  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

    Hi Frnds

I hope all of you guys have not faced or came across such issues ; but i did. just sharing in case.
my first stint with Honda SVC.
it was a nerul, navi mumbai authorised service centre. i had a plan to go to BBQ Nation so scheduled a service appointment there after exact 1103 kms.
my conversation with the fellow as i explained the issues faced -
Me - Hi. i hear some schreeching sound from my rear disc
SVC - No sir , it is from the chain .. (facepalm)
Me - ( hesitantly ) ok fine , can you tell me which grade engine oil you gonna use ?
SVC - (literally taking a random can) Bhai iss dabbe me se oil daalte hai hum.
ME - (WTF) does that have any grade or spec ?
SVC - Sir, Yehi wala oil hum use karte hai.
ME- your name and qualification ?
    SVC - Xyz ; studying 12th.
Me - ok. bike ka kaam hojaega na ache se ?
    SVC - tension na lo.

    POST SERVICING TRAUMA -
BLand Pickup ; Poor In-gear Acceleration ; Rear Brake still Schreeching ; Cone-set play increased coz of which the front end dives in early while i tend to corner or lean into ; front bikini fairing seems to rattle as an aftereffect.

Soon i will be placing my bike for servicing to my trusted service guy and will Update the same here.
    Thank you.

        Hi bro,
I have unicorn 160 STD. With 4.5k on odo and is nearly 6 months old. After first service at 650kms I do face pick up drop and the bike engine as not that smooth. And the engine heated up quite early. I think the honda mineral oil 10W30 is not suitable for this engine. Also they mentioned 6000kms for second service which is quite longer for new engine. I replaced oil after 3000kms. Next time I will change oil only for 2000kms. After all free services I would like to go for other engine oil.

I don't think hornet's default battery is enough for keeping the headlight permanently on.

For those of who still looking for an answer regarding the engine kill switch, the answer seems no.

Last month, rumour was that Honda might add an engine kill switch to the CB Hornet 160R but the company isn’t planning to do the same

I agree, it indeed is a very handy feature, but I had to say most of them who complain will still buy this bike only for its performance & overall package (both front & rear disc, CBS, wide rear tyres, handling, engine refinement, mileage & new look). Though many have a feel the throttle punchiness lags when compared to Gixxer or any other bike in that segment, atleast to me there is no complaint on Hornet.

Also I have completed 1200km and bike has become smooth but not as smooth as uni 150 or extreme .will it become more smooth after some kilometers or not.
Just seem to be approx. 1.7 littres / bar (considering of total six bars & capacity of ~ 10.3 litres above reserve). It's only theoretical though. Looking @ your it does not seem too much to worry. Just note down when ~ the last bar starts blinking & when it actually comes to reserve & let me know.

In my case ~ 7.9 litres above reserve displays 5 bars. Regarding the smoothness, I have ridden till 5500 rpm (odo of 1050 km). I feel till 5000 rpm it is smooth. Hope it gets better & better. Have reached ~ 72 km/h @ around 5.5k rpm.

You should have stayed with the bike while the service was being carried out, unless ofc they dint allow you to which they cant.

I am too surprised like others. Considering there is no change from the stock sprocket & drive chain (I mean number of teeth on sprocket & links on chain), there will be no difference in vehicle speed vs engine rpm at a given gear. Mine does ~ 55 kmph @ 4k rpm at any slope. Is it constant you get 70 @ 4k on stock parts. If yes, I think the tacho reading is faulty & needs calibration. Some experts can enlighten me if my understanding is wrong.

It's pretty good and comparable to fz.fine for casual riding.

Its not mandatory to keep using mineral oil... i am taking a chance ; for u always learn from ur own experiences.
