  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

Hello guys ,I'm really really confused between Gixxer and Hornet. I am 6 feet tall and weigh around 80 kgs. I'll be using the bike only for 1.5 years. I really liked the handing and peppy feeling in gixxer. But the only setback is the bike looks a bit small. I didn't test ride the hornet yet. Pillion comfort is not an issue. So my questions are
    1. Does the hornet feel similar to gixxer in handling and peppiness?
    2. Which will have a better resale value?
    3. which bike has better suspension?
    4. Which is more suitable for ocasional touring ( say 700-800kms) ?
    5. Which bike would you choose?

    Help me out please.

If you don't want to look out of place buy hornet.
      Answers to your queries.
1.at low rpms hornet is not as peppy as gixxer but once you cross 5k rpm it surges ahead and is quite comparable to gixxer.handling is good and you can easily zip through traffic.
2.it is too early to say about resale but from the present market conditions Honda will always command more price than a similar Suzuki in same condition.
3.Suzuki's suspension is a bit plusher than Honda's but has ground clearance issues.
4.hornet will be better due to upright sitting position and less stressed engine at high speeds. This is purely my opinion.
5.myself being a hornet owner I am pretty satisfied by hornet and my option would be a hornet with peppines of gixxer.
Also you may think about going for used bike because you don't intend to keep it long.

1.Honda's a high revving engine. Hence at lower rpms gixxer has the upper hand. Peppiness in city traffic- gixxer wins. High rpm maturity and refinement - Honda wins
Handling is similar.honda altho being 4kgs heavier doesnt make u feel it

          2.honda ofc.
Gixxer is lil high on maintenance part.

3.gixxer is plusher. Honda's stiff; but it is Honda that wins coz it takes up all the indian potholes effortlessly. Ground clearance helps honda more

4.both feel at home. Wind blast will be a concern. Honda's weight and fatter rrar rubber with CBS helps in stability and stopping prowess

5.go for gixxer if u want more fun .. go for honda if u love revving .

On Xbhp I've seen most people recommend shifting to semi synthetic at around 6000km and then fully synthetic at around 10000km.

Besides that, the oil you've bought is good. It feels great, especially on highway runs. I've personally observed that smoothness reduces a little bit.

No harm in changing oil at 50-100km. But there are people who say this is better and there are others who say during the first service it is better. There's no oil filter like the paper filter used in Yamahas or Suzukis in Hornet.

It's hard differentiating oils if they are of the same color. In fact the ASC guys may not even look at the oil after draining. After some usage, the oil becomes blackish in color and it becomes impossible to find out.
During run in mineral oil is must!!

But 6000km and 10000km is very long period for shifting to semi synthetic and fully synthetic oil.
One can change to semi synthetic oil after 1600km.
And fully synthetic oil is not need for a 160cc bike and not recommended, but if willing to use FS oil it can be used after 2500km.

My RTO will be barrackpore. My brother visited only once for his activa's permament registration but while buying hornet, dealer just wrote A/F on the plate and now I need to visit RTO on tuesday. Are they gonna give me temporary number and then again I have to take my bike there for permanent registration ?

Can you explain as I think you have already done your registration.

If you still have some question plz ask .

*** P.S - dont go to bidhan nagar, sealdah, maidan , maniktala , garia hat - until you got ur number or reg papers.

Thanks for your message. Yes, about the wire, will visit showroom for that tomorrow. So basically I need to visit RTO only once, right ? and I'm not gonna get anything from barrackpore. They will just check paper and then I will get everything from showroom, correct me if I'm wrong.

                        1. The low end torque is low, it struggles to pull at 20 kmph in 3rd gear... which gear do u ppl use in slow moving traffic 2nd or 3rd ?
                        2. i rode a CBS version, but didn see any diff... does CBS come into picture only when u push the rear pedal hard or does it come even when pushed mildly ?

Thanks for replying. Is the hornets engine and pickup comparable to fz v1 if not with gixxer? I really like fz v1. I'd be more than happy if hornet feels the same.

1.my bike easily pulls from 20kmph in 3rd gear .0-10kmph 1st gear,11-18 2nd gear,18-27 3rd gear,27-32 4th gear after that 5th gear .at the above mentioned speeds and gear my bike pulls cleanly.

                                1. Slow moving traffic, I usually use second gear. Depends on how 'slow' is slow moving traffic. 😅
                                2. I have experimented it by putting it in centerstand. As I observed, the front tyre stops( or front brakes starts working while pressing the rear brakes) with application of rear pedal only after the we press it beyond a certain extend. Front tyre rotates freely with very mild application of rear brakes. it usually helps in panic or emergency brakings I guess.
