  • Re: Benelli TNT 300 Ownership Experience

    Finally!!

After all the hassle caused by RTO registration documentation, the bike was delivered late Monday evening.

    A few pictures:

    I'll post some more later.

I haven't had a lot of time to ride it yet - I've only done about 60 km so far, but I was able to take it for a decent 40-odd km spin yesterday.

    First impressions:

    I. The Good:

    1. Engine: I can't exactly describe the feeling of... elation while riding it for the first time. The engine was so smooth, it felt like I was gliding through the streets.
    2. Ride Quality: I found the seat to be much more comfortable than my old FZ-S. The bike eats up speed-breakers and potholes for breakfast - I could hardly feel a bump. So far, I'm very happy with the ride quality.
    3. Weight: I was very worried about the weight, it's about 55 kgs heavier than my FZ-S. But I can barely feel the weight while in motion.
    4. Sound: I'm not someone who goes ga-ga over a bike's exhaust note, in fact I prefer quieter machines. Having said that, the roar the bike emits when turned on never fails to bring a large grin to my face. Music indeed.

    II. The Bad:

    1. Front Brakes: There's just no bite to them. I'm not sure if this is deliberate and they need time to bed in, or they aren't set up properly. The rear brake has no such problem. Heading to Benelli on the weekend to sort this out.
    2. Gearbox: Shifting through gears is sometimes very hard and not smooth at all. Sometimes there is a very loud noise as the gear shifts into place.
    3. Key: I wish they'd provide more than just one flip-key. I'm in two minds whether to keep using the fancy key (and risk losing it) or just use the regular keys.

Would appreciate some feedback over points 1 & 2.

    III. Misc:

    1. Paint on Tank: There's a raised blob on the tank, about 4 inches below the fuel cap. It's barely visible even under direct sunlight. The guys at Benelli have told me that they will replace the entire tank at the first service. Waiting to get a written confirmation on this, as it's preventing me from applying the 3M PPF.
    2. Weight: While I can't feel the weight while riding, it is extremely evident while at a stop. I've almost lost balance a couple of times after bringing it to a stop at a traffic signal. This is more my problem than the bike's, will have to adjust or bulk up a bit.
    3. Mirrors: The mirrors positioning is not the same. The left mirror is attached to the handle bar, whereas the right mirror is attached to the brake fluid reservoir. I'm sure I'll get used to this, but it just feels wrong somehow.

Can't wait to get the number plate, don't want to risk riding a temporarily registered bike over long distances.

Brakes - may be it needs to run in or needs to be checked and brake oil needs bleeding. I haven't faced any issues with the breaks yet, rear or the front ones.
Gears - the clutch might need adjustment. Its heavier than other bikes but its smooth. Makes a thud sound usually when u put it in first. No issues otherwise.
Keys - I stopped I ng the flip key as it tends to open in ur pocket and get stuck inside . and the flip key spring starts loosing tension eventually.
Mirrors - just need to be adjusted to suit ur riding position. Took me a couple of tries to get it right. ...

Same here, except it's not just for the first gear. The clutch itself is very smooth... no issues here.

Anyone of you facing issue while starting the bike ? Like you press the start button and just hear a click noise and no response from the engine. I talked to Sunil (SVC Manager) here in Bangalore and he said that he would replace the relay next week.

            Congrats!!

Front brakes are great! No other bike in this class has dual front discs. Though small but are very effective. Great stopping power.
Thud sound when shifting to 1st gear, which is common. No issues after that.

            Enjoy!
            Cheers!

Happened to me once. Bike refused to start. Just the click sound. Killed the engine and switched off ignition, shook the bike and it started

            Reboot solves most problems.

                    You are most welcome bro!

I am planning to get it next week. The loan process completed yesterday and I am out of town. Once I am back, the formalities will get completed and the beast will be with me. Fingers crossed on the outcome

I will post pics once I get it !!

P.S: The bike is ready and is in the service center for the past 10 days.

Have been glued to this thread from past three days after going through entire thread here is my impression.

People have shared their experience (good, bad, ugly) which is really helpful.

I am kind of attracted to this bike, though there are no plans of upgrade or add on bike

I always had a liking towards naked bike, with this bike I feel days are not far to fulfill my dream.

Thank you every one your contribution is very helpful.

A line which I liked the most "Daddy you are buying this super bike". It's very common for us to hear "daddy get me this/that super bike ". Things are changing

Congrats on the new beast, regarding brakes, clutch, gears you will have run the bike atleast for 500km for it to get adjusted and you will notice the difference only after the first service..

Great to see so many new 300 beginning brought. I recently got the black one. I have named it Alferdo the itanlian Butler. Hahahaha.

So far my experience has been amazing. The bike does everything you ask of it (therefore the name) and it seems to do it without any fuse.

The only niggle bothering me has been that my bike drifts to the ride side when i leave the handle bar. I have tried this at speeds around 60 - 70. Has anyone else faced this issue?

                            Loving it.

That's a new thing. Never heard of such a case on any of the TNTs. Get it checked please.
