Thats pretty good. Considering you rode with luggage and pillion. What was your average speed?

      - we assume all bikes in run-in are less efficient say by 20% ...

we all know the best mileage will be when (several posts have covered in bits)
      - you ride long distance on almost plane road (less hilly)
      - most of your journey is in higher(top i.e sixth) gear; and accelerate as slow as possible and shift up @right RPMs.
      - you open throttle as less as possible; although cruising @40 kmph on GS150R is annoying; I would say about 50-55 kmph @4000 rpm
      - you park in shades; and fuel in your tank is not low; let's say evaporation is inversely proportional to fuel level; however negligible.
      - tire pressure also influences mileage; so does right lubrication (oil, chain, free break movements)
      - weather conditions as well; hot/cold/rainy and cross winds etc

you take 30 min for a 11 kms journey in city traffic @peak hours of day. assuming you spend at most 6 min @signals and ride in rest 24 mins; you ride @27 kmph on average.

      given:
      run-in period => less mileage.

      guesses :
      - you are in lower gears most part of the ride.

Mileage based on 4 ltr mark on fuel gauge is not accurate in a single measurement; you've to make at least 3 of them to arrive at a rough estimate. yes, it's still rough estimate. I do it regularly to keep track of my riding skills and overall mileage of the bike till date.

      Ideal method:
many and most would suggest to go with mileage ride specifically designed for this purpose. senior members will help you with the procedure details.

      1. Does "Not Turning fuel knob to Off" may reduce mileage?
there are no specific figures to confirm this; I guess it's pretty negligible compared to other factors say even compared to tire pressure.

      2. Does short distance travel reduce mileage?
yes, as engaging in lower gears for most part of the ride is very likely.

      3. Does petrol evaporate during non-usage hrs?
yes, you might have observed it at petrol-pumps during fuel refills; boiling point of gasoline starts from 37 Celsius!!!!

1.Finish the run-in period successfully ., Get your 1st service done.
        2. Use full cluth while gear shifting., shift at proper rpm and use the clutch only when shifting gears.

Only this things I know and I'm following now.

PM to Vishnukmd, Maestro , Mach50, Aneesh@4ghz they will guide you fully.

luggage was negligible.. however pillion was not

I had an average more than 60 kmpl; solo riding on NH4 for 600+ kms about avg speed of 50-55 kms.
It's very hard to maintain that speed on wide, free highways which are much appealing for open throttle. I even felt bored for long hours(I guess time stretches @lower speeds; contrary to Einstein).. but recording mileage was bigger concern then...
in other words: your patience will wear off pretty soon.. and you'll open throttle to get some relief..

I guess that's why it's the "Uncle Mode" demanding patience!!

Yes, it is very humbling to see other vehicles overtake you and all the more when its smaller capacity bikes and you know you have enough power under that tank to go past them. But then again thinking logically, what do you do after beating someone to a destination?

The fuel you save will benefit your pocket, and the overall oil crisis And the smooth riding will be good for your bike.

Agree Vikyath., I was overtaken by XL Super's many times in NH45..
But never felt bad about that and didn't attempted to overtake..
But riding at slow speed gives the chance of not missing some goodies along the way..
              So enjoy slow speed..

Agreed. Unless i'm really against the clock, I stay within this range.

Now decide whether this cleaning is essential or not.

Lubing without cleaning the chain will increase the wear of chain and sprocket,You chain seems to be worn out.

The degree of muck depositing on closed chains is very low compared to that in open chain bikes. Also, the chain in question has served 20k kms already and is bound to be worn. Lubing the chain is a lot quicker, safer and less work compared to cleaning, so ultimately its the rider's decision to make whether you spend a considerable amount of time extending the lifetime of a chain or get yourself a new chain a few thousands of kms earlier.

That is shocking information which caused me fainting. I have decided to replace it now itself or, if that is not possible, tomorrow.
If I clean it every day, how long can it be used?

You dont have to clean it everyday,If open clean it every 500kms and if its closed chain,Clean and lube every 1000kms. and cleaning and lubing will increase the life of chain than lubing without cleaning.

Whether cleaning of chain is essential or not is the question. He may have thought that I am a kid using the first bike in my entire life.
I am sorry to say that this type of pseudo experts is making unnecessary fears among the motorcycle riders.
I am absolutely (more than 100%, if it is possible) sure that that chain is not worn out.

How much more life of chain do you expect by this regular, once in a thousand kms cleaning?

See the notches on the chain adjuster. It is, as I said earlier, 19,475 kms old chain.
