+1 madhu ..it also applies to cheap and best car TATA ...i heard from friend who is working in Gabrieal a shock absorber co he told me that ,when tata approach them they will tell this is the cost ..do what ever cost cutting ..when Toyota approached them they told, take whatever cost quality is not compromised

Ur words proved here" lowest best quote" for Tata cars and similar bike company's

So the mileage, assuming average 62rs per liter cost for petrol, comes to be amazing 55! This with a pillion (wife), quite heavily packed saddlebags, tankbag and two handbags. The weight on the bike easily exceeded 130 KGs all the time!

For people complaining about mileage, take matters in your own hand and tune it yourself.

Another thing, for any night tourers, get HID. I traveled the Bodi-Munnar ghat at night, which wouldn't be so easy on stock headlight. I was blessing the HID (I call it 'portable sun' ) all the time.
Awesome bro...how u feel "Gods own country"....if u travel Bodi- munnar in day time ..u find so much of scenery but scary too..How u rated jeepwala in kerala My favorite Hill station around south is Munnar....I hope u enjoyed this trip with GS and HID ..Ur GS rocks in mileage

          • @ vishnu,

It seems the bike was kept in open-air for a long time may be an year and didn't maintained at all

Once my uncles suzuki Ax 100 reached the worst condition as he left it untouched for couple of years, by luck engine and few core parts are in good condition we took almost three months and spent close to 30k (in year 1995) to restore it.

Yesterday happen to met a guy who is working for 3M company, they have products that protects bike and car parts from rusting and he said they are giving 5 years warrenty sounds good it costs 5000 for a car is it worthy.
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

            • Fuel??

Guys i put 10 litres of fuel in the bike and the tank looks 3/4 full(hardly had any fuel before)..the indicator shows full on start up and then 1 bar less after some distance. is this fuel indicator reliable???

I am still unable to stop the bike in neutral so i cut the engine in 1st gear and then shift to neutral..will this harm the bike?

The fuel indicator is ok.. but with few bugs... .... The level shows higher fuel when the bike is on side stand and little less when on wheels... Also there is a considerable difference when on central stand.[Still not able to figure that out] .... Guess the measurement is done in the left side of the tank..
You should not have any problem in shifting to neutral irrespective of whether the bike is on or off. Get it checked from the SC. Cutting the engine in 1st gear and then shifting to neutral will not harm the bike to the best of my knowledge [some body please correct me here if I'm wrong].

yes i had these problems too...the fuel measurement is done on the left of the tank thats y it indicates more fuel when kept on side stand.

The neutral problem is faced by almost all new bikes except a very few select models. One thing that u can do which i also did is to go get done the clutch setting by the svc. They will set it so that the difference between 1-N-2 is more(i mean u will get more feedback and it'll not be so sensitive like in a new bike), that way u can shift to neutral a bit easily, but the prob with that is when u r shifting quickly (like for example leaving when the signal turns green) u may accidentally shift into neutral,u will get used to this after some time but will face it initially like i did.

Yes Not reliable in my case...with single bar it travels 100km sometimes
My SC told can't adjust or clean it due to sensor inside the tank

Note this is for my case only don't worry br

I bought my GS in Jan this year....nearly 2900Kms covered on the ODO...
Actually to be frank I never faced any gear related problem in my bike....
From the first day itself the gears were butter smooth....and in fact I can assure you that GS is one of the bikes in which you can get the neutral very easily....
try doing it in the P 150 or the Apache 180....it can be real pain...!!
For me in the GS the the gears are the best part....I saw that many people complained of hard gear shifts and this neutral thing....

But I never faced this anytime....even after continous driving in this Hyderabad Hot FURNACE climate....the gears are really smooth...my Pulsar 150 gears used to get stiff once the engine becomes really hot after long riding....well Lucky me I suppose in case of gears atleast.....

Till date no problem faced...only the initial ones...where there was air locking in the petrol tank....and the bike used to turn off suddenly and refused to start again atleast for 2-3 mins...
But now this is solved...very very happy with the bike...

yeah it didn't just stop. Kinda gave me hints. but I was surprised and worried that there was fuel but it stopped. I thought that once the bar started to blink then it would be on reserve. what is the exact reserve limit?

clutch I will get it looked up. Lets hope for the best.

Bro...is there any air blocking in the petrol tank.....I mean when you ride for sometime say 1/2hr....and then open the petrol tank lid....and then the air escapes out of the tank as if it is in pressure.....!!
Check this out....when you are driving....it might be the problem...i faced this problem when the bike was new....this generally happenns as the bike is kept for long time without being used....
once the SVC people removed the blocakge in the 1st service...now the bike is excellent.....

To engage the neutral gear, release the accelerator, fully disengage the clutch by pulling the clutch lever and give a very slight pressure on the gear lever. This will minimise the difficulty.
But, why are you over bothered about the neutral as the bike can be started in any gear?

                              • Gear issue!!

hi guys thanks for the quick replies..

I will check the issue of the air pressure built up in the tank after long ride today. I did have a feeling that there is some issue with fuel line. On neutral after switching on the bike it stutters for a bit. Actually managed to cut off a couple of times also. So I have to get it checked.

About not being able to put the bike in neutral its not a major issue yet. Just that in a traffic jam sometimes it becomes very difficult to hold the clutch till there is movement as the bike will not go to neutral. Will report that to SVC and see what happens. Same issue while parking also. On first gear moving the bike backwards seems to a bit hard. I can feel some kind of BRAKE force stopping it going back. Is this normal?

Can someone advice me how to interpret the serial number of a bike. As in where does the year of make and model number etc show in the serial number with an example. It will help all others also.
