Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I think you should wait till 10k mark. It'll allow for proper engine fine tune on mineral. Synthetic doesn't allow much of engine refinement. As posted by many owners in this thread, let the long term break in happen.Originally posted by Ravii View PostShould I change to synthetic at 4000 km..

I guess small engine capacity doesn't fully utilise synthetic oil potential, that's why Honda choose mineral over synthetic for Hornet. But CBR150R gets synthetic, mostly due to race tuned engine.
PS. Since past few months mine bike isn't running much due to monsoon. So once I start long distance riding again, I'll replace with synthetic.

Yeah, I have tested both at same condition. It happens because of less friction. If I am not wrong, other fellow riders have also confirmed it.Originally posted by vaRider View PostSurprising that mineral oil helps for top speed. Are you sure buddy? Did you ride in same conditions on mineral and synthetic?

On 500km mark with Motul, once I struggled to reach 95 but later it got better with time.
However, I like the bracket of higher speed at 80-90 with Honda throttle and like the engine grunt (No roughness) and almost no vibration.------------------

That's interesting! Was it 10W30 grade oil in motul? I guess it's 10W40.Originally posted by anoopkumar0 View PostYeah, I have tested both at same condition. It happens because of less friction. If I am not wrong, other fellow riders have also confirmed it.

How's experience with Honda throttle at 100+

My dear fellow biker, please don't believe the nonsense being put out that mineral oil is bad for engine, mineral oil is not good at high speeds, mineral oil doesn't adequately lubricate, etcetera. Some clown starts a blog with his thoughts and soon people take it as gospel truth.Originally posted by Ravii View PostShould I change to synthetic at 4000 km..

You can use mineral/synthetic oil whenever you want. Most synthetic oils have a mineral base.
I've done 150+ kmph on mineral oils on a 250. No, my engine isn't screwed yet. 22000 kms of running.
Many Hayabusa owners use truck engine oil in their bikes, and they do 300+ kmph with the mineral oil. Any questions?
This whole mineral oils is bad for your engine myths started only after the synthetics came into the market. Before that, nobody actually gave rats ass about synthetic or mineral. They just filled up, geared up, and twisted the wrist.
Honda throttle is 10w30, and if you use 10w40 oils, you will have slightly lower performance at speed.

Once I did 115 for few seconds only, with leaning. I forgot if it was on Motul or Honda Throttle.
Thank you @leech for clarification.
I just happens to like on Honda Throttle because- Smoother ride in bracket of 60-80 city condition.
- Equal money spend as it last for almost double.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I don't think the hornet needs fully synthetic oil , semi or mineral will do, I have 300v motul racing oil which you could say is overkill but 4000kms done on it, it's still good for 1000-2000kms , 10w30 wears out within 2000kms for me due to my usage, I'm neither soft or hard on the throttle , 10w40 is good for 3000, well I change oil based on colour and smell , mineral oils work totally fine, I think they are better to use during the winter climates, for my next oil change I'm going back to 10w40 but gonna try shell advance due to the good reviews. The hornet is a carbureted bike and not high revving bike , fully synthetic maybe overkill for the engine, but it's your decision end of the day.Originally posted by leech View PostMy dear fellow biker, please don't believe the nonsense being put out that mineral oil is bad for engine, mineral oil is not good at high speeds, mineral oil doesn't adequately lubricate, etcetera. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Deathwing - well, you change oil based on color and smell, is it? Well, people's sensory perceptions differ vastly. And thus, have totally different "gut feeling" as regards engine oil.
Just browsing through this forum will lead you to many guys changing oil at 1000 kms, 1500 kms, 2500 kms. Some owners declare synthetic oils won't last more than 4000 kms. Do they say this after testing it in a lab? Oh no sir, it's 'gut feeling'. 'Color and smell'. Why do we get so much variation? Simple. No two persons have the exact same sensory perceptions and olfactory sensitivity.
In the absence of evidence, people make their own assumptions. The same Honda throttle I've used for 6000 kms without a problem, and I ride rough. But another rider 'feels' that by 1500 kms, all the lubricating properties of Throttle vanish, and he has to change it.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
It's a sort of preventive measure, changing oil every 3000kms, smell and viscosity is what I follow plus how my engine feels, my CBR has done 4000 on motul 300v and I can say it's butter roti smooth at the moment 😂, well you can say it's overkill , I changed it in may before my road trip to kodai , I am considering should I stick to it or change to 10w40 shell, heard only good things , I apologize this is very off topic , but how is the gearbox issues with the hornet? Heard a few complaints on power not being there as well.Originally posted by leech View PostDeathwing - well, you change oil based on color and smell, is it? Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hi, I am new to xBhp, i own a Honda Hornet 160R CBS version purchased on March 2017.
I had done my first service at 950 kms.
During first service the service centre (Bangalore) guy said that he filled honda fully synthetic oil and billed me 750rs.
Had done my Second service at 4200 kms one week back.
In second service the service centre (at my native place ) guy said that he had filled mineral oil and billed me 340 rs.
My query is
1. Do i need to change the Oil to Fully Synthetic or should i continue with mineral oil?
2. Is there any thing serious problem if i stay with mineral oil after second service?
3. If I should change to FS please suggest me a good Engine oil.
Please guys Suggest me..

There is no such rule having FS oil. if you look into service book recommended oil is 10w30 grade either mineral or FS doesn't matter.
To your query:
1. Your wish, however most of bikes suggest to keep on running Mineral oil for 5k ODO to brush up engine well.
2. Most of bikes in 150cc segment runs on mineral oil as recommended.
3. As ASC suggested Honda throttle FS is good enough.
Also, as per ASC, if you use any other brand oil you warranty will void.------------------
