Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I own 2018 hornet, and there's no noise from chain . Its smooth and good [emoji106]Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostDon't expect anything significant from this drum for speeds >30 kmph. How much kms on the odometer? Can you photo the brake wear indicator?
Firstly, see if the shoes are worn out. If yes, replace the shoes and the springs - while this is being done, the lining has to be cleaned to remove dirt and greasy material. The cam itself should be removed, cleaned and greased otherwise the brake will be "sticky". If the shoes are not worn, clean the lining, lube the cam and adjust the brake - that's it. If the brake rod is bent, or if it's threads have gone, then replace it along with the adjusting nut. The rod won't be costly - should be 50-100/- INR. Always maintain necessary free play otherwise the lining which is supposed to last for atleast 1 lakh kms or more will be eaten up and the only option in that case will be to replace the alloy.
2018, definitely. It has endless chain - if possible, ask them to re-grease swingarm bearings while doing the chain.
It is not exactly low maintenance - one needs to periodically clean, lube and adjust. The frequency of "adjusting" is lesser than a conventional chain, in other words, it doesn't wear out easily. Cleaning and lubing frequency depends on your use - rain, dust, village/suburban roads -> chain gets dirty/loses lube sooner.
No, gear ratio is same.
I leave that to owners but from what I have observed from the high perched window seat of a public transport bus, *all* open chains are noisy.

Service guys will always try to milk you. I don't think you need to change the rod unless thread worn out. Ask what is the problem and why they are changing it.Originally posted by FreeSpiritedBiker View Posthave it.
The ASC guy told me (without inspecting the brake) that the brake rod also needs to be changed.
So please tell me, do I really need to change the complete brake rod?
If threading required it can be done outside.
Better speak to service guys ask for senior mechanic. if that is possible to change to newer chain version. I believe there is change in number of teethes.Originally posted by FreeSpiritedBiker View PostAlso, I need to change my bike's chain and sprocket.
Should I go with 2018 model's sprocket kit?
What are the benefits, apart from the low maintenance of chain?
Will it increase the pickup of the bike?
Will it solve the chain noise problem?
Pick up: The bike has the power but pick up depends on right gear shifting. Unfortunately hornet has very low window for right shift to gain perfect speed. You need to find the sweet spot. Initially you will bike is stressed but that fine. No issue with it. I ride in traffic everyday ranging from 20-75. For starter give 3rd gear more window till 6k before upshift.
Chain Noise: Keep it clean and lubed. Open chain is Achilles heal. Observe other biker with badly maintained naked chain. They also rattle the same way.------------------

Thanks a lot for your in-depth reply.
12,000 KMs on ODO
Those idiots at ASC had made me install a new brake pad last month only when I went there to tell them about the brake problem.
But I later came to know, that the problem was with brake adjusting nut only.
And no, nothing happened to the brake rod. I have confirmed this from a local mechanic.
Ok, I will install 2018 chain and sprocket then.
Thanks again for your reply.

I've confirmed again from a local mechanic, and there is nothing wrong with the brake rod.
I spoke to the senior mechanic only.
I do maintain my bike's chain by properly cleaning and lubing it with Motul.
But still, it used to get loose after every 200 KMs
I've decided to install2018 model's chain now.
Be happy and a reason will come along !

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I am also disappointed with hornet initially , but believe me this is superb bike, most of the hornet users face issue only because of unskilled ASC, hornet need precision in settings, once set it's joy ride , regarding comfort, with out driving experience much i drove my hornet for 450km in single day without any body pains,Originally posted by Rajdip Saha View PostDidn't you test ride the gixxer and fz before zeroing down on the hornet? Both the gixxer and fz are tuned for low and mid range. You may think the fz is low on power & torque but its just on paper ride it once and you will see its equally good as the gixxer in the city and if not better than the hornet in the city & its having the least issues among the three bikes. Hornet is good for top end but at the end of the day eyeryone rides in the low and the mid range maximum of the time. Usable power is all that matters in real life.
Talk to service center manager find skilled ASC, give some money to that guy he will take care of it otherwise they will just changing oil and do water wash for service.

Just if the power delivery in Low RPM is better enough, HORNET may be the best 150/160 segment bike in all aspects beating all its existing competitors...Originally posted by raaz321 View PostI am also disappointed with hornet initially , but believe me this is superb bike, most of the hornet users face issue only because of unskilled ASC, hornet need precision in settings, once set it's joy ride , regarding comfort, with out driving experience much i drove my hornet for 450km in single day without any body pains,

Not to mention an engine kill switch. That's a big deal breaker.Originally posted by gowthamh View PostJust if the power delivery in Low RPM is better enough, HORNET may be the best 150/160 segment bike in all aspects beating all its existing competitors...
Edit: I brought my friend's Hornet from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack and it will stay with me for a couple of days. The massive traffic density here makes it increasingly difficult to ride the bike with the sluggish low and most of the time I've to pull the bike from 5kmph in 3rd gear and half clutch in dense traffic, due to the laggy behavior in lower gears. Is there anything I can do to improve the low end on the bike? It was alright to ride it in BBSR, but in a city as crowded as my native place, it becomes next to impossible to ride in 1st or 2nd gear.Last edited by Bismaya; 09-10-2018, 07:36 PM.[My Motorcycles]

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Thing is... Even in hornet ,we can able to overtake fz, gixxer, pulsar 150cc bikes in low RPMs... But the rider has to understand the precise way to handle the hornet, understand its engine refinement..
Am able to overtake fz,gixxer, pulsar most of the times in low RPMs (In traffic signals below 50kmph)
Rider has to get familiar with hornet handling, that's the point...
In mid range, top range no need to tell, hornet have its better refinement for mid, top ranges...Last edited by gowthamh; 09-12-2018, 12:23 PM.

Ok thanks ,so New India Assurance is kind of pay first then refund process, ok some insurance people will just do the repair directly we no need to pay only need to pay for deductables, like process. y the way where are you from ?Originally posted by mac4rfree View PostI intimated the New India Assurance via call and next day went to office and filled up form.
