Hi Swaroop , congratulations on your selection.

Omg!! I am flat on your Red-Rosy & Black beauty.

Your bike looks bit more elegant with that metal guard; I didn’t get one with my white GS.

New generation GS (2014 manufacturing ) have been facing front disc issue and there is squealing sound without hampering the bite but it’s so irritating; I faced the same issue but resolved during 1st servicing. Please post your comments if you face same issue. Enjoy your ride .....& take care of your babay..

It’s been now 1610 km clocked ODO and machin is getting silky smooth & every ride is pretty enjoyable.

So my query here to old GSpien is it a good time to go on long tour with consistent speed more than 70+ since I have nearly finished the break-in period (without crossing the rpm limits).

      1. Replaced Exhaust gasket & hex-bolts. Gasket was in good condition though; rusting hex-bolts were the reason for replacement.
      2. Cleaned chain, chain-cover using kerosene.
      3. removed left foot peg & pillion left foot peg assembly; cleaned gear shift lever.
      4. lubed lever & peg components with grease; reassembled in reverse order.
      5. lubed chain with EP120 gear oil with generous amount; till it was dripping. Rear wheel was rotated continuously during lubing step.
      6. excess EP120 & grease were wiped dry as they attract more dirt.

      Issues:
      1. one of the silencer chrome heat guard hex-bolt was jammed from previous actions(SVC?). I couldn't open the heat guard for cleaning as the inner side was showing rust.
      2. didn't attempt gear-shifter jugad; as straightening final piece alone isn't sufficient; observed wearing on link rod.
      3. cable-ties are falling off; nearing their end of life. Got to get a dozen each of those.
      4. last time I replaced chain-sprocket set I misaligned chain-slider; today while cleaning noticed that it lost the rib...

      11-Jun-2014 planned
      PAIR system + Carb check/inspection.

      - Now you're authorised by Owner's Manual for WOT(Wide[full] Open Throttle). However, keep varying RPM through out the RPM range on highway.
      - Do not cross 10 K RPM

If I remember correctly when my ODO was around 1700 km I rode home 300km from Bengaluru, solo.

      cheers

PS: share a photo of your white GS150R.

        11-Jun-2014 Update:

        1. removed PAIR (Padmini) system, couldn't unscrew the cover so left it there. Service manual suggests to check PAIR every 4000 kms.
        2. removed Carburetor, found rust(white & greenish) powder in TPS coupler; cleaned both pins & socket.
        3. float was clean

        4. checks
        • throttle(butterfly) value working fine
        • tps resistances were not in specified ranges; Closed (0.8 k ohms), WOT (4.9 k ohms)
        • Main jet clean; needle jet with 14 pores clean; pilot jet clean
        • carb slide & diaphragm clean & is working fine

        5. found dark deposits on the tip of AFR/Pilot screw; cleaned it & sprayed some chain-clean spray into pilot screw hole.
        6. sprayed some into main/jet-needle hole; pilot jet hole; choke(rich-starter) hole;

        Notable points:
        1. Only deposits found on pilot screw tip; rest of carb is clean & healthy.
        2. rust found in TPS coupler

        Pilot screw turns:
        Factory/Stock per Service manual : 2.0 outward
        SVC set using CO-Analyser : 2.125 outward
Current (own) : 2.5 outward (throttle response is good, able to pull from 16/17 kmph in 3rd gear)

One full turn : 3600 full screw rotation.

        Issue(s):
        - choke start is still hovering around 2000 RPM; it used to be 3000 RPM before tank cleaning.

        cheers

Have you checked the Choke wire ? try lubricating the choke knob on the handle bar.

Choke plunger is operating perfectly, I'm suspecting choke fuel path, not sure though.

              Hi All ,

just wanted to know something.. its off topic. but still somebody might be able to help. I didnt see anyother thread to ask info. like this. so only posting here..

