  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

    Hello riders,
I am new to xbhp but found the information here awesome. Purchased hornet std blue color on june 10th in Delhi.Till now rode for 30Km only as registration is pending.now my issue is when i try to kick start, my bike won't start after many kicks though it starts immediately using self start. I tried choke also. What i observed is when I start the bike, idle rpm is only at 1k rpm. I am curious as i read in the fourm that it should be around 1400 rpm. Please advise shall I wait for sometime as the engine is very new or shall I take any other action.

The idling rpm is taken when the engine is warm and at its proper operating temperature. When cold, 1000-1100 is fine.

Even I had problems with the kick starter on my Unicorn 160 in the beginning. You just need to have the proper technique. Read the manual to understand. With time you'll get the hang of it.

It reads " in case of emergency use kick with choke and in case of cold engine use choke with self" so its OK to use self and don't stress ur legs by kicking hard yea it doesn't start on the fst kick most of the time

In my manual it's given to use the choke for the first start of the day. But I've noticed that if you use the bike daily then it starts in the first kick. After maybe 3-4 days of not using it can't start without choke.

A quick question, (Excuse my laziness to search it on the internet.)

What is the name of the rear MRF tyre on this bike, is it the same one seen on stock FZ-16 2.0?

Thanks mate, Do you know the name/ the model number of the Hornet's tyre?

                  I'm guessing it's Zapper S1.

Is this for the R15? (Sorry for intruding)

Michelin Pilot Street radial 140/70 costs 5.5k and fits the R15 (friends bike).

I was told by the service centre guy to kick start every morning so tried it from 2-3 days without success.ultimately have to rely on self start. Even after riding for 5-6 km in stop and go conditions of streets no success in kick start. May be i should give some more days to get habituated.

Yes, I'm guessing you need a little practice. Check out the manual.

One tip - Kick till the end. Don't kick too hard. Just one smooth kicking motion is enough.

Yes mate, I'm looking for the widest possible rear tyre for my R15 for a while now (it goes in years) and I learnt that even all the tyres having the same sizeing differs in width. so far I found that the contigo 140/70/17 is the widest for R15. It's even wider than the 150/60 and 150/70 tyres out there.

Michelin I feel is the best out there. I've ridden my friends R15. It was already amazing while cornering, now the grips even better. Any more than 140/70 and it'll touch the swingarm. And there was no performance loss. Don't go for Contigo (I think the CBR250R comes with those). From what I've read, it's a crappy tire.

The R15 just looked brilliant with it. I think Yamaha should have given it a 140/70 stock. Anyway, enough of OT here. We can continue this in the R15 thread.

All this applies for the v2 of course.

Recently it is happening quite a lot.

And also, when i shift from 1st to 2nd gear, i can hear the sound of the gear getting locked quite clearly (even in the crowded place, A Tok sound). But i never hear anything when i switch to other gears.

                                Is it normal?
When my Hornet was new (1-2 months), upshifting from 1st often would go to Neutral and it was really frustrating when you're speeding up after green signal...
After more running that problem was resolved.

Now I've another problem, while downshifting from 2nd to 1st, sometimes, Neutral gets stuck. Mainly while stopping at signals. So, need to turn off bike or really hard shift the gear.

                                How to resolve this now?

Yes, really... Especially when cars behind you speed up a lot. and they keep honking..

One thing really promising is CBS i applied brake at almost 75-80 and result was amazing.
Buy it for 80% city +20% highway.
In my riding experience of 2500 KM, I find it opposite.
In city riding it's not easy going. But on highways, it's really good.

                                I would say 20-30% City+rest highway...

                                Nice!
Did SVC offer you throttle? They only use Honda 10W30 (it is semi as I checked with SVC last time).

I generally ride Hornet 1-2 times a week. So in the beginning, I would have to kick 7-8 times. Then only it would start.

But, now even after 1 week, it starts with single kick!!!
