Heard from Bangalore SVC that TNT 300 chain sprocket has been localised in India. Price has dropped to the 5000 INR region. It is being manufactured by DIAMOND CHAINS.

Very reasonable price for a O ring chain considering the performance of this bike. Superb move by DSK Benelli. Hope they don't compromise the quality and the longevity.

Hi Guys,

I guess most if you here are on your 20 ish or 30 ish...I am exactly 50 and thats why the post...I have always been a bike fan and always had a bike ever since I was 18. And the first bike I had was the BSA Falcon , a pocket rocket ! ! Now I am on my 11th bike , an Avenger. My wife and me usually take our bike out rather than the car on Sundays , cause we just love to ride around.

I have been wanting a bike which is easy to ride in a straight posture, good looking and preferably easy on the pocket ( the current maintenace cost of TNT with the new Savings plan is ok) and my usage will not be more than 500 to 700 kms a month. I have been waiting for the Avenger 400 , but now thats not happening I have shortlisted two. One is the TNT 300 and the other is the Vulcan S. I know both are totally different, but for my likings these are the only two I could shortlist.

I have been following this thread for about 3 months now. I have been to both the showrooms in Kochi and really liked the Benelli. The Vulcan also looks good but OTR is Rs. 6.96 Lakhs and the Benelli 300 is Rs. 4.05 lakhs. 20% of the exshowroom price is the road tax for bikes above 2 lakhs ! !

I can afford both...But the question is should I go for a brand new one or look for a slightly used one ? Of course, the Vulcan I will have to buy new as its just launched, but will it really justify the usage?

Both of us want to start touring. Start on closer destinations and then move on to longer touring.

So, this brings an issue. How good is the TNT 300 with a pillion on long distance and what are the options for saddle bags? Thats an issue with Vulcan also becaue there are no touring accessories as of now. I have both the sanddle bag and Turtle tank bag from Cramster for my Avenger.

I do have an offer for a 2016 TNT, with 12500 in the odo, asking for Rs.3.30 ( negotiable) with the tyres having about 6 k left and the chain about 4 k in it...

So, I would like to have your opinions and suggetions

Suresh

vnsk - the guys that own the Benelli DSK service centres just got arrested for fraud. No news on who will provide service to the customers once DSK is out of the picture.

If you can afford the Vulcan in cash, go for it. It's way better for touring than the 300. And buying a Japanese is any day better than buying a Chinese product. Better reliability and looks in my books.

Hi Suresh, I ain't far behind you in terms of age.
Anyways, I would like to give my experience on touring part as that's what interests me. My wife and I also tour and that was the sole purpose of getting this bike. It's an excellent machine on the highways. We use Viaterra falcon sport saddle bags(max 38L) They fit fine and don't bother the pillion's legs. The only part is that we cannot fit bigger saddle bags on the bike thus carrying capacity is reduced. I have a viaterra fly magnetic tank bag too which holds good amount of stuff.

PS: DSK issues will not hamper anything with Benelli. There are certain talks going on ground where Benelli wants to come in the picture if you know what I mean.

Hi Leech - DSK reality is in trouble, and Mr Kulkarni got arrested. DSK Motowheels is a seperate company run by his son. Even if it is also in trouble, I am sure Benelli is watching closely and has a contigency plan set up, in case it also folds up.

I think Benelli is pretty serious about India. For ex. Right from the beginning everyone was commenting about service cost and the absence of ABS. They have addressed both issues. Then spare parts cost. They have tied up with Diamond chains to manufacture it locally. Benelli is actually taking the customer feedback unlike some American bike company. And did you know Volvo is a Chinese company now. Just because Chinese owns one doesnt mean its a bad company. Jaguar and Landrover is Indian !

Shroomz - Let me know where i can get those and the price. I also need a Windshield.

I think I have made up my mind to go for a new TNT 300. I will use it for some years and then graduate to larger cruiser ( except an Harley ! !).

These are the things I think I need immedaitely apart from the riding gear : Windshield, Sliders, Saddle and tank bags and auxiliary lights. The rest , I will built up as the need arises. And yes the front and rear mudguards extension some one who had put by using Btwin ! From June Kerala will have three months of rain.

Hi Shroomz, if possible could you please post links to the vitara claw saddle bags here for prospective future buyers. Also, I noticed that you have installed IXIL on your machine how does that fare on the highway run? I heard it really gets annoying after you put in some kilometers when on the tour.

PS: I really like the color of the bike. They said its available on order because most of the people go for White and Red

Hi there, welcome to the forum. You can try the one from Puig. You can find its review few pages back (reviews from ThirtyOne and Shanky).

If you are going to buy one from Puig, be sure to get the metal clamps rather than flimsy plastic ones. Also, do tell us about the after market levers. If possible post a link here.

Looking forward to hear about your ride and experience more. Cheers!

Thanks, the color is pretty and eye-catching too. I was fortunate to get this color as I had intended for black. Black was not available for my wanted delivery date thus settled for this one. I am glad I did.

Regarding the Ixil, I feel each one to their own. I got the bike along with the exhaust, so I have it from day 1. I just love it. Trust me, I don't feel annoyed at all. Its like music to me. I did dare to remove the baffle but it lasted only for few mins. Without baffle, I feel its too loud.

I was about to say the same thing. People will get arrested but these companies will function. Benelli is quite serious about the markets they are getting into and are investing. I believe we are on the safe side here.

Agree to this too. Adding to this, even Apple along with the biggest brands manufacture in China due to lower cost of manufacturing, similarly Ducati and Kawasaki manufactures in Thailand. Doesn't mean that they are bad because of this. On the same front ... I do understand your worry, with the likes of UM from China. :P

I was using one from PUIG, however removed it later as it was not helping my pillion. You have a lot of options on AliExpress too.

I can vouch for pillion comfort, I travel with my wife a lot and had even done a 5000km round trip over 3 weeks from Bangalore.

Had a saddle stay and tail rack fabricated and used 2 25liter aquapaqs and 1 each viaterra magnetic tank bag and the raptor tail bag. All this and two of us did Bangalore > Kutch and back. The only concern pillion wise I would add is the seat is narrow for the pillion. So, an additional seating arrangement like Ride On Air or similar product helps a lot. We did stock and the setup was good. And we both have done a similar trip on a KTM Duke, so this was heavenly. :P
