Planning to buy a bike this march yet to decide between gixxer and hornet.
    Few questions:
1.which one will be a better bike for long run ?
2.which one has a superior built quality ?
3.is there any cold start problems with the hornet?
4.the price for the standard variant is 94k in Noida whereas the cbs variant costs 95k in Delhi. So is there any way i can buy bike from Delhi without much complication and voiding the warranty ?
To be frank & not at all biased the same question delayed mine purchase almost a month [Also the news: launch of gixxer with rear disks]. Here are mine views :

    1) Gixxer rear disk no launch date specified & even if launched the prices will go up.
    2) Even if price is left aside, we Indians often (very often to be correct) have to take pillion with us & that being said in semi-sports category ( upto 160cc ) this is the most comfortable one.
    3) Honda has a much larger service/sales network & that really helps.

If all this doesn't matter or you can live up with, go for Gixxer [but if rear disk is launched which may be later this year you will hugely regret].

    Now your answers:

    1) Both are super refined, though individual tastes vary, both are a long race horse.
    2) The rear tail of gixxer is not that great but you sure can tail tidy it[remove all together the tail section].
    3) No not at all, its in all carbureted bikes especially in cold weathers.
    4) For buying from delhi local address would be required other than that no problems in ma view. Warranty is country wide not state specific.

But if asked personally I really like the big bike feel while driving it [Pls note, even fz felt small after few days on hornet], the new bike factor - Wow effect

    --
Also the bike(Hornet) though big is not uncomfortable or scary to drive, in-fact very nimble & easy. Try it once.

nope, i dont feel in the palm or wrist.. the clutch is really light....

paint scratch on the tank? where? i didnt notice it happening in normal course of riding.... :O

Hi hisam2k9, about run in period am really thinking hard to go for 2/3 long rides & clock 600/700 so that next phase can be unleashed Also great control on your biking speed bro, sadly that i am still trying to constrain myself in before i have to learn it the hard way.

About the paint scratch: someone accidentally left his love i guess while parked, on the tank just on left side of plastic covering the tank. Thinking to do something about it or some else stupid might elongate it.

I was able to plant both my legs on the ground comfortably with the hornet and also pillion seat is not a problem. How important is the kill switch and gear position indicator given that i am a new rider and this will be my first bike

Gear position indicator is not at all important and in normal riding you won't even notice it.engine kill switch is important but it depends on individual whether he/she can live without it.

[QUOTE=hisham2k9;1211959]Guys,, I installed the Hornet seat cover as mentioned in the HOnda website under accessories, the seat feels much comfy and looks premium now... Guys interested should really have a look.. I got this seat cover only when i specifically mentioned i need the seat cover mentioned in Honda website... They were giving initially giving me some other seat cover which didnt look to be one from authorised Honda...
I also installed chrome Handle bar ends and black grip cover with HONDA written over it in red fonts .. It feels a lot more premium and macho too... i also added white rim stickers on my red hornet, all as shown in the accessories page of Hornet in the HOnda website.. It all together feels like a segment above now...

As someone mentioned here... The bike does seem to be mistaken for benelli from some angles....

          will share some pics soon...

Just saw the seat cover @ Honda website. Looking really good. Along with pics, also post the cost.
Can anyone tell me where are the best merchandize & accessories store of Honda in Bangalore. I also need to buy half finger gloves for riding in the early morning. Which brand is good & where to buy in Bangalore.

Yeah, hornet shows its true class on highway rides, even on 90 to 100 kmph, the bike holds firm on the ground.

Oh thanks, I like to ride slow and enjoy the ride with my pillion, and let everyone go ahead of me .

Idk about how to solve the scratch bro!

Both are the things good to have. And the shift light indicator too. If you ask me, the engine kill switch does add to the functionality a lot depending about the place you live and the way you ride.

you might need it while doing an uphill climb and wants stop by or during a bumper to bumper traffic rides.

And gear position indicators are present in bikes from higher segments. To me, it adds to premium-ness or aesthetics and very little/ nil in functionality. One can easily understand which gear his/her bike is in by the way it pulls.

                Hi again ..

About kill switch & gear indicator:

No not that important that it should factor in as a decisive point whether to buy the bike or not [unless its a tie ] . Though the added functionality is a welcome & honda must have given especially being the last entrant.

Also noteworthy is the kill switch is basically a hazard switch & should be used occasionally as opposed to most riders using it every time. One more thing to help the pain of missing kill switch even TVS200 4V is using kill switch for hazard function [i.e. blinking all indicators].

To answer your question friend most of us(Indian riders) have learnt biking on 100-125cc bikes & they all lack these( Kill switch, gear indicator) functionality. Its an added functionality as said before. The rear disk compensates for more than both plus little more.

                ---------

                Mine priority were(not in order):

                1) Good engine
                2) Reliability & availability No local availability cost me Duke 200
                3) Comfort (as much possible for rider & pillion in spite choosing a semi-sports under 200cc)
                4) Safety (front & rear discs also if abs then more than wonderful + strong headlights for night rides)
                5) Looks (wow factor & one which is not common)

Hornet satisfied most of the checkboxes [ No abs, lights: no projectors ] so went for it.

                Hope this helps.

Considering the price here in Bangalore, you are still getting the for 3K less

The kill switch contrary to popular believe should be used frequently otherwise it will cease do its function properly at the time when you need it the most. Hence not having the kill switch is actually a good thing in a way. But the greater issue is the quality of the switchgear that they have used. It seems to be ancient when compared to the rest of the bike.

As it stands, there are rumors that the Hornet will be getting a switchgear update but unfortunately in my recent conversation with HMSI Customer service revealed that they have absolutely no idea what I am talking about.

About kill switch, thanks for the info.. will read further into it.

About switchgear update: Not yet, confirmed from many sources.

Speaking of switch gear yeah that drags it down but mine priority was a rear disk & that counts more. Also a modification of switch is much easy than adding the rear disk which will result in alteration of the geometry & effectiveness of the frame if done locally.

Would sure have been great if Honda had given projectors/55-60w halogens, abs.

But for any one looking out for options & verdict type of statement I am very satisfied with Hornet. Lets see how the long term & after sales services carries out.

People in India use the Kill switch to save fuel and prevent overheating when they are stationary at signals or in heavy traffic. The Kill switch was NOT made for that purpose. Its made in order to perform an emergency engine cut-off in case your throttle gets locked due to some malfunction or an accident. (This usually occurs in high end performance bikes)
