have no clues which brand it is because it is SVC oil
even at the time of change the oil (not changed the oil filter)when draining measured and found i got 1200 ml oil (where 6 or 7 day before that SVC filled 1 ltr only)Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Gs150r
Guys,
Really confused with CBZ Extreme, Hunk and GS150R, as far the reviews concerned lot of positives for the GS150R, but my heart beats between CBZ and GS but still as a middle class mind i am thinking about performance, comfort, mileage also. I used travel with my kid and wife and also needs a decent mileage of 50s. Moreover i am at porur and the roads are really pathetic and having lot of potholes. So suspension should be good.
Also read few guys saying that GS is having some problems like Rusting and its good highway commuter only not good for city riding.
I am not having big money to change the bike too often. I want to use this on for a long run may be more than 7 years also.
Guys help me out with the above facts and why should i go for GS150R and also what are the good service centres and showrooms of Suzuki in chennai.
Thanks i just want to book any one of these 3 within the next 3 days.
Help please...Last edited by gobs4u; 10-29-2011, 09:40 AM.

All 3 are reliable 150 cc category bikes. Using them for 7 years will not be a problem if the maintainance is on schedule. All 3 offer good comfort and durability.Originally posted by gobs4u View PostGuys,

You seem to want mileage and performance. Unfortunately they don't go hand-in-hand. All 3 bikes offer horrible mileage if ridden to reach top speed as soon as possible. Also, since the engines on the CBZ-X and Hunk are more powerful, they will offer lower mileage than the GS when ridden sanely. The rusting problem died when the newer batch of bikes were put into production. All 3 bikes which you have mentioned are big bikes and deserve respect from the rider. How well a bike handles in city traffic depends on how well you are able to manage it. All 3 require similar efforts on that front. Coming to highway cruising, The refined engine and 6th gear make the GS the 2nd best touring bike designed in India.
However some people have been facing issues with the service in Chennai. You can PM gmagesh14 and Sriki.GSpian for details.
Summary:
For performance, buy the Hunk or CBZ-X.
For your other requirements- buy the GS150R.In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

It is not a surprise in case of your bike, Madhu. It always performs in a peculiar way, just opposite to what the normal bikes do.

The fuel tank of the new bikes is Teflon coated to resist rusting and need not be bothered about it.
If maintained well and the factory settings are not altered (such alterations are not expected from a Petty Bourgeoisie), GS will give a very good FE if not used for racing.
Some of us like Maestro and Animeher
So, my personal advice is to buy GS. Do a test ride with your kid and wife and decide.
Lal Salam. One inch forward, two feet backward!!

Did anyone ride your bike just before your coming back? If not, you may have kept the bike on side stand for a week and checked the oil level before giving it enough time to flow back.
In the workshop, the bike is put on its centre stand and the oil drain bolt and the oil filter cap bolts are removed to drain the oil. In most cases, 1100 ml of oil is not drained through this process unless the bike is tilted to both sides and kept in that position for a while and straightened again.
More than that, please remember that the oil level we see through that window is not always the same as it takes a long time to deposit back the circulated oil.
Bike was put in center stand and no one used it for a week.
The level was checked as soon as i removed the covers in the same position.
The oil is 1200 km s old of brand MOTUL-MINERAL.
I had few trouble in bringing her to life in cold morning and she was sluggish for about 2 kms and refused to cross 4k rpm.
the drove her for 15km to coll and checked the oil level after parking it .
oil fully covered the strainer screen.

the first thing i would like to advice u is to go and take a test ride of all the 3 bikes...in the test ride, ride all the bikes above 60 in order to see the vibrations u feel in the hunk and the xtreme ! u will come to know about the smoothness and refinement of a suzuki thenOriginally posted by gobs4u View PostGuys,

Does it contract to a level whre it diappears from the strainer screen???Originally posted by antonysg View PostYes, it expands when engine is hot and contracts when cold. But not very noticeable. Even petrol expands and contracts depending on temperature.
IN that case the oil supplied to us in cans would also be in a contracted form.
does oil filter absorb more oil when bike left idle for a week???

It is nothing more than that your mechanic has filled more oil than what is necessary. 900 ml of oil when the filter is not changed and 1000 ml if it is changed is enough for our bike. But almost all are always filling 1100 ml. Drain the excess oil if there is any and replace it yourself in future.

Even in future if i need to drain excess oil it is very difficult since i have made a mistake of installing a engine guard. It was a compliment from my dealer. oill drains through the engine guard making a mess of oilOriginally posted by vishnukmd View PostIt is nothing more than that your mechanic has filled more oil than what is necessary. 900 ml of oil when the filter is not changed and 1000 ml if it is changed is enough for our bike. The density of oil decreases with increase in temperature. Meaning when you ride and the engine is hot, the oil density slightly decreases and its volume very slightly increases, so might notice just a slight increase in level with hot engine.
But if you kept your bike standing and noticed oil volume increased after few days, that i dont think just change in room temperature can cause such noticeable increase in volume of oil.
Engine oils are designed to maintain, as best as possible, a constant density despite temperature increase. But a slight decrease in density of oil does occur due to high temperatures inside engine during riding. So, slight decrease in density results in slight increase in volume, but very minimal.
In fact, in 20W40 oil, here the 20 indicates oil viscosity at low temp and 40 indicates the oil viscosity at high temp, so clearly the viscosity changes with temperature. But does change in viscosity result in change in volume? yes but only slightly.
But why worry about all this physics and chemistry? Use the manufacturer recommended oil grade and oil quantity per manual and just ride your bike.Last edited by antonysg; 10-29-2011, 09:33 PM.

It was an illusion if the bike was on centre stand. Normally the oil is not visible when the bike is on side stand or immediately after a ride. Same is the result if it is leaning slightly to the left side.
Now run the engine for a few minutes, switch it off and check the oil level after 3 minutes while holding the bike vertical without centre stand.

Then, how can you change the oil in future?

Mechanics usually move the guard out of the way before opening the drain nut.Originally posted by newfan View PostEven in future if i need to drain excess oil it is very difficult since i have made a mistake of installing a engine guard.
