Engine heating very quickly in a new Apache 200 bike
Hi Awesome Bikers,
i have purchased a Apache RTR 200 4v (carb) version on Jan 14th 2017 and since a couple of days i can feel that the engine is heating a lot . i can feel it in my legs , Is this normal for a new bike ?
I have driven 250 kms now since Jan 14th and this issue started at 200 kms , is there a risk for the engine , do i need to check with the service center already . Also i feel that the acceleration has been decreased . i am maintaining only 50 - 55 speed even in empty roads . I live in bangalore so the most of the time i am always in traffic .
Also what should be the idle RPM for this bike . i have it at 2k then the showroom person decreased it to 1.4k
Please help with your suggestions
Thanks

Its normal for a new bike to heat up and idle RPM should ideally hover under 1500 RPM. Get an oil change done (even before 1st service) now to flush out the metal particles.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
To answer your question, it's quite tough to climb on to the pillion seat for its height especially for ladies who are aged and short and to sit one sided on a split seat setup, it can be a daunting thing to do. I wouldn't suggest one sided seating but on normal condition it's very comfortable with both legs on either side, I have taken my wife for long rides up to 1 1/2 hours continuous and she hasn't complained.Originally posted by Gowtham Msd View PostAny answers?!

Is little high than RTR and less than CBR. My mom is 5'2, she had problem while getting on rtr180, so it depends on height of the pillion too. Comfort, its ok for short distancesFare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Hey Guys,
Done with the first service of my RTR. I have a few queries.
1. The SVC guy has poured "TVS Tru4 Premium 10w30" Engine oil which is priced at Rs. 255/litre. Can someone please confirm if this is Mineral oil or Semi Synthetic.
Gone through the link https://www.tvsmotor.com/ib/tvs-tru4oil.aspx but it is not clear. Also, Is RTR supposed to run on Mineral or Semi Synthetic oil.
I don't have the SVC manual as the dealer has not provided me the same even after 30 days of purchase.
2. The Grease Monkey has applied Grease on the chain instead of Chain Lube. Is this something to worry about?
3. SVC has charged Rs. 144 for "Supplement oil". Is anyone aware of this oil?
Post service, the bike is dragging and the engine is not revving much freely in gears. Also the sound of exhaust has changed to a lot more bassier, as if engine is taking some load. Attaching the screenshot of the service bill.
Thanks.

i think there is some problem. The engine used by them doesn't seems to be Synthetic oil it is mineral oil. RTR 200 requires synthetic oil and TVS synthetic oil cost is about 600-650 for 1.2litres. I think they didn't had the synthetic oil so they have used mineral oil with the engine oil supplement as an alternate. I am afraid this is not the proper way to deal with the new bike as it is in the runnin-in process. For an older bike this might work but not for new bike. If your bike is feeling the stress then i think you should change the engine oil to a proper synthetic oil from TVS. if they dont have then approach some other SVC and get it done. And from next time change the SVC at once as these people will ruin the bike.
And get it changed in front of you if you can, to check if they are changing it with a proper oil.Last edited by rakowli; 01-28-2017, 12:32 PM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
1. Yes it is Mineral oil. RTR would run just fine on any oil, viz., Mineral, semi synthetic, full synthetic. Just make sure to use recommended grade oil of any brand which in RTRs case is 10w30.Originally posted by Nitish Singla View PostHey Guys,

2. You have been charged 90 bucks for just the greasing, whereas they must have done with aerosol chain lube spray. Greasing an open chain attracts more dirt and makes the chain dry lot quicker, which would eventually begin to emanate too much noise while riding. May be can go to SVC and demand them to spray the chain with aerosol lube for the amount they have charged you on the 1st service.
3. That must be the engine oil additive, used to compensate for not using a synthetic oil. This is nothing to worry about though.
Bike feeling draggy is most likely due to a more tight chain and not because of a mineral oil poured, just to clear the confusion about the oil causing this or not. Since mineral oil is used, I would recommend you to replace this oil at the next 2K kms from the previous service and not wait till next service.
Exhaust sounding bassier is due to new engine oil and break-in in progress, common on all louder sounding bikes like RTRs.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Hi guys I have recently booked an rtr200 for my daily commutes it's on its way they said and the service is so lame..
Are you facing any niggles after the first service??
Just when I finish paying those guys Fz250 launched.. I am not having second thoughts but the people at the dealership and service appear very lethargic compared to other brands.. lol I am sort of concerned about that..
Also they say that they don't let us use motul I was like wth. Are they saying the same crap to you guys as well?Last edited by paradoxr9019; 01-28-2017, 11:23 PM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Hi as you guys said i too faced same problem after first service immediately , and bike nice much more , i feel like am rushing my bike even at 70 to 90 , how is your bike ride now a days , because I completed. 3000 kms and even 2 service is over . But I lost new bike feel in 1 service itselfOriginally posted by raman5864 View PostHi Vivek,
Regarding your 1st point, did you happen to sort out that whining noise you mentioned?
Had my first service done recently, and even I hear the same noise, especially when I let it engine brake after reaching 70 kmph or above. The noise is only when I decelerate after crossing 70 kmph, not below.
I was under impression it's from engine, like some friction noise, not from gearbox.
Also, I experience some vibs at 75-80 kmph, though didn't expect that going by the reviews. Is it common with everyone, or I might be stressing the engine, given it's only 950 km on ODO? Btw, I crossed speeds of 60-65 after first service only at very few instances. Mostly try to be below that.
