    Really tall gears. 51 in 1st gear, 73 in 2nd, 102 in 3rd, 118 in 4th.
That's awesome!!! Why do you open clutch case?

    100 on 3rd
So you maxed out each gear!

After 60-70 your bike is a beast. Unicorn 160 does not quite have the same acceleration. Also redlining once in a while may be good for the bike.

To clean oil strainer, change clutch plates, etc.

Yes, right. It's been some time I redlined Hornet. Gotta do it soon!

Well I've not ridden for such a long distance, but I think it's best you carry a spare spark plug and the necessary tools.
Take it after a service and replace the engine oil and it all set to go. Never had any issue with my Unicorn 150 even after riding it through twists for 442kms a day.. Enjoy the ride. [emoji5]️

But on the flipside it is amazing for long rides and in very heavy traffic with respect to engine heating. Harshness was still there though reduced.

Used it for around 1500km before draining thanks to a highway run.

                20w40. I tried motul 7100 20w50. :P
Performance drop. Mileage slight drop ~2kms. Pickup drop. Zero cold start issues.
Positive. Ultra smooth engine and gear shifts. I literally couldn't feel my engine till 6500 rpm.

BUT fun was taken off because it was more of a liquid cooled engine oil.

Changed back to honda mineral 10w30. Guess what ??? As an after effect of motul ; engine was and is still smooth.

                Currently using Throttle 10w30.
After 12k kms will pour 1litres of motul 5100 10w30.

It's good in the city, not so sure about highway. You can try roots or the Pulsar horns. I especially like the horn which the 220 has.

Please do NOT inform the SVC about this. Mechanics cannot say the oil grade while draining oil anyways.
Warm up your bike as a habit before every cold start for 45 seconds to a minute and take the first couple of km slowly.

Then please update if it helped or not.

                      Thanks.
                      +1

This is something I follow and recommend to others too

Before kick-starting after a long break, I do a couple of very soft kicks (very gently dragging the kicker down)
                      Then kickstart without acceleration.
Let it idle and build the warm RPM (around 1.5k) and avoid revving.
Choke may also be used for around 30 seconds.

And then take it easy and smooth for a few initial kms.

On the other hand, I personally feel that revving hard/redlining sometimes is kinda good too(maybe just a psychological feeling :P)
But only after the warm initial kms

                      Ride safe

PS- I've generally used semisynthetic 10w30 or 10w40 though

Yes yes, the Italian way of tune up. I agree.
If not red line, one should take the engine at least close to it every few thousand kms or so.

My bike red lines at a measly 8200 RPM so I make it a point to touch at least 7500 revs every 2000 km for a few seconds.

I do this for a short distance (say like a signal to signal drag&#128521 and suddenly the engine becomes smooth.
at higher rpm lube oil pump run fast and built sufficient lube oil pressure so the bike become smooth after dragging it above 70 (as per my experience) , the solution is get the oil strainer cleaned.

Since the ASC doesn't do it I've to do it myself soon. Maybe after the third service as soon as the Honda oil goes bad[emoji13].

I faced very difficult starts even in summer with 20w40. The bike lost its initial torque (Unicorn 160 is known for fast 0-60, maybe fastest in the segment).

So, in order to cover distance very fast, I want to ride Hornet at 80-95 kmph.
Will this put strain on engine if I ride it this way for 130-170 km straight?
Today I did a continuous to and fro 250 km trip and here are my observations for my bike. There was no heating issues throughout the journey and it was overall smooth but the engine could be more refined. Also I feel it is indeed very comfortable as there are no nasty back/ wrist or neck pain.

I maintained varying speeds between 65 to 90 kph depending on the oncoming traffic or while overtaking a bus/ truck.

I tend to upshift to top most gear by 55 kph so my bike struggles to go beyond 90 kph easily. As most owners have mentioned here there is indeed a boom type sound post 75 kph but between 65 to 80 the bike does sound strained specially if I have to overtake suddenly.

It sounds like a typical 100 cc commuter bike at that point. If i downshift and wring in quick situations it is even terrible! The bike performs well when it is ridden gently and when the speed is increased gradually. More so there was a lot of wind noise so the actual bike sound is drowned as speed increases.

The bike is best enjoyed at 50 - 65 kph with sudden bursts to 80.

The bike felt well planted until 90 kph beyond which I did not get confidence as my weight is perhaps less for the bike to stay grounded. I was being thrown around even in slight undulations on the road.

There is a peculiar problem - My bike just refuses to kick start these days. Even if i kick for 7 - 8 times beyond which I get annoyed it doesn't happen. There are no cold start issues...it starts with a click. I idle it for a minute or two after applying choke. And then its good to go - so I just do that.

When I ride sanely in mixed traffic conditions I have managed a 57 - 60 kpl.

Today despite riding relatively faster ( compared to my own riding style) and braking a little too often I could achieve a 54.5 kpl.

In slight wet conditions the tyres are not the most confidence inspiring as I felt the rear to slip a bit.

You can do at local mechanic it's hardly 15 min job and you can use the same oil just buy a plastic mug and ask him to drain the oil into it so that it can be reused.

even the clutch cover gasket is made of metal so no need to worry about gasket breakage.
