Yes, it is true. I am in the process of discussion with DSK on the same.Originally posted by umang75 View PostHave heard that the price of brake pads for rear wheel has been increased from around Rs 800 to Rs 4,300 approx.
It was Rs. 623/- for rear brake pad set earlier and now it's Rs. 4300/-
A 6 times increase doesn't make any sense.
Ironically the front brake pads (mine isn't worn but i bought two sets anyway to stock) is still 648 bucks a set.

Apparently they increased the price of the 300's brake pads after a customer complained that the tnt25's brake pads were more expensive than the 300's!Originally posted by brokenbinil View PostYes, it is true. I am in the process of discussion with DSK on the same.

Now if you go ask them why the rear pads cost 4.3k while the front pads cost 680, they will increase the price of the front pads also.

That's plain stupidity DSK is doing. They are blaming the source, QJ, saying that concern is raised and we might see results in a month or two. God only knows. Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
I have munched 3300kms on my TNT 300 and faced my first issue today. For the past 1 week temperature was spiking to 100 and above in normal short rides, I thought it must be radiator but did not take care to check if the fan is functioning . Today I was from home (perambur-chennai) to guduvanchery (office) . On the move it was below 100(90-94) once I was riding after some traffic signal stops near vandalur(5kms before office) it got spiked. In guduvanchery(2kms before office) it showed h20 and I stopped the vehicle and saw the coolant draining out below engine via the drain tube. Once I came to office noticed that radiator fan not switching ON and there was a coolant overflow tube below engine which took out the coolant due to pressure. Have any of you faced the same situation, its been just four months i bought the vehicle i now doubt the quality of benelli.
Thanks In advance.Respect the brotherhood Ride for the one behind you, anyone can twist the throttle. When you are in need be responsible.

Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
Hi there Guys!
I am new on xbhp and have been following this thread right from the start.
A Little about me, well I'm forty years young and getting back to biking after almost 14 years hence was looking at options which suited my kind of biking. I'm not a fan of break-neck speeds but love the adrenaline rush of occasional high speeds runs. So my requirement was a bike that I could use daily within city and an occasional highway weekend get away! I love the naked bikes for their flickibility not that the fully-faired bikes cant do it, but just that I'm more comfortable on the naked. Secondly I somehow could never get around to fixed headlamp as in a Fully Faired bike, I like the headlight pointing in the direction of my travel. Was waiting for the Pulsar CS400 which was then later renamed to Pulsar VS 400 which now I understand is going to be branded completely different from the Pulsar Brand... though beats me why
. Well the delay in the launch made me look at other options including the Himalayan which also I liked but then I'm not much of a tourer so didn't make sense. Another friend of mine has a Benelli 600i & he's super happy and asked me to look at the same. 600 was way beyond my budget in fact did not want to invest more than Rs.200000/- as of now. So what was falling into my budget were the CS400 or the Himalayan and I wanted the bike on or before my Birthday next week.
Then I came across an advertisement on OLX for a sparingly used Benelli TNT 300 registered in January 2016 for Rs.260000/-. Did a lot of research here on this forum and this thread especially, thanks to the relevant information shared by all the knowledgeable people here, thank you to all. Which then helped me in getting myself the Benelli TNT 300 for myself. I may have paid more but I was happy that the bike had hardly been used with just 1980Kms on the clock in 9 months and the sweet exhaust was just too intoxicating for me. Just took the hand-over on 4th October 2016 and rode it back all the way which was around 30Kms away from home and my what a ride!
Initially I kept feeling it shall take me a little time to get used to it but I suddenly realised that I took to it like a fish to water. On quite a few no traffic section of the highways I could take her all the way to 120Kms/hr and could also potter in 6th gear at 45Kms/hr which is so good. I also discovered that you could pull her in any gear and she just keeps giving you more. N after 7000rpm this machine becomes a beast with a note also which sounds like one!
Filled full tank Shell on way as they don't have many outlets within city. In any case I always fill full tank to full tank in all my vehicles.
I am in love again!!
Please do excuse any errors in my post, as this is my first post ever, period!Would improve over time I guess...
sorry for making it lengthy!

Yes Plain stupidity by DSK for increasing the price to match the other products in the line up, but how can they do this ? this is totally unethical.Originally posted by brokenbinil View PostThat's plain stupidity DSK is doing. Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
Seems like a temperature sensor issue. Please don't ignore abnormal temperature readings. As one thing could lead to another. Would recommend not ti ride in such condition and use RSA to take it to SVC and get it checked. What ever the issue, should be fixed in warranty.Originally posted by murali_db View PostI have munched 3300kms on my TNT 300 and faced my first issue today. If you keep running the machine in such conditions the engine gaskets can give away, resulting in mixing of coolant n engine oil. Best to get it checked asap.
n Yeah H20 is a fail safe which cuts of the engine if the temperature goes beyond 112 degrees Celsius. (not exactly sure of the upper limit). It helps doing further damage to the bike or engine.

Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
Ownership experience at 24000 Km & 7th service
Age: 1 year 5 months
Km: 24007
Purpose: Used mostly for motorcycle travels. Very rarely used for commute.
Longest ride in a day: 1400+ km (Pachmarhi, MP to Bangalore)
Best Performance: 4000 km in 5 days (Bangalore- Rann of Kutch - Bangalore); 3900+ km in 7 days
Highway mileage: 28 kph
City mileage: 22kph
Best performance when at between 90 kph to 130 kph*
Top speed 168 kph**
I think above mentioned facts and figures should tell one about how strong a performer this beast is. You can just keep munching miles. And engine never feels stressed.
I must say that this is a beautiful machine but I feel it's marred by exorbitant service and spares charges. But I was told by DSK service head (South) that the service charges and spare costs are at par with other manufacturers in the class and segment and they hike the prices only after reviewing prices in the market by competitors. I am not sure about this. So others can throw light on this***
SERVICE CHARGES:
1st Service: Rs 3348.78 [ Engine oil, oil filter and consumables. Labor was free ]
2nd Service: Rs 5066.98 [ Engine oil, oil filter, consumables & labor - Rs 1500 ]
3rd Service: Rs 5076.98 [ Engine oil, oil filter, consumables & labor - Rs 1500 ]
4th Service: Rs 8479.00 [ Engine oil, oil filter, sponge filter, Spark plug, consumables, injector holder, Brake fluid, & labor - Rs 3091 ]
5th Service: Rs 7641.00 [ Engine oil, oil filter, Rear brake pad, fuel pump assembly, consumables & labor- Rs 2404.50; additional labor charges - changing brake pads &
throttle body cleaning ]
6th Service: Rs 6608.00 [ Engine oil, oil filter, consumables, labor for fuel pump and throttle body clean & labor - Rs 2415 ] Because of long ride fuel pump and throttle
body were cleaned again.
7th Service: Rs 20359.00 [ Engine oil, oil filter, consumables, Chain replacement labor, Throttle body clean, chain sprocket replaced & labor - Rs 3105 ]
Total: Rs 56579
SPARES/ ADD ON COSTS:
Warranty Extension: Rs 2977
Insurance Renewal: Rs 7629
Frame Sliders: Rs 4000
Additional clutch cable: Rs 871(Since I travel a lot, I got an additional clutch cable installed to be on safer side )
Additional brake lever: Rs 410 (I found levers were vulnerable as I witnessed couple of riders losing the levers due to falls. So I carry them during touring)
Additional clutch lever: Rs 410
Benelli Tank pad: Rs 600
Benelli Tricolor dome logo: Rs 60( Some one stole it. So, replaced the same )
Frame slider Front left: Rs 1000 ( It fell off during South India ride )
Front sprocket: Rs 768
Rear Sprocket: Rs 1094
Chain: Rs 10625
Left Balancer: Rs 258 ( Lost as it fell off during a ride )
Rear Brake pad : Rs 695
TOTAL: Rs 31397
You can remove/ subtract chain sprocket, balancer and brake pad costs from the aforementioned service costs to get more accurate costs.
Issues:
Fuse blew while on a ride. Motorcycle stranded at about 200 km from Bangalore. Had to be towed to service center. Poor RSA. No spares. Took one week to get the bike back. Root cause was mentioned as head lamp, low beam bulb to be specific. Head lamp assembly was changed under warranty.
Low beam stopped working again. This happened in the middle of a ride. I had to manage with high beam and was cursed by fellow road users in the ghat sections. Low beam bulb was changed under warranty.
Relay switch issue. Faced this issue twice. Motorcycle will not start in one go. Pressing the start button will only generate click noise and may take several attempts to turn the motorcycle on. Relay switch was replaced twice. Second time service folks said no need to be replaced and gave temporary fix by cleaning the wax near circuit. But issue recurred and switch was replaced under warranty.
Horn issue. Faced this issue twice. Horn will stop working when temperature would reach 90 degrees and beyond. I also faced issue where in head lamp would blink when honked. Service folks first tried to implement a fix. But it did not work. Then they replaced once. Again issue recurred when I was riding in the ghat sections between Mumbai and Pune. Horn was replaced twice under warranty.
Oil Pressure Sensor Issue. The oil indicator LED came on while riding. Initially it was dim and when throttle was raised, it would go off as it should be off while riding. Oil level was good. But gradually oil indicator would always stay on. Service center confirmed that sensor had to be replaced. But sensor was not available for a month and a half. But I was told that I could use the motorcycle. But one day sensor gave away resulting in oil leakage. Finally oil pressure sensor was replaced under warranty.
Rear shock absorber oil leak. Replaced under warranty.
Front sprocket was not available for close to a month delaying the replacement which forced me to avoid long rides to be on safer side.
Service center did not have riveting tool while changing the chain and sprocket. Next day it was procured from Pune and chain was replaced.
It's normal for a machine to have issues and I believe love for machine, in our case motorcycles, keeps us going despite all these issues. What pains me is definitely not the product or issues, but the availability of spares, delay in service and exorbitant maintenance cost. And above all DSK's apathy towards customers. It's been a year and a half and they are yet to give proper justification on why oil has to be changed at every 4000 Km. The service head says he himself was not aware of recent price hike of rear brake pads which shot up from 690 to 4500 Rs. However my love towards this handsome beast makes me overlook all these. I must add that Bangalore and Pune service center managers Mr. Shivkumar and Mr. Roshan are wonderful and only because of Mr. Shivkumar I tolerate DSK service. He is a gem of a guy who is very customer experience oriented.
I love my beast and it loves me back. Looking forward to much many more miles.
* I believe high speeds are not at all recommended on Indian roads including highways. I prefer to be in 90-110 kph personally.
** Fellow TNT 300 riders have touched 175. But my personal best is 168 kph top speed which I do not recommend at all. I tried top speed on an absolutely safe and empty stretch which was properly fenced on sides.
*** A request: Can somebody collate and post a comparison of service and spares costs between 300 CC bikes like Ninja, KTM, Benelli to find whether they are all at par as claimed by DSK.Last edited by experimentalhead; 10-08-2016, 02:06 AM.

Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
Hey there, I can give you some of the info you need. I had the TNT 300, Duke 390 and the R3 on my shopping list about 8 months back. The Benelli and Yamaha were better suited for my usage but I ended up picking the Duke purely based on the economics of owning a bike as a fresher. I have had the bike for 7 months and covered only about 11300 KMs. All the free services are over and on average a free service costs Rs. 2,300/-. This is inclusive of the chain cleaning/ lubing and coolant top-ups which I ask them to avoid every time, but they do it none the less. The following would be a breakdown of the components changed/used during these services.Originally posted by experimentalhead View PostOwnership experience at 24000 Km & 7th service
*** A request: Can somebody collate and post a comparison of service and spares costs between 300 CC bikes like Ninja, KTM, Benelli to find whether they are all at par as claimed by DSK.
1. Fuel Filter - Rs. 100/-
2. Spark plug - Rs. 196/-
3. Oil filter - Rs. 74/-</li>
4. O-Ring - Rs. 5.81/- (I doubt this would matter, but still )
5. Filter Element - Rs. 289/-
6. Motul 7100 10W50 1.5 Liter - Rs. 1,214/-
Labour charges for a regular service shouldn't cross Rs. 750 unless you have additional work to be done. In terms of general spares like the brake pads and stuff, I can only give you approximate numbers as these are from friends and general inquiries:1. Brake pads(both front and rear pads are only separated by 20 - 30 Rs.) - ~Rs. 200/-
2. Clutch plate - Rs. 1,200/-
3. Chain and sprocket kit - Rs. 1,300/-
As you can see the KTM is significantly cheaper to maintain and that money saved is fuel for me to ride more I guess. But to be fair, the KTM is made here in India and a comparison of expenses is not fair in certain ways. I simply couldn't afford a Benelli in terms in maintenance at that point and hence didn't make the purchase. But my KTM has been 100% reliable and has had barely any problems, at least none that matter in the long run. But my heart still skips a beat when I see a TNT 300 or an R3 ( the TNT for the aural drama and an R3 for the visual pleasure.)
I can't be authoritative with respect to the R3 as there are none in my friends circle (they are very rare around here). But the longer service intervals and significantly cheaper oil prices I have seen on various forums indicate that the R3 is also cheaper than the TNT in terms of maintenance. Spares will cost more than a KTM for sure. But I decided against the R3 because the first batch had a strange issue of pulling to a side when ridden. Didn't wanna take any risks when spending so much money. At the end of the day, the Benelli is a brilliant machine, but the up-keep costs I see here will have given me a heart attack.
I only made this post because you showed interest in knowing these numbers. If you or the anyone here things I have gone OT, kindly forgive me and delete this post.
Ride safe, enjoy your brilliant machine.

Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience
Front Brake pads for duke is not 200₹ but 351₹, i bought two weeks ago. Labor should be around 170-200₹.
Chain sprocket would cost around 3500₹ including labor.
I usually buy engine oil from amazon for around 600₹ pre liter, making it 900₹ pre service.
For ninja 300/z250, i believe the paid service is around 700-850₹. Service interval is 6 months, but the parts like chain sprocket, brake pads are not cheap but they last long enough.
R3 is the cheapest to maintain as the engine oil is 450₹ litre and you need 3 liters. Parts are cheaper than all twins in the market.
