Anyway, first i borrowed a mileage can from him, put 100ml fuel and it went 4.7kms (seems like the mileage is pretty less)..
Then later he showed me some carb and by the looks ok the carb, it tooks like clockwise tuning(making screw go more inside) makes mixture richer since it blocks the path of air. and anti clockwise tuning makes it leaner ! (opposite of wat we've been discussing) i checked that carb properly to verify this fact..
Then i checked my plug, its not black or ash coloured so i guess the mixture is pretty fine..

After that he adjusted the air screw to 3 turns anti clockwise after turning it clockwise fully..
Beyond that he couldn't tell why the mileage has dropped to 47. he said try the can again after giving for servicing and tightening the chain (its loose supposedly, but i never experienced any noise from it even though i could push it quite a bit above that upper part of the ring)

And for the sad finale of it all, he took a test ride and agreed that the shifts are notchy !!! he said pulsar 150 shifts are smooth and unicorn is much better (that makes 3 people who've told me this, 2 friends also said this to me before)
Things are turning out very odd and funny
Actually the SC people are very fond and are stuck to the Co2 Analyzer...
They close the carb too much and decrease the tappet clearance....
This results in very low pickup and some how impacts mileage figures due to inefficient output power....

Now, finally the users are becoming experts in tuning their bikes
My mileage was 38kmpl, now i have some how tuned it to 47kmpl, but still i can feel the bike is underpowered. May be next service, i may have to ask these SC people to correct tappet i suppose.

      • Cost cutting in the 2010 GS.... no adjustable Shifter

@anup.. I dont think meddling with the shifter is any good. Its like how siva said. If you want to apply less force to the shifter... you will have to move it farther. If you want to increase leverage you could increase the length of yellow or red(or even both), reduce the length of blue. The green has no effect on leverage as far as I see it. It is just a connector...

Change your oil to a better one. its much better idea for smoother gearshifts.

Oh and Anup how is your bike so clean in this rains?? I had to pressure wash it today... with Rs.60....
With great Power(and Torque) comes great responsibility.

        • It was time for the second service for my GS hence i decided to take it to the showroom. Since i stay away from city i planned to travel to velachery and stay at my friend s place as the bike service station is in velachery.

          30-06-2010

I leave home around 6pm and start enjoying the ride, not the bike has settled down and i love the paper/feather ruffling engine sound exhibited by this machine.I plan to do some shopping at egmore and then go back to my friends place. Took a small break at saidapet and when i saw my bike glistening in the night time my face had a wide grin. Look at this , its a cam picture with poor quality but it really looked better than this.

I spotted around 5 GS bikes which was a refreshing change. I usually never spot any. Then i retired for the day

          01-07-2010

          Salary day!!!

I wake up with dreams as its salary day and i have just been given a raise. Time to go to the showroom for service, booked with the service center person, 2 days in advance since i had to wait during the service, as i cant leave it for service for a day and come back later as its too far from my place. SMK Suzuki, the dealer in velachery is very understanding. I reached the showroom at 9:45 Am.

My RC Book and Insurance was finally ready and i am in for a surprise. In the RC book, in the color column, its mentioned as orange, mine is a black, i notify them and they say that they will get it changed. I take a xerox and give it back to them.

My only issue was with high beam adjustment as it was pointing towards the sky, and gearshifts being harder. Both were rectified and bike looking like a glistening beauty after the service. Camera pictures does not do any justice.

          Just after service.

Tried a nice shot but camera was not upto it.

Had a nice and smooth ride back home, covered 55kms in less than an hour.

          • @Anup... Your chain are clearly visible. So you are using without the chain cover ? Saw in your connector pics.

M still waiting for my bike. mostly will take delivery tomorrow. i wish he changed the RR unit as promised.

i wish anup or mach in chennai for tuning my carb too

              Review Of GS150R named SE7EN

Here is a detailed review of my lovely bike, i have tried to cover all aspects, hope its informative. Mostly i would have compared all aspects to a pulsar, since i owned a pulsar 150 classic with self start for 7 years. Since i was in the market after selling my pulsar, i wanted something similar to pulsar, but well refined, this was the bike which was close to what i had in mind.

              STYLING:

              >ODO - I was never a fan of digital odos, i almost went towards unicorn because of this, but somehow made up my mind towards GS and i am glad that i did that now. When i sit on the bike i love what i see. I really mean it. Please see it for yourself. A picture of my odo when my bike crossed 2000 kms

In the right top , there are two colored indicators for Neutral and High-Beam. Then we have a Orange colored display which first shows the speed in kms and the mode display. There are three modes , ECO/POWER/ mode. The empty mode is also known as god mode. In ECO mode when the rpm exceeds 4500 the flashlight starts to flash, and for power mode the light starts flashing at 8500 rpm. In god mode there are no warning lights meaning that you know your limits. In ECO mode the best mileage i got was 56. The worst mileage was obviously in POWER mode 42, but that was in very high spirited driving , just after the run-in period was over ;-) . Then it shows the Total kms covered or TRIP A or TRIP B. Yes it has two trip meters, my pulsar had a manual trip meter which was usually reset by someone mostly in parking, hence i love this digital odo, where only i can reset it. Finally the fuel gauge , which has 5 blocks to represent it, with each block almost representing 4 liters, and the last block represent 4 liters, and the block starts blinking when petrol is very low. I usually keep my tanks full, so it has not got to that point yet.

To the left,It has a needle rpm meter, gear shift indicator very useful as you have 6 gears. It also has a flash white light in the bottom left to indicate whether you are exceeding the specified rpm limit in the respective modes, POWER or ECO.

