Engine giving jerks.
Hi, guys.
Yesterday I took my GS to 180 kms round trip... after riding 15-20 kms engine started giving me jerks. I was driving at speed of 55-60 kms constantly.
My bike gave me jerks in whole trip... frequency of jerks are 3-4 seconds
/ jerk.
As my bike is only 10 days old... I am really worried. Please help.....
High Hopes......

Most probable cause would be water in petrol !Originally posted by dhruv5588 View PostHi, guys.

There are a number of reasons for this jerking, but as your bike is new, it is because the fuel is not properly reaching the carburetor. Ask the mechanic to clean the air vent of the fuel tank. If the problem persists, get the fuel line from the tank to the carburetor cleaned.
Another possibility is the leak at sparkplug cap. Replace it with one of Zeus 125, if necessary.

hello guys ..
long tym ...
a tappet adjustment related noise is coming from the engine, kms covered 14210,,,
i got the engine checked from "bitto byke wala workshop" in delhi, but the noise seems to increase more after the mechanic adjusted the tappets. seriously got frustated by suzuki service station , excuse for increased noise , "bhaiya light chali gyi . parso aana poori service karwa jaana"
does any body from noida knows about the new service station" sai auto world" how are the mechanics there???
or how much tappet clearance is required in (mm).. if any body knows .. plz plz help ..
i'm very much worried...
any one experienced this problem before .. ,, is it a major problem? , does it affect the performance of the engine (fuel eff etc!!)
also if any one knows about the alignment of handle bar and fork , the fork seems to have run out of alignment (bend) , gives a inner right side pull when front brake applied.
plz help

Thanks vishnukmd.Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostWelcome to our GS 150R family. Frankly speaking, this gear shifting problem is due to your gear shifting style. You are shifting it in the inappropriate engine rpm and it will become smooth when you get used to it as msb said.
Adjust the engine rpm to a maximum of 1400 when the engine is warm, i.e. after riding 2 or 3 kms. And always engage 1st gear at a lower rpm, i.e. at around 1000-1100, without accelerating.

Tried the way you mentioned to shift gears. Its working fine now. Also, the headlight was adjusted by myself. Now its focusing fine.
Today had a strange incident related to gears. While trying to shift gear from 3rd to 4th, it moved onto false neutral, i.e., the gear did not shift properly and the shift indicator went blank. Pushed the lever again and it shifted the gear to 4th with indicator showing 4. But, the subsequent upshifts and downshifts were stranger than before. It was so smooth that I could not feel any feedback from the lever on shifting gears. It felt as though some spring or some other part has broken which made the gear shift to behave in such a way. Now this has created hell lot of problems. The gearshifts at most times have false neutral with blank shift indicator. I have to keep looking at the shift indicator every time and shift gears if needed. Also, the lever can be pushed down even after 1st gear. It used to get hard/stuck if we try to push it while in 1st gear before. And, the indicator shows 2nd gear when I push the lever down while in 1st gear. Strange!!! Having problems to ride now in city traffic with this new problem. I am going to SVC to get it checked tomorrow.

The tappet clearance in our bike is .04 mm. If what you hear is smoothing like THIS or THIS, it is tappet noise. Approach the engineer in the workshop and ask him to adjust the valve clearance if necessary.Last edited by vishnukmd; 10-04-2011, 06:30 PM.

are you sure it's .04 inches?? 'cos if i remember correct...it was mentioned in mm in service manual. I may be wrong...but i have never seen filler gauge of this thickness for valve clearance adjustment in bikes. the clearance you have mentioned is like this : ll the distance between two lines is nearly 1 mm.Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostThe tappet clearance in our bike is .04 inchanything that can go wrong will surely go wrong at the wrong time and the wrong place

Hi All,
What a great start I had today
.
What more can you expect in the beginning of the day wherein as soon you step outside of your home, you are greeted with an I-4 engine sound next to your door step.
Yes today as soon i stepped outside a black-red Hayabusa was stuck in the traffic and I got a chance to follow it for a good half a km stretch in heavy traffic
Kudos to the driver who was managing the mighty Busa on such a traffic
He was wearing a white LS2 helmet and a monster sticker was present above the tail piece.
Now comes a small doubt I have now:
My 3rd service is due this week and as I went to SVC to leave my bike for servicing, they said I will get my bike only on Monday
..
As tomorrow is Ayudha Pooja, almost every one was giving their bikes/scooters for servicing and hence the delay.
Anyhow I didn't gave for servicing.
Now the KMs I have covered after last servicing/oil change is around 1900kms and I am planning to go for a 600+ bike trip on Thursday..
So will the present oil survive that trip or should I change it myself..
Also if I change the oil and after the trip when I leave the bike for servicing, can I ask them not to do oil change ?

Sorry. It was a typing error and it is 0.04 mm and 0.08 mm. Thanks for pointing it out.

The manufacturers suggest oil change at every 4000 kms but most of us are changing it in every 2000-2500 kms. Going for a 600 kms ride without changing oil will not be harmful to your bike. If you change it now, you can surely ask them to not change it again at the time of next servicing.

Even I am following "Replace every 2k kms" method and have done in my last 2 services.
Will try to change the oil if possible right awayLast edited by ashoka_bnglr; 10-04-2011, 07:11 PM.

I had reported during recent service . They were little reluctant to open the new engine . But i insisted them to adjust .
Even now there is noise ( less compared to before). Engine is getting heated up very fast
. Does it require immediate attention? I m concerned since bike is in running in period
.

Service is a major problem with almost all bike makers in India. There seems to be no such thing as customer care.
A new bike's engine still in run-in period will get heated a little more than one which has finished run-in, but cant say if your engine heating is normal or not. Even a well-settled engine heats up on long rides. It could be overheating if you can feel the heat near your legs. Check oil level.
Guess what, gs150r price has been hiked a little. It now costs 74.5k on-road in Bangalore.

My bike is 1 year 8 months and 19000 kms old now and I am carefully maintaining it with periodic oil change, lubing etc.
Yet its engine is heating while I ride it and I thought it is mainly due to the heat produced while the burning of fuel and friction between the moving parts.
In Hero Honda and Suzuki bikes, increased valve clearance is a very rare case. If there is tappet noise from your 1400 kms old bike, you may have ridden it without sufficient quantity of oil or may have ridden at extremely high speeds for very long time.
