Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Cause is either poor oil supply to chain (blocked passages in head/valve cover) or manufacturing defect in the chain itself. The youtuber did not say what ultimately was the diagnosis and whether Honda replaced it under warranty. We need to ask him. Another probable cause is the timing chain "drive gear" on the crankshaft might have got loose if that's possible - it is usually press fitted on the crankshaft by a machine. Do you remember that Honda guys removed the magneto cover and checked for some gear in your Hornet's first service? Your vehicle was cleared and it seems Honda is aware of this problem.Originally posted by #bpk View PostWhat's the cause of it, can you please elaborate.
If they removed the magneto, they checked this on your vehicle. If they did not remove magneto, they might have simply inspected the starter reduction gears.
80 kmph in top gear is nothing for Hornet and other 150-160cc bikes. As long as you keep it under redline, nothing will snap. Yes, of course, higher the speed, higher the wear-and-tear, but it won't break.Originally posted by #bpk View PostRecently i have also done 80kmph in top gear. My odo is 1400 kilometers, am i harming my motorcycle. (Will it affect my timing chain ).

What man.. Look at a video Hornet guy with pillion speed run with duke 200 and wining it. This video looked too muchOriginally posted by #bpk View PostThanks for the reply but he was accompanied by a gixxer sf in front, and gixxer is doing around 100 kmph with a pillion, i think gixxer is far superior in terms of high speed runs than hornet
I did 95Kmph on Hyd-bangalore highway for 2-3 hours without any heat-up. I can't ask more from 160cc bike. [MENTION=57676]wind[/MENTION]turf99 can validate it as he did HYD-Mysore recently.

Thanks sir for the reply. Honda svc opened the gear side cover and mesured gear teeth with some tools and told me that everything is ok . I don't know much about it.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostCause is either poor oil supply to chain (blocked passages in head/valve cover) or manufacturing defect in the chain itself. Thanks anoop ji , for me 70 to 80 kmph is enough [emoji16] . As long as bike is happy i am happy. I love my motorcycle [emoji7][emoji7]Originally posted by anoopkumar0 View PostWhat man.. Look at a video Hornet guy with pillion speed run with duke 200 and wining it. This video looked too much

It's looks like he already abused the engine too much the grunt noise is too harsh like broken bamboo.------------------

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
And both of these speeds are appropriate without the Hornet having to sweat a bit. If you guys want to play it safe, ride within the rev rpm limit of 6500-7000 and up-shift at about 5000-5500 rpm and don't stress the bike until you're done with the servicing and you feel that the engine has eased up a bit for high speed pushing.Originally posted by #bpk View PostThanks . What's the comfortable touring speed for hornet . I did 70 to 80 without much stress.
Now, the reason Gixxer is able to cruise at about 100 kmph without hassle as compared to Hornet because:
1. It's more torquey throughout the rev range and it's not all about pickup.
2. Gixxer owners usually ride within a RPM limit which the SVC guys adjust using the console and the RPM limit is changed as the bike clocks more distance and the engine starts getting tuned up with long runs. I have a friend whose Gixxer had a very low RPM limit of about 5500 in total before servicing. Reason? The SVC guys told him that the bike needed to maintain uniform torque, not a high speed till it ran the required distance on ODO. As his bike unfurled at 5th servicing, they showed him how to set the RPM shift limit by himself. He has it currently set at 9500 and believe me, it can easily clock 90kmph+ without hassle. Why? Because the engine limits were kept in check during initial days. Setting a small RPM limit means more fuel economy and shorter gear ratios on Gixxer. You gotta shift early. Not sure how it works on Hornet but that's the case for Gixxer.
It may just be another way of saying that nothing beats the Gixxer engine in sense of true blue performance. This has been established since 2014 and believe me, each and every comparo of the sub 160cc category bike (exception of the Apache 1604v) does mention Gixxer's superior performance over the old RTR 160, FZ/FZ-S, Hornet and Xtreme. Hornet here is meant for more punchy and refined use, less harsh use. Sad truth but that's what it is.
^^ All the above some facts I've established from personal experience and may not always reflect everyone's opinion.
P.S: Give it some time guys, by the time your Hornet has clocked 10K KMS on ODO, you'll be able to easily clock over 90KMPH without any difficulty. Till them, just take care of it and ride it smoothly like the Gixxer owners do.[My Motorcycles]

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Wanted to share my experience with Motul chain cleaner and lubricant.
So this is my first bike, and I donot have much idea about DIY on the engine/bike and such which comes with experience and love for the bike.
Nonetheless here is what happened,
I could hear chain noise while riding the bike and I wondered if it was normal..it is of course normal but I came to know about the amount of noise that should be normal only after actually using Motul cleaner and lube on it [emoji28] man, my chain was so dry, i noticed only after applying the lube, now I feel my chain has become so smooth, can't hear a thing from it, motul worked miracle.
Probably many of you have already experienced this and it is normal for them, but it made me so happy that I couldn't stop myself from posting here.[emoji28]
