In Hero Honda and Suzuki bikes, increased valve clearance is a very rare case. If there is tappet noise from your 1400 kms old bike, you may have ridden it without sufficient quantity of oil or may have ridden at extremely high speeds for very long time.

    * I havenot crossed 60 km/h even once.
    * I havenot driven the bike continuously for more than 15 kms in a go.
    * I have done my first oil change to MOTUL - 20 40 mineral at 650 kms and the oils are ok as of now.
    * I have been leaving my bike in idling for a minute everyday to circulate the engine oil.

This is how i have maintained her.

Tappet noise only comes when engine is 6 to 8 km hot. And the engine sounds as tat of a small generators which r used in shops

I wonder whether improper valve clearance also causes excessive heating?

This was expected as our GS is one cheapest 150cc after SZ and disco in B'lore.

Anyways its worth to pay more for a complete bike like GS

Now Bajaj copies the dual coloured rear pannels as in our Blue and orange Gs s for its new Pulsar model . Thus making all the existing pulsar look outdated.

I am very happy with stabiliy of suzuki products even though some havenot performed vey well

Then there is no reason to believe that it is not tappet noise. Valve clearance is not causing the heat but if it is insufficient, the heat at the valves will not be dissipated effectively which subsequently will result melting of the valves.

Instead of diagnosing yourself, meet the engineer at the SC and ask him to check your bike and do whatever he suggests. Perhaps the engine sound may be normal or there may be some other reasons for it. Anyhow, trust him and do not compel to do any repairing on your bike which is very new.

        • Engine Oil Change for GS150R

Guys, Today I came across the below link that explains how to change the engine oil on a Pulsar.

          Engine Oil Change - YouTube

Just wanted to know if we could follow the same process for GS150R as well. I have never changed the engine oil on my own. But I would like to do that instead of depending on ASC/Mechanics.

What are the key points that I will need to consider for this? And is it 'OK' if I do it on my own.

          Thanks guys.

          • Multiple symptom's one solution

In the past one week got following symptoms

            1. Getting karra karra karra noise from chain.

            2. Some times Gear indicator shows blank and getting screaming noise from gear box while I try to switch either from 3rd or 4th or 5th gear.
As my GS gear got struck somewhere in between.

            3. Rear wheel is not rotating freely

            4. Mileage is also dropped drastically 39 kmpl.

Took the bike to local mechanic and now all the issues are no more its a 5 minute work, he just loosen the chain

As I told earlier my GS is different when it comes to chain, for most of the Gspians chain became loose so earlier, but for me chain is getting so tight and this is the second time its happening.

Done a 100 ml bottle test reached 6.2 kms ( so it should be 62 kmpl)

The oil drain plug (nut) of GS is on the bottom of the engine. Use a 17 mm socket / ring spanner to remove it and 8 mm box spanner to remove the 3 bolts on oil filter cap. If the oil filler cap is tight, loosen it with suitable pliers.

Do not use open end spanners to remove the nuts so as to avoid possible slippage which damage the nuts.

While replacing the oil filter, be sure that the open end of the oil filter (there is a hole there) goes to the engine.

Every month, check if your chain is tight or loose.

Put the bike on center stand and rotate the rear wheel, and if it does not rotate freely, chain is tight.

To check if chain is loose, through the slot provided in chain case, you have to push the chain up and see if it is dangling/hanging too loose.

Just get it adjusted by this local mechanic, as local mechanics seem to provide better service for such minor adjustments. Go to showroom only if any suzuki parts are required.

Monthly bike sales figures are out for Sep 2011. As usual, suzuki continues to languish at the bottom, thanks to lazy management, bad marketing, and non-stylish heavy vehicles, except the Access, which has good power-to-weight ratio.

I checked and found the chain was too tight earlier almost 45 days ago and same repeated today as well.
both times it was fixed by local mechanic

In ordinary bikes, the chain is being stretched and is getting loose while we ride. But in your bike it is becoming tight.

Tightness of the chain is not obstructing the free rotation of the rear wheel of an ordinary bike. But your rear wheel refuses to rotate freely unless the chain is loosened.

The gear indicator of that bike does not indicate anything – it remains blank – up to the moment you loosen the chain and after this loosening, it starts to function properly.

Strangely enough, that bike gives a very good FE of 62 kml only if the chain is loose. If it is tightened, the FE drops to 39 kml. In real world, a tight chain is better for good FE.

I was wondering how strangely that bike is working and came to the conclusion that it is a faulty creation of the creator (Suzuki factory at Gurgaon, Haryana).

All of us know that Suzuki is not among the top bike sellers here and we are not the least bothered about their sales figures.

No one is compelling you to buy a Suzuki bike and as far as I know, you are not having one and are to buy a Dazzler. So, let our bike be non-stylish, ugly, heavy and with poor power to weight ratio.

So please don’t use this thread to defame our bike in the disguise of being anxious about its sales.

yeah thats true in the past 3 or 4 months its happening

but after loosing its rotating freely, and thats the only work done by mechanic

oops u got it wrong frequently gear got struck between 4 and 5th gear at that time only gear indicator is blank and making noise after fixing the chain issue driven my GS for 15 kms and it didnt happened again

if the back wheel is tight and not rotating freely it will affect FE right
and believe it or not the chain was toooo tight when we opened the chain cover.

                          answers are in bold

i haven't concluded it as faulty creation of the creator but i said all other GS owners faced only loosing chain issue but for me its chain tight issue

Buddy, i am not here to defame any particular bike. In fact, i am hesitating to buy dazzler due to lack of kicker and low sales too. But gs150r's weight is definitely affecting it, and suzuki are not doing anything about it. The sales figures speak for themselves.

Maybe the extra engine balancer and 6th gear justifies the higher weight, but if they just reduce the weight by 3 to 4 kg and bring it on par with unicorn, this will sway many undecided customers towards gs150. Looking at SZ-R, I dont think such 3 kg weight reduction is too difficult for suzuki to achieve, and possibly they might do it in the upcoming model.

I just put off my purchase of dazzler, as I am interested in that supposedly upgraded gs150r that was to be launched this month, October, as reported in many websites. If that comes through, i too will be getting the gs150r. Now, dont blame me for spreading rumors again about that stale story of that white gs150r.

Hey, i dont think the success of any bike in 'Indian market' is determined by the weight, or power to weight ratio.
Its only us people at xBhp who break our heads seeing all these specs of every bike and finding minor faults here and there.

In fact, i'm pretty sure half the pulsar owners bought the bike after seeing some awesome ad on tv or because they saw many pulsars on the road and thought it was the best bike out there and wouldnt even know how much the bike weighs.

The only reason why suzuki has less sales is that they have very few showrooms/ service centers in comparison to bajaj or tvs, and they hardly advertise too.

P.S The weight of the bike is hardly noticeable while riding, and the bike is 2.5 times my weight, so its hardly a downside to the bike.

I was told that there a mechanism in the left had side near to gear box which dangles and makes noise similar to tappet noise, Same which gives a " Tak " noise when the engine is switched off.

Surely i will be going this week, But i need to leave the bike whole day for it to be opened and adjusted.