We are planning to go to skandagiri (70 kms from blore) in bike ( my GS, one unicorn and a thunderbird 350) , this coming satrday night. Is night trekking allowed there now ? when googling, some page says its banned. if allowed, by what time should we reach there. ?

recently did 11th service @ 9star suzuki, hosaroad. changed oil filter, oil. No other parts changed. Total bill amount was 973

              oil filter : 30
              oil : 270
              general service : 350
              washing + polishing : 90
              consumables : 90
              chain lubrication : 60
              + tax.

All these are approx values as i dont have the bill with me right now. but i remember the cost was something like this.

anything else to take care when going for a trip at night ? our gs's light is a bit concern

Sparkot, I think it says inspect valve clearance every 4000 kms (apart from initial 1000 km service). And under that heading, they recommend removing some parts of PAIR - to enable easy access to the valve caps (?).

It was a bad idea sharing the manual with you, you stripping your GS down part by part each day. But I think you would have done the same even if you didn't have the manual!

                • Suzuki GS150R : Carburetor Choke & Pilot-Jet issue fixed

Alright, I had to open the Carb yet again.

                  - I was growing restless over the night knowing Choke & Pilot-Jet issues still prevailing.
                  - After watching BS-26 Carburetor's video esp Choke & Pilot-Jet circuits(air & fuel pathways), I was teeming with confidence.
                  - Removed Carb again this morning.

A look at float bowl, carb-slide & float with jets in between.

                  - Notice how I mutilated Jet's screw head using wrong tool (generic screw driver). Find a screw driver head bit which has snug fit with screw heads for optimal work.

Every jet has three end points
                  • Air entry/passage
                  • Fuel entry/passage
                  • Air-Fuel mixture exit/outlet

                  - I knew Main-Jet path was clear & working properly as the bike was responding well between 0.25 to 1.0(WOT) throttle.
                  - Cleaned Pilot-Jet & Choke-Jet pathways repeatedly by closing one end-point while spraying Clean through remaining end-points alternatively.
                  - Doubly made sure the cleaning liquid is coming out at expected outlet/inlet clearly.
                  - In case of Pilot-Jet I had to consider Pilot-Screw involved in bypass-pathway. i.e four end-points in this case.

As expected Choke-Jet fuel passage was clogged & Pilot-Jet outlet passage(3-small-holes) had similar fortune.

Take a look at how Pilot-Jet outlets are vulnerable:

                  Voila,

                  - All clean passages brought grin back on my face.
                  - Reassembled everything in reverse order
                  - Pilot screw @ factory/stock 2.0 turns
                  - Choke working properly now Howzzat ?

                  NOTES:
                  - (rode with a screw driver for on-the-road carb tuning): Followed carb tuning procedure. Found engine was responding better around 2.0 turns (stock) at idling
                  - do not open choke-plunger frequently; you may clog Choke-Jet passage easily.
                  - use screw drivers with snug fit heads to unscrew jets; avoid removing them unnecessarily.
                  - do not use wires to clean jet passages however appealing it is.

PS: Another valuable resource worth mentioning:

Check Periodic Maintenance Chart on 2-02 page; yeah it is a boon to have service manual by our side. However, I wouldn't let it take all the credit here. @dip097 shared that GS150R's Mikuni BS Carburetor video which helped a lot.

                              • Replace spark plug every 7000 kms (8k for Access and GS).
                              • Replace engine oil initially at 1000 and then every 3000 kms. Oil Filter change at alternate oil changes (4k oil change for Access and GS).
                              • Replace final gear oil every 6500-7000 kms (8k for Access/Swish).
                              • Grease wheel bearings every 7000 kms (10k for Access).
Perhaps, Suzuki wants to keep dealers happy. It's really hard to predict market dynamics. I'm seeing couple of Let's scooters puttering around in our layout near E-City(BLR) already .

I used to despise USA during my college days after discovering the fact that on avg every US family has at least one car. And look where we're heading; I guess it's easy to manipulate humans(social-beings).

Experts help please. I am getting mileage of 35 to 40 KMPL in my GS150R. How to improve this? I drive mostly in city traffic with 50% of time with a pillion.
