As there are so many hornet 160 owners here, can you guys tell me whether Honda's maintenance is costly ? Will it be too expensive than apache 200,180,160 ? Do you think the mileage would make up for the maintenance cost ?

Some people also say that Honda has cheaper maintenance and great resale value.

Do you guys suggest Hornet 160r or apache ?

Done with first service from Matrix Honda, udupi.
The bike has become a lot more free revving and a lot more smoother. That "sound" about which I was saying before has disappeared.
One thing I have noticed after service is that the brakes have become a lot less powerful. When I complained after a service, they took the bike again and did something and brought it back again. When I asked what was the issue they said, they had diesal washed the brakes and forgot to wash it with petrol and now they have done it and should feel normal now... I took the bike again for a ride. Though the brakes seemed a little better, it isnt as before the service. Is this normal?

From what I collect from xbhp ,Honda parts are expensive but unless God forbid you have an accident they do not fail.with respect to apache 160 and 180 are known to have excessive vibrations which are said to have been reduced but still they will be no where close to Honda refinement.also they are long in tooth.in terms of long term expenses it depends on maintenance.

So what's your recommendation here ? I'm not a long commuter of weekdays. Office is just 1.5 KMs from home but may ride longer on weekends. I'm not sure whether these factors affect the suggestions.

It would be great to get suggestions from other people as well. I want to get the bike tomorrow.

Well between current Apache's and hornet ,hornet is the one.to get proper response you should start a what bike thread.

I too agree. Hornet is a good one.

Congratulations for your new bike. Can you tell me which engine oil they put in your bike. I means mineral or synthetic oil.

Thanks guys! What about 2004v ? It will arrive in first week of april

The reason why I'm asking here is there are many hornet owners here and I also did not get enough responses in what bike section.

If you can wait then you can buy 2004v after some owners have clocked 2 to 3k kilometers. If you can't wait then hornet is a very good choice in the present scenario along with gixxer.all data present about apache is from web reviews and no first hand experience ,on the other hand 160cc engine has been on duty on unicorn since 1 year and is fairly reliable. I suggest you take test rides of hornet and apache 180 and then decide which suits you more.

                          cool, thanks

If I take hornet, do you think I should opt for teflon and honda shield or anything ?

Teflon- most of the showrooms do wax and call it Teflon, that too obviously not done properly. Honda shield is kindof strategy they use to ensure you do all your services at that particular showroom only for 5 whole years.

Hey, first congrats on your new bike. Regarding the gear shift, I also feel the same issue occasionally. When I try to downshift (no matter in what gear I am in right now except 1st gear ) it does not. What I do is just raise rpm a little (momentarily) with clutch fully pressed, then I am able to downshift.

Also when I really want to downshift or upshift to neutral it happens after a lot of struggle, but when I am just started on green signal, accidentally falls into neutral.

I opted for Teflon coating. so there is no glare and color is enhanced. The horn is squeaky compared to the stature of bike like a well built guy with shrilly voice

The bite of CBS is violent. I almost banged my head on digital meter

I didnt went to showroom. so i missed out the PDI stuff. Someone please suggest the mandatory PDI checks.
Congrats !. I have done any PDI check in particular, so I cannot comment.

Both bikes are premium bikes, I suggest you have test ride & decide. My opinion is not to decide based on the maintenance cost, as I feel bot are in same segment & cost difference would not be that high.

Sorry for the late reply. Do not take any chances on brakes get it checked, if you feel something is not right. I heard one of my friend who has R15 & he told that the service guys made oil polish on the disc also while cleaning (to make it shining ). All service centres are not equally well trained.

As per my knowledge honda and yamaha are on par as far as prices of spares concerned whereas tvs is around 30% cheaper.