              >FUEL TANK

The fuel tank is huge and holds upto almost 20 litres, and it still might have place to hold a bit more petrol, good for 1000 kms at one shot without refuelling.

              XTP, means Extra Torque performance

              >SIDES

The side profile looks good, but it does not differ from other bikes on the offering in India, most of the persons, who sees my bike first asks whether its an Unicorn?

              Yeah Six Speed

              • RVMS:

                STOCK RVM View:

The stock rear view mirrors did not allow full view from the behind, hence i replaced this with the pulsar RVMS and visibility has improved a lot

View with Pulsar RVM after replacement:

                >FRONT:

The front almost looks like unicorn and power from the Headlight is just adequate, but it should have been better

                >REAR:

I love the rear light and indicators, it looks so nice, i guess it takes the hues from suzuki hayabusa.

                STORAGE:

Below the seat there are 2 Helmet locks and space for tool kit, first aid kit and papers, very useful feature.Sorry no pictures

                Comment

                • TIRES:

                  >FRONT:

The front tires are similar to other bikes offered, but the alloy design is curved and unique, also note that the disc brake is on the left hand side against the norm of right side disc brakes in India

                  >REAR:

The rear tire is just adequate, brake is something which you would want to improve, as i feel no difference between my classic pulsar brakes and this bike. The drum brake is also just adequate.

                  PERFORMANCE:

The responds nicely to throttle, and it is more of a silent performer, overtakes at high speeds, but the initial acceleration is a bit low. Am not much of a technical guy, so i dont have any other information to provide here.

                  HANDLING & ROAD PRESENCE:

The bike is heavy and hence better stability at high speeds, it does not dance when some big vehicle overtakes you with high speed.
Braking should be done sensibly with both the front and back brakes, simply applying rear brakes, does not help at all.

This bike has an awesome road presence, when some vehicles, even buses which try to overtake from the opposite side, when i drive in a single lane road, then never flash their lights and come towards me, even a bully Scorpio saw me with this bike and hid behind a bus, i am not exaggerating but trying to project what it really means to drive this on the road. RESPECT MY AUTHORITA![South park style]

                    1) Side stand Indicator, its must, i had it in my old pulsar.
                    2) Better rear brakes

                    Things i Love:

                    1)Engine Sound
                    2)6th Gear
                    3) Gear lever just like pulsar, not Toe-shifting ones, as it tends to damage my shoes.

My son Sufi loves this bike and his expressions says it all.

                      • Back from the bi-state G2G 700kms grossed in two days and within 8 hours of ride time in total which included, tea stops and lunch stops let it be grossed upto 1hour fifteen minutes.which means we had an average speed of 110kmph+.

My GS150R did 128kmph top speed as indicated by my bike And I was just after a Karizma doing 138kmph on speedo. The Suzuki GSR is really a very tough 150cc bike. The bike cruise at its top speeds for hours together, without any protest from the engine !!!! As I was doing the trailing job in the group,I really had to sweep up the slower bikes in the group and while catching upto the rest of the group,I blasted past at 116-117kmph overtook trucks at 122kmph with the likes of RTR160,RTR180 and R15 following my lead, then let them by,as they fall into the moving group, and I slow back to 105kmph for the trailer position It was fun playing the cruise game with this bike.Nevertheless we also had a Yamaha YZFR1 in our group ..................and also a bajaj platina but when we had our tea or drag racing halts,The platina was told to keep riding, which we would catch up within few minutes

There were reasons why the owner of the R1,enquired about my bike leaving aside everything else,he plans to sell off his P220 Dtsfi of his daily use and buy this versatile bike

Here is a picture of our bikes parked, from the back.

Thanks buddy, today i discussed the matter with my lecturer and he gave the same answer. So I gave up the idea of modifying the shifter.

Change your oil to a better one. its much better idea for smoother gearshifts.
My bike has been running on Castrol Activ 4T for around 1K, till 500 kms it was ok. Definitely wont use this oil again. I'm joining for a training and wont be able to ride her for 4 months. Plans to change oil once i return home to either Motul or Gulf.

Oh and Anup how is your bike so clean in this rains?? I had to pressure wash it today... with Rs.60....
I did 4th service a week ago and since then has been washing her after every outings. Removed all dirt I could remove, cleaned chain as well(thats when I took those snaps). If we remove the chain cover we can clean many unreachable places.

                          Guys should I disconnect battery?

                          @ Raj

Man this tuning is no big deal, just do a trial and error method. I used the tuning set by S.C and kept on making the mixture rich till I got better throttle response and mileage. Usually every S.C set the carb to a leaner side.

4 months is pretty long. guess its better to disconnect the battery.. but then you'll have to maintain the charge in the battery too as per the manual specifications for battery storage..

I'm giving my bike for 7th service tomorrow..
things i plan to tell are:
chain is loose(checked with that rubber cap method)

Gear shifts aren't smooth either. (any specific thing i should tell them to adjust here ?? used the shell fast trac for around 30kms, its not made shifting smooth, would oil take 100kms to settle in, or is this oil bad? )

And regarding my mileage of 47, i have a feeling it could be tyre pressure. i've not checked tyre pressure for......... i guess last 4 months atleast..
But while touching it, it looks like the pressure is fine only. do the SC people fill air in tyre while servicing ?
And could this be the reason for drop in mileage from say 52 to 47 ?
(please reply fast, have to decide whether to tell them to tune carb or not)

While all the riding conditions remain same its unusual to drop this much. Even thought its your 7th service, you havent done more than 6 K (I guess so !!) may be engine is still settling. Anyway ask them to tune, and if its not giving decent mileage tune by yourself.
