    Correction. 5.5-6k every 4k kms.

Also, the maintenance of the bike totally depends on the user. If he/she maintains it well (chain clean, chain lube, completing the run-in period as instructed, using good petrol, not ripping the bike unnecessarily, avoiding half clutch) this bike will last for a very long time.

I have an Apache RTR 160. If I maintain NYX the same way I maintain my Apache, it's going to cost a bomb in the long run.

Sir, agreed that above points you stated for chain & sprocket maintenance are correct but what if rider maintains bike well, life of chain sprocket sets can be increased to another 2-3k kms and that will still be short interval to change it if we look at the cost of the chain sprockets, I think benelli will have to think about cost and wear - tear of chain sprocket set again.

        1. Do they clean and lube the chain every 500-700 kms or at least max 1k kms ? - YES THEY DO one of them has a automatic chain lubricator
        2. Once they ride in rain/mud/sand, do they clean the chain after reaching the destination ? Yes they do it and i can say because we ride with them.
        3. Driving in a higher gear in slow speed damages the chain/sprocket. - Yes but so early ??
        4. Do they accelate really strong especially in lower gears ? - (All are experiences riders and they dont accelerate hard)
        5. Do they use engine braking excessively ?
        - Dont know about this.

The chain sprocket not only comes down to the maintenance, also, the torque wrench used to tighten the chain has to be according to the weight of the rider or does he carry a pillion. According to this, they tighten the chain at the service center, the chain sprocket wearing out under such a short interval, this could also be one reason. May not the riders fault completely here.

when 1 of the riders wrote to Benelli he got a reply that its a normal wear and tear part and the wear and tear depends on riders style of riding.
Also the parts are very expensive total cost is upto Rs 15000 and that too at a short interval.

so for some one who has done 6k kms must have done 2 service = 3800 + 5000(2nd Service)+ chain replacement 15000.
It will be a burden for all who have taken loan.

This will affect us as soon as we come near 6000 also.

That's the DSK tax, we have to pay, I believe. Price the bike low, then jack up the spares prices to squeeze out a regular income. Good business strategy.

On the quality aspect, there is no reason the chain and sprocket should wear out in 5k. In comparison, the cbr250r sprocket and chain costs a bit around 2.5k, and many users reported they lasted 20,000 kms. My set is currently at 24,000 kms, with at least 2k kms to go, despite high rpm riding in both city and freeway

Yes that's the worrying part, the maintenance costs you are talking about can be compared to some of the superbikes. Chain-sprockets sets for a 300cc machine should run for atleast 12k kms.

I had thought that the ownership cost of Ninja 300 was max in the 250-400cc category.

This puts a lot of doubts in my head.

I have no problem in spending 6k for regular service. But if the parts wear out so quickly, it's time to close the loan, sell the bike and get a better one.

Guys, just check & confirm if how many of you are REALLY facing the chain wear issue within short kms (<8000kms), as it may be an isolated issue arising out of faulty service or any other cause rather than due to quality of chain. In Mumbai many have reported to SVC it seems but not sure.
Mine is also gone for a toss at 5.5k
                        Also spending 6k every 4000kms?

Spending approximately 6k for 4k kms or 4 months for regular servicing.

Just got done with the 3rd Paid Service at 8250kms.

Rear Brake Pads needs to be changed. They did not have stock so would do so in a week or so. Estimated cost - 650 + labour (400).

Chain Sprocket - is intact and no signs of wear and tear. I lube mine every 1000kms using Tribocor. As someone already mentioned proper maintenance is necessary for the chain sprocket to last and perform. And the only thing that is harmful for the chains is not lubing it regularly. Rest all factors have very minimal effect on the chain.

                                1. Engine Oil - Rs. 2475/- for 3 Liters

                                3. Air Filter - Rs. 476/-
                                4. Consumable - Rs. 570/-
                                5. General Service Charge - Rs 2394/- (new rates effective Jan 2016 - has been increased from 1500 to 2100 pre tax)

                                all amounts inclusive taxes.

                                Total Amount : - Rs 6227/-

I paid Rs. 1000/- less as they had wrongly charged me the 600i service charge during my second service.

One thing is for certain. I am not servicing at SVC post my warranty period.

Reasons : I have no concerns over the workmanship. So far I have had a good experience.

                                However my concerns are :
                                1. Enforcing change of engine oil every 4000kms. - Used oil had good texture while being drained out. Same oil is used for 12K kms (got this confirmed from n300 user). This in turn is waste of money and oil. work around - Move to a cheaper oil which is good for 4000kms and get service done till warranty gets over.
                                2. High Service Charge - Rs. 2394/- per service. would equate to over Rs. 24000/- (including engine oil) for me in 12 months. It's six months and I have already done my 3rd service. Average 6K per service. My VW Polo has a service interval of 15K kms and costs around Rs. 15000/- including engine oil.

Please note that in the above scenario the issue is only stupid policies and high costs stated by DSK. Else if you are maintaining your bike on your own, service costs will be way way less.
