    • first svc

got my first svc done today...was charged 320/-...bikes a little smoother...havent taken it out for a long run though..just from svc to home..

One issue is with the gear lever..its a bit longish i feel..its a little difficult to shift using the heel shifter while also keeping the toes on the toe shifter...

Consulted the chief mech at the svc for a solution...The reply was "use the toe shifter"...Well i asked him if it was possible to replace the gear lever with that of the sling shot..But that was not possible as the two are quite different in the way they are connected to the gears....

the one on the gs is not directly connected.it is connected by way of a small connecting rod, whereas the one on the slingshot is directly connected....

Never had this prblm on my old ybx though...by now though iam used to shifting by toe....
      currently using gs150r/palio stile multijet

      Yamaha--53000kms
      M800---57000kms

Actually I didn’t notice it earlier. XTP is extra torque power which helped to ride at low speeds in higher gear (even at 28-30 kmh in top gear); not TPS. I don’t know why that sticker is removed. May perhaps be because the gear ratios are changed.
Whatever the power to weight ratio or having XTP or not, the new bike too can easily be ridden at the same low speed in 6th gear. I have checked it while test riding.

Is it very difficult to move your feet a little to and fro to shift gear? Then how is the car or truck driver using the same foot to accelerate and brake? Keep the heel on the heel shifter up to 6th gear and move it forward for downshifting. It is not comfortable to up-shift using toe shifter in our bike.

My apologies, it's called "Torque Link". You can find it on the right side of rear wheel, just below rear break nut.

I'm not understanding the physics behind it.

It is mainly to prevent the movement of hub cover and to keep it in position.

Hence can anyone please suggest any ideas to get a handle bar with more height or any other additions like the one in avenger/eliminator(handle bar riser).

I find it is the common stance for everybody riding this bike to lean forward slightly. I for one, find this stance is good and doesnt allow me to slouch my back even when I am driving long distances. There is a slight weight on my wrists always and less strain on my back muscles.

Still, I feel it should not be a problem to get the handle replaced, which any local mechanic can do. I do not have the requisite knowledge to recommend handles for you though.

Siva, if you are tall, this bike is ideal even for city driving. If you are traveling 100kms. a day even then you wont find the driving strain as it is quite similar to driving a Bullet, which is currently the choice for everybody.

i saw a model of GS in jav showroom adayar.. at there they show there is an digital meter in the bike. but the didn't explain it's purpose clearly and the switch which is present at the bottom of the digital meter...

he said that the purpose of the switch is for trip but i study the review in mouthshut they describe it as a power and economic mode... which is correct and what is the purpose of that mode

                            Long distance travel... e.g.:
                            - once I rode my GS 250 kms in 3 hours(took no breaks); that's more than 80 avg.
                            - ridden more than 3000 kms in long hauls, each haul(breaks in between) minimum of 250 kms in length..

keep your bike in good condition and you'll love long hauls.. also keep necessary tools/back-ups in your backpack.

yes, there are two buttons below digital display. you can
                            - adjust ride mode, ECO, PWR or no-mode..
                            - adjust/reset trips, Trip-A and Trip-B
                            - adjust clock on the digital console; great feature

was taken away by the name with "Torque" in it. It just holds the rear-break drum-setup in place while we apply break.

Do we have to adjust it when we tighten drive chain?

The riding comfort of our bike is mainly due to the sitting posture of the rider and it is not altered even in the new GS though there are some minor drawbacks due to it.
An altered riding position may not be comfortable to you. If you still like to modify it, a local mechanic may be helpful, as Rajesh said.

                                legend is Maestro.

The switch you mentioned is to select and adjust trip meters, clock, Economy and Power modes etc as Sparkot said. The economy mode offers better FE if you are riding in that zone.

                                No. it is not adjustable.
