    As all of us know, the FE depend many factors and the truth is that the carburetor is turned to a correct point to get maximum FE and performance. By adjusting it, you are losing either the FE or power. More than that, there is a limit to the better FE you can achieve by retuning and it, as far as I know, is not very much.

    I am not foolish enough to believe that the engineers who designed this bike are idiots who cannot find out another sweet point (which we easily found out without the help of even a good tachometer) of turning which gives better FE and power, especially nowadays when scarcity of petroleum products is a main issue all over the world.

    A well maintained, well ridden bike will surely give good FE.

    Now, I too am laughing out loudly.

      Thats true

      Their is only one sweet point for mileage and another one sweet point for those who need performance but not mileage

      • what is the headlight bulb type?i saw somewhere in the manual that it is HS1.What is HS1,is it related to halogen bulb?is HS1 AND H4 SAME?

        @vishnu and firegun

        As both of you are top milage derivers of our gs...please pen down your methods/techniqiues followed by you(like gear change intervel/rpm,top speed,lubing chain etc if any other things)>this will help our fellow gspians to have better awareness about mileage factors and its practical usage.

        • Hi Guys,

          I haven't posted anything in quite some time, was catching up with all the posts.

          Btw, my bike crossed 10,000 kms.... finally. (its been little more than 2 years now)

          Should i give the bike for servicing, or get anything changed like fork oil/grease or spark plug (i'm still using the plug that i got when i bought the bike) or anything else.
          I havent given my bike for servicing much this year, just once in jan and once in april. (Realized that GS doesnt really need much servicing)

          And is chain tightening a DIY thing ? i just want to try tightening it a little bit, how many turns (of the screws on both sides of swingarm) would be optimal and not over tightening it ? i guess my chain is little loose since it hits the chain cover at times while changing gears and going over bumps.

            Both are halogen bulbs but are not the same. The difference is that the middle pin at the base of the HS1 bulb is slightly thicker than the H4 bulb.

            Osram NB is H4 while Philips Premium is HS1. HS1 bulbs are mainly for smaller vehicles like motorcycles and scooters.

            In my opinion, you can tighten the chain yourself, provided you have necessary tools, especially a good torque wrench, with you as the rear axle nut and rear sprocket drum nut need to be tightened in a specific torque. The improper tightening of these nuts may cause vibration of the bike.

              • Hi guys... 2 queries.

                (1) What should be the front and rear Tyre pressure for GS? (in manual its 25 & 33 psi but my suzuki dealer filled 25 & 50 . and he advised me to keep it 50 psi in rear tyre.

                (2) My GS' choke is very tight.. I mean really tight, I literally apply very hard force of my hand to move choke. Is it same in every GS? If not what to do to make choke little free?
                High Hopes......

                  It is normal and need not worry about it.

                    Ok, i'll try the chain tightening tomorrow morning and give it for service next week.

                    I got a mileage of 53 this time, so guess there isnt any major issues with the engine or carb or anything.

                    50 ?? you serious ?? i think a little higher and the tyre would have exploded !!
                    Anyway, i guess most petrol bunks fill 26 and 36 by default for every bike, you could stick to that if you're too lazy (like me) to tell them to keep it at 25 and 33 every time.

                    • Regarding the Tyre pressure,I have kept 28 for solo riding as per manual.I do ride with a pillion at times,now should I change it to 33

                      Also to calculate fuel efficiency if we fill say for example 7 litres and after some 288km the bike hits the reserve,now should I divide the kms covered by 7 or 5.5(considering the 1.5 litre reserve)

                        The recommended air pressure is 25-33 psi. So fill 25-33 or 25-35 psi of air. To know the accurate FE, ride with 200 or 300 ml of fuel in a jar connected to the dry carburetor. Other methods like reserve to reserve or full tank to full tank are not accurate.

                          ++1
                          Jar method is the most accurate one

                            Madhu, look for a big brinjal to close that large opening if what you use now is not big enough.

                              • I just had my bike serviced from a local mechanic. It seems the bike is running fine now. I had changed the engine oil to veedol 4t oil. But yesterday i saw some oil spilled below my bike. Has any one experienced this problem before.
