostI think its Tappet sound.
Let see what happens in the SVC..
Till now it didn't created any problem.. Hoping ,it wont after rectification too..
Second mileage update from my side, 53kmpl still didn't hit the reserve and there will be around 0.5ltr to reach reserve..
So again a 55kmpl approx with mix of City (More) & Highway (Less) riding..

I could notice this sound only at idle rpm.,not while opening the throttle..
The mechanic checked the bike by giving throttle and de-throttle.,
After testing it for some minutes he concluded that the sound is from valve area..
I could clearly hear the sound is coming around the spark plug area..
Is it from the automatic decompressor?
To me, it is a little difficult to conclude that it is from tappets as your bike is very new and not rough used.
Anyhow, adjust the valve clearance and see the result.

It doesnt matter whether the bike is new,Have a look at the ZMA thread, all new ZMA-R 2011 models are having this tappet issues,This is not a problem,it needs adjustment.Thats all.Originally posted by vishnukmd View Post[FONT=Verdana]it is a little difficult to conclude that it is from tappets as your bike is very new and not rough used.
In ZMA,tappet sound will be heard when idling, and after some riding ,when the engine is hot,it increases with increase in acceleration,is this same you guys too facing?

Yes Vishnu I'm also wondering how it had happenedOriginally posted by vishnukmd View PostTo me, it is a little difficult to conclude that it is from tappets as your bike is very new and not rough used.

..
But I didn't mentioned it earlier, last week I had taken my bike to vellore and it had crossed 1000kms mark while reaching vellore..while returning , I drove at 70kmph (5k rpm) for some 90kms
..
I guess It might be the culprit,

Do not diagnose yourself and ask the Doctor to give medicine according to your diagnosis. GS is not designed to be driven in low speeds only and this 70 kmh is a common riding speed.

Sure sure friend..Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostOnce this tappet noise was spreading like a fever among GS owners. I don’t know why, this word is continuously haunting us.
Please consult the engineer – not the mechanic - at the SC and decide what to do.
I forgot this person "Engineer"..
Thanks a bunch vishnu, I'll not give it for service before consulting the Engineer
No Vishnu I didn't mean it.. Considering the bike is in run-in and running the bike at this speed for long distance is not a good practice.. That day I not even took a halt to cool the engine.. That's why mentioned it..Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostGS is not designed to be driven in low speeds only and this 70 kmh is a common riding speed.

There are two levers on the outside of the cam. When the engine is not spinning fast, they are held in place by springs. When the engine is spinning beyond starter cranking speed, centrifugal force causes the weighted levers to move outward.Originally posted by gmagesh14 View Post+1 Vishnu., I too want to know..
Searching in google now.......
Attached to the levers is a round dowel with a flat in it. When the engine is stopped or spinning slowly on the starter, the round part of the dowel bumps the exhaust bucket open a tad, relieving some compression.
When the engine is running, the levers move out and rotate the pin so the flat faces the bucket and it does not touch.
