• Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience

    Hi Everyone.

Brief History - I have owned a Royal Enfield Machismo 500 back in 2008 until I moved to Mumbai (from Delhi) and sold it off to a friend in 2011. I absolutely loved that bike and proudly say that the Enfields today have no match to what Enfields used to be earlier. However, due to some financial reasons, (apart from me buying a car), I had to sell it off. Also since I was not using it much, I had to give it away. Time passed and now I am living at Chandigarh since about half a year. Only I know how I have lived without owning a bike for 6-7 years. Riding was not a problem, since I have ridden and gone on rides with friends / family who have multiple bikes. This is the time, where I need a bike of my own.

Initiated Action - I started researching on the bikes and for the reason mentioned above, present day's Royal Enfield was not in consideration. Triumph's and Harley's are slightly heavy on the pocket (One Day.. One Day..). I somehow am not trustworthy enough about the UM Motorcycles. KTM's could have been a consideration, however my height and weight does not suit the stance required to enjoy the KTM's Duke. I was absolutely interested in the Ducati Scrambler, but I realized that I would enjoy the bike more without a pillion, (which is difficult for me, since I am married). The seat is not enough for the pillion. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda were just not that appealing to me. Learnt about Benelli, and it did quite surprise me. The 600i's inline 4 cylinders hypnotizes, I guess. Then again, the seating posture is slightly heavy on the wrists which does not suit me. I know I would be sounding real choosy, however, I gave endless hours of youtube india & thailand, to Benelli TNT 300 and made up my mind to visit the showroom for the test ride.

The Delhi Showroom guys are nice, patient and arranged for the test ride, however quoted the bike for 4.05 Lakhs on road. According to them it was mandatory for me to purchase the Helmet worth 11k from them, otherwise, the Registration in Delhi would not happen. I am not really sure about that, maybe you all can throw some light. I did pay the Booking amount of 10k and came back to Chandigarh. The Benelli showroom at Chandigarh is shut. On contacting, I was told that Benelli is considering a Dealership Change and I will have to either purchase the Bike from Delhi or Jalandhar. I contacted the Jalandhar Benelli showroom and was told that the on road price while registration in Jalandhar or Chandigarh will be 3.50 Lakhs. Yes. 50k cheaper. When I called the Delhi guys back and told him that this is what is on offer, they agreed to sell the bike to me at 3.49 Lakhs on road, (registration in Chandigarh).

My Question - I have the funds arranged. I have ridden the Benelli TNT 300. It matches all what I need, at this stage of my life. The comfort, the linear power, the looks, the sound, the affordability, the street rep, the license to finally be able to ride to work and tour to the hills with friends / family. I have the option to buy from Delhi or Jalandhar, since the registration is going to be in Chandigarh. However, there is no dealership / showroom / service centre in Chandigarh anymore. It is believed, that the dealership change will take about 3-4 months, with no guarantee, that there actually will be any dealership. Till that time, any service, repair, breakdown, crash, RSA, will be directed to either Delhi or Jalandhar, (most probably Jalandhar, since it is closer). Now I am not sure whether it will be wise for me to buy the bike at all. It is going to be a hassle actually, to ride or arrange to transport the bike to Jalandhar / Delhi, whenever the bike needs repairs or service. What is your advice?

Finally i managed to remove the broken bolt out of the groove with the help of a welder..thanks for the guidance, yet to replace the slider since the service center is out of allen key bolt in stock(as usual).

Does anyone change their rear brake pads apart from the service center (Aftermarket product like Sintered Brake Pads)? Because the whole front and rear brake pads are costs only 570 INR (Free Shipping) @ Aliexpress, but once I asked in SVC they quoted 4K for rear pads alone (Not Incl. Labor Charge). Will it void warranty if they found any aftermarket spares were used?

My friend, many of us do not know each other personally and we are here to share the information and evolve as motorcyclists. Please do not take any suggestion personally. I am 100% sure Karthik TheArcher84 had no intentions to cause any irritation to you.

Small world indeed. Please post a travelogue soon. The motorcycle is awesome indeed for long rides.

As far as I know aftermarket brakepads will not void warranty. Any changes to electricals which affects the motorcycle will void warranty for sure. Yes service center rear pads are expensive. Please use effective engine braking for longer life of brake pads.

experimentalhead - Thanks for the valuable information bro, so it seems like I can go for aftermarket brake pads without any worries until it won't cause any damage to my disk blades.

And my humble apologies to Karthik TheArcher84, if my reply that stings you. No one is here to earn a bad relationship so as I do, sorry once again. Am also a Chennaite, good to have someone from the same place, don't mistake me bro. The point is I felt like being pinned again and again for that SMS lingo thing, though I have already been alarmed by "Chandan92". I didn't take it personally and wish you don't too.

I don't think there should be a concern. Good to confirm with svc and get it done there. I'm sure they must have though of that option too.

Brake pads, not very sure of the AliExpress stuff. Some people here have used EBC brake pads, available with Motousher... So deliveries are faster. Try them out.

I find this really stupid. They are just trying to upsell.

DSK Benelli has been steadily expanding the customer base. I am sure Chandighar would not be far behind in reopening a new one. Even if you face problems, it would be just for a couple of months.

Hey guys today I had noticed that my rear left side turn indicator is not working and the front side left indicator is flashing at a faster rate than normal. Any guess what could be the problem and are the signal lights covered under warranty if not what are the approx charges to replace them if needed???

If there isn't any physical damage it will be covered in warranty terms. Front is flashing faster because rear isnt working. Check the connectors for loose connection. Else visit svc.

Hello Higgins, I do not own a Benelli yet but I am from Chandigarh. I had been to the showroom in Industrial Area (Chandigarh) many times when it was open & had no intention of buying it . I had numerous rides on 600GT, 600i and of course 300. Lately I am trying to zeroing on either Duke 390 or tnt300. So naturally I went to Benelli's showroom just to find out it was closed. I had called up their helpline to which I was also redirected to Jalandhar showroom. I did get a call from Jalandhar showroom as well and they asked me which variant and bike I was interested in. I told them that I am interested in 300 but I cannot come to Jalandhar just for the test drive to which they promised that they have an event on 25th of August and they are arranging test rides for potential buyers in Chandigarh itself.

I have been told by the Jalandhar showroom itself that DSK group is looking for a new dealer in Chandigarh and it would take 3-4 months easy for a new showroom to open. I am sure that this fiasco doesn't inspire confidence and certainly we don't want to end up like Hyosung owners. No offense to the owners. They also added that doorstep service to existing owners are being provided at some cost.

OT: What other bikes are you considering? I have been to KTM-Madhya Marg quite number of times. I was never able to get a test ride. Just wondering if you are considering KTM as well.

                            Cheers!

Hi Binil had spoken to SVC today regarding the signal light not working, they said if their is some problem with the light it needs to be changed and these lights are not covered under warranty, also the price of single unit is Rs 1900 which I think is too high.

If the horns are covered under warranty why can't the lights be.

There is no reason why the indicators wouldn't be covered in warranty. It's not a bulb. It's LEDs... They are not supposed to get spoilt like this. Stick to your ground. Talk to dsk if needed.
