Gentlemen, Here is the deal with the R3 odomoeter. It CAN be disconnected by a mechanic at a Yamaha SVC and reconnected. The catch - once reconnected it will show error.
How do I know? I made some good acquaintance with a person who sells SBKs (R1s) for Yamaha at a dealership in Hyderabad and asked him the question. How do I know you are not selling me a screwed up bike with odo disconnected?
His simple response was - we cannot disconnect the odo on this bike saar. It will show error once re-connected. Same with all Yamaha SBKs. He added, No one touches these bikes sir. Expensive they are. 4 lakh kaa gaadi ko koi touch karta kyaa? Superbike hai sir ye.
There are only a few showrooms across India selling R3s. There is only ONE mechanic per showroom who is trained on working with a R3. There is no one else who iis going to touch the bike in the showroom or in the godown. Its too expensive to screw up.
Compare it to a KTM and Ninja, all KTM SVCs service Ninjas. All KTM mechanics can and do work on Ninjas. Odometer disconnect, reconnect and all that - you get the drift!
R3 is the first BIG bike Yamaha has started selling in India that is available for display, that is available for discussions (have never seen a R1 thread on xBHP that is 50+ pages long) and is available (if you are lucky) for a TR!
I am sure Yamaha is not going to screw this one up - especially when it is trying to get a foothold in the market.

And if I am not wrong INR 777 for a 3 year extension is quite cheap (which makes me even more doubtful).

. It is a very capable machine that has won hearts worldwide. (I am not a Yamaha Fanboy)
. Sadly they were not very responsive i had to push them for details they don't even know where the chassis engine numbers are
Good for me then.. I had plans to get the bike by Jan Feb after seeing you all enjoying your rides.. Thanks to the CBU logic I got mine so early.. hahaha..
